Unpopular Green Day Opinions

- I prefer 21st Century Breakdown to American Idiot

- I'd rather listen to Awesome As Fuck instead of most studio recordings

- The best album in the trilogy was ¡Dos! and Nightlife is an awesome song

- Almost half of ¡Uno! is shit

- Good Ridddance shouldn't be the closer for their shows anymore, instead start playing The Forgotten but then, suddenly start playing Platypus (I Hate You) and trash the stage

-Yes. Finally, someone who shares the same opinion.

-Sometimes

-Leave in Flames

-Most of it is shit

-What about Good Riddance then Platypus and trash the stage?

- Sorta agree with you

- Depends on the song, like 21 Guns or Christie Road

- Get the fuck outta this forum.

- Not really...

- Wait... what?

21st century breakdown is the most ambitious and musically complex album Green Day has ever done. It's also one of my favourites.

Definitely :)

You know that vague sense of pity that you get but can't quite place? I'm getting that right now.

I think I feel it too. Possibly towards the people who like When It's time and the Forgotten.

Can't argue with that. Its only real weaknesses are inconsistency in terms of quality, the fact that it's too long and rambling, doesn't seem to have a clear vision, and I think Billie bit off more than he could chew lyrically. I honestly think that writing a narrative from the perspective of two fictional characters and employing it as a metaphor for American politics was a little more than he could handle. What really turned me off the album at first was the fact I spent far too long looking for a story that just isn't there.

i just look at it as an album with songs that speak to each other, but dont necessarily have a narrative. think it should have probably been made into a smaller album though, I mean were Christians inferno and Horseshoes and hand grenades really needed?

I like Horsehoes and Handgrenades! Along with Peacemaker, but otherwise the rest of the album is just ok.

Yeah, it's far, far too long. Typical Green Day really, it would be a much better album if it was cut down to the best 10-12 songs. See also: Nimrod and the Trilogy.

Disagree. The whole thing with Nimrod. and 21CB is that their sprawling nature is essential to making them what they are. Now, the Trilogy I totally agree on.

I still don't get why people have so much hate for The Forgotten. Yeah it's kind of boring, but it's no worse than When It's Time.

Oh Gosh, no. Tell me when it's time to say that you are wrong. ;)

I have no idea what The Forgotten really means, if it does mean anything at all, it's like a bunch of clichés and words that sound meaningful but when actually look at it mean nothing.

Totally agree.

If we talk about meaning of the songs. That's why i love their older stuff. Each older song has a really good meaning, that you can easily understand, and adopt. About relationships, love, death, alcohol, drugs, etc. (that's why i'm in love with when it's time...the best love song i have heard.)

But their new stuff(there are many exceptions, ofc.), like the trilogy is just full of songs like The Forgotten. Bult up by lines that sounds great and have meaning, but when you look at the whole song, it's just about nothing really.

well no I do like it, it's good if you're angry haha but I think it's a pretty weak song compared to the rest

I see what you're getting at, and I would agree, but then American Idiot complicates things. That's significantly longer than Nimrod but not 'sprawling' due to its consistency. Similarly, it's long enough to be epic and an experience to listen to all the way through. 21st Century Breakdown wouldn't suffer from being 20 minutes shorter, if it would mean quality over quantity. An album being long due to the inclusion of poor songs makes for a weaker album.

Wait who doesn't like Nimrod

I hope I didn't give that impression! I love Nimrod, it has some of their all time best songs on it. But the mix of styles and its length don't make for a coherent album, and as such I prefer to take it a couple of songs at a time rather than listen to it all the way through.

I get the feeling Green Day is having a bit of an identity crisis, and have been since American Idiot. 21st Century Breakdown was essentially an attempt to recapture everything about American Idiot and Uno/Dos/Tre was essentially the band going "what the fuck do we do now? a little bit of everything?". For the next album I would like to see a stripped down 14 song record with songs in the vein of Letterbomb and Murder City. Really rockin, inspired material that grabs your attention.

Gotta agree with this. They need to refocus and produce something organic. I don't even particularly care what it sounds like, as long as it's well thought out, focused and has decent quality control.
