Unpopular Green Day Opinions

The only music video of theirs I've ever truly thought was great was "Hitchin' a Ride". "Basket Case" and "Brain Stew/Jaded" aren't bad, though.

Hitchin' A Ride is a fantastic music video. I like When I Come Around, too. Absolutely hate Brain Stew, though. I think their consistency when it comes to videos is really bad, though. I love the videos from the American Idiot singles, apart from WMUWSE, although I do love the podium scenes. But then, Know Your Enemy is probably the worst music video ever.

"Jesus of Suburbia" I don't like. It's unintentionally cheesy a few too many times.

I actually forgot about that one! That was silly of me... But yeah, that doesn't really do anything for me. I don't like the styling of it and it doesn't really seem to fit the tone of the other videos. Which is a shame, it's one of the best songs they've ever done but the video really hurts the solid concept that runs through everything else associated with the album.

For the most part, Green Day makes shitty music videos, especially in the last decade, but also in general. There are a few excellent exceptions, but when I watch Foo Fighters videos or really so many other bands and artists, I can't help but be disappointed. Then again, Dave Grohl is hilarious. I just feel like we're missing out on a whole world of Tre-in-drag type humor that we saw briefly in Holiday.

I quite liked american idiot, even though it is just basically a performance video, but other than that, the last good video they did was nice guys finish last, and the last good one before that was walking contradiction.

Same. The first time I listened to it I thought my CD was broken or something cause it went on for so long. :P and I've never really been a huge fan of it since.

For the longest time I wasn't even aware Panic Song had words

I always forget about the Walking Contradiction video. It's weird because it's pretty good and cheesily shite at the same time. Like "Yeah, that's right. I'm walking. And contradicting myself. Yeah."

I lovelovelove AAF's setlist, but I can't deal with the awful pitch correction on several of the songs. Not that we should have that argument again. :P

Shhh.gif

There's no pitch correction, Billie just can't sing anymore.

Oh wait I disagree with the trilogy part, I love the trilogy!

I thought the vocal on AAF was great, certainly his best. Reading was fine vocally, and with Foreverly coming out, just don't know how you could actually believe that.

If you're kidding, then I apologize, and I blame it on my Americanism.

Unless someone went on the fan videos on youtube and pitch corrected everything……nothing was done to the vocals for the CD.

Not sure if this counts as an "unpopular opinion" as such, but I've never really gotten the whole Static Age is just Church on Sunday again thing. I mean sure, the choruses do sound similar. But apart from that, there are no similarities that I can hear. Unless people were just referring to the chorus with that sort of comment?

Maybe a similar melody coming out of the chorus, beyond that the production is just so different and Static Age is so anthemic and Church On Sunday far more stripped down, they aren't that similar, to me.

I love both songs, but Church On Sunday is one of my favorite BJA vocals, Static Age is very good, but it doesn't have the edge it or lyrical wit that would enhance it in my eyes. I LOVE the "screaming hallelujahhhh" part, great inflection

I was joking, but I don't think it was remotely clear, sorry :P

That said, AAF is brilliant in terms of attitude, but it is very off-pitch in places. He more than makes up for it in delivery though.

I think Holiday is the best music video they've ever made.

really? you pretty much get blinded with CGI

I thought most of those versions are his best vocals of the respective songs like 21 Guns, Good Riddance, J.A.R., Going to Pasalaqcua, EJN, and Viva La Gloria. I thought 21CB his mic was too low volume wise I can't hear him for part of it. I can't decide if that weird thing he does at the end of "heroes and cons" is awesome or cringe-worthy, Holiday was pitchy I thought compared to the video version. Idk why they chose that version, I'm positive they must have recorded a better Holiday on that tour

Oh and Christie Road is spot on

Music videos that I think pretty much suck balls: Time of Your Life (it just looks amateurish and cheesy), WMUWSE (for obvious reasons, though the band parts are fine), WICA (I just dont get it)

There are several I think are good or really good, but the only remarkable one is the 21st Century Breakdown video.

I do agree with most of that. Going To Pasalacqua is absolutely fantastic. I think the problem with Breakdown is that they opened with for the whole tour - I doubt there'll be a version in existence where the levels weren't a bit off. I love how he goes high at the end, I don't think it's cheesy. Yeah, Holiday is surprisingly off, as is Letterbomb.

Is it just me or is pop-punk just the most repetitive fucking genre ever? I don't even consider GD to be a part of that genre anymore. Honestly every song I hear in that category from new bands sounds like a Simple Plan rip off. And Simple plan fucking sucks too. GD really started this genre but there has yet to be a band that has been able to create more than a handful of great songs. That's what sets GD apart. These bands rely on melody and they forget that GD's success wasn't on melody alone but in harmonies and bass lines. Modern pop-punk has not heard of bass. At least from what I hear. Sad

THIS! THIS! THIIIS!!!

The high note caught me off guard at first, I thought my cd squeaked or something. But it has a charm to it, its haunting in a way. I figure they must have recorded nearly the whole damn tour so idk why they chose that version of Holiday. And Letterbomb almost always seems to be pitchy (with a few exceptions).

The AAF version of Going to Pasalacqua is what made me fall in love with the song. I first heard it at the show I attended last year, and it was stuck in my head for days. When I found the name of it, I listened to the 39/Smooth version and found it to be a little strained at times (I've grown to enjoy that version mildly). When I saw it was on the live album I figured it would be a huge step up, it was. His voice sounds a bit horse and it makes it all the better for me

I only ever listen to the AAF version of Pasalacqua now. It's so much more ballsy and powerful. Tre drumming makes a huge difference, Billie's voice is better, it's faster, and the overall production is far better. It's my favourite song on 39/Smooth but the studio version just doesn't stand up at all in comparison.

I didn't properly get into GDA/Green Day/Youtube properly until 2006 and so that was when I saw all of their music videos - most of which I haven't watched since then - so I think that explains a lot!

Y'all need the Foot In Mouth version.

Agree. I really love this EP and Bowling Bowling Bowling Parking Parking.
