greendayinsomniac Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Here's an unpopular opinion, I think that Green Day is one of the greatest bands of all time.

munns6691 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I do like the lines: "I'm catching the train I'm crashing the car Packing for daylight Shooting for the stars" Quite a bit actually
Mar Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Ugh, Little Boy Named Train. It reminds me of this gif. The melody starts off really messy and just kind of flailing all over the place. And then when Billie's voice comes in with the "Where did you come from, where have you been?" he sounds so immature and unnecessarily snarly (it's like the way he sounds in the beginning of 86, with the untrustworthy question of "What brings you around?" but doesn't actually set up an interesting story), and it just deflates the whole song for good, like the raptor's tail. It's just a lifeless song, kind of like a stock rock 'n' roll song. Yknow, we can't afford to buy a real song to put in our movie, so let's use this rockin' tune. God, it's so disappointing.
Hermione Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I never leave this thread*….the other areas of GDC scare me Haha you should though, Green Day areas aren't scary! I enjoy reading your posts about their songs/music in here and they'd be welcome in other threads too.
Mykee Mexx Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 This thread is so funny... just like the one about the funny/interesting Green Day live moments. Just laughed my ass off because of the raptor´s fall and tail... can´t help, laughed till I cried... You´re all so fucking awesome. You alone are worth that GD exists.

That sentence describes it perfectly. But I kind of just liked your post because of that gif. You know what's a hot mess? Horseshoes and Handgrenades. I just really hate it when Billie attempts any sort of screaming. Honestly the only part of the song I can handle is the chorus, the rest of it just kills me. "I'm not fuckin' around!" haha who are you kidding, Billie? No, no, no! Although I agree about the screaming, I love the rest of the song! It's one of the few highlights of 21CB for me. It's so cheesy it's great.

Honestly the only part of the song I can handle is the chorus, the rest of it just kills me. "I'm not fuckin' around!" haha who are you kidding, Billie? YES!!! It really is a terrible song! Granted, I haven't listened to it in about two years, mind you...
Hermione Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 People don't like Horseshoes and Handgrenades now?! What has the world come to?
Mykee Mexx Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I love Horseshoes and Handgranades... and Know your enemy and Holiday... love the whole AI and 21C shit... I must be a real fan... or simply a desoriented resident from the Valley of the Mentally Disturbed.
November's Storms Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I just really, really dislike the whole Billie shouting/screaming thing. It doesn't suit his voice at all. Instrumentally, I actually really like it, but just the vocals kill it for me. I like how it's used so rarely then when he does scream it has more effect on me. Think what you like about Know Your Enemy but the screaming "gimme gimme revolution" shook me the first time I heard it.
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I love Billie screaming but Horseshoes and Hand Grenades just feels like filler, don't get me wrong I like it but its just ok.

I listen to it for the chorus alone since: "Maybe I'm the runner up But the first one to lose the race Almost only really counts in Horseshoes and handgrenades" Is some of his best lyrical work, i just wish the rest of the song was on par
Jax Teller Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I like the vocals in Horseshoes and Handgrenades. They are angry and match the song perfectly.
Guest Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I never even knew what the lyrics to the chorus of H&H were until now.
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Wait, wait, don't tell me... You like "Take Back," too it's alright for a laugh every now and then
alexandra_1039 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 lol based on what ive read it seems like i have the unpopular opinion in liking all the green day albums?! anyway: -Know Your Enemy is one of my favorite songs. the chorus is a bit too repetitive but the lyrical content is great. -21 guns is a good song. -the only complaint i have about trilogy is how smooth it sounds. it would be 100000x better with a more distorted, rough sound. other than that, i quite enjoy the songs. -I dont see the reason everyone bashes on Oh Love so much. alright theres my opinions.
Mykee Mexx Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Except your statement for Oh Love - I agree.
greendayinsomniac Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Going through this thread makes me think like I like Green Day way too much. I thought I was in the company of fellow Green Day lovers, but this thread makes me wonder sometimes. Although it does get pretty interesting.

Remember this thread is specifically for unpopular Green Day opinions. There's plenty of Green Day love in other threads (and even quite a lot here considering the subject!).

Hermione Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Ya I guess that's true. Maybe I just love Green Day a little too much I do know what you mean so maybe me too . There's always the positive unpopular opinions like "I think this song is really underrated" and stuff too though, plus it's fun to disagree with the negative ones
Z J Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 All these new people must be shocked/appalled to see all of the shit we talk about green day And the chorus of H and H is great. Melodic with a great hook and harmony. Verses are nothing special. No notable instrumentation either
