Unpopular Green Day Opinions

To me, if a song sounds good in isolation, what's the problem? I don't listen to Scattered and think "Oh, it's just a 2000 LYA ripoff, therefore it sucks and I refuse to listen to it." Both are good songs, and when I'm listening to a song it doesn't really matter to me what other songs the band have written. The problem with the Trilogy isn't that it's unoriginal, it's just that most of the songs are plain bad. If I cared about originality I'd never have got into Green Day in the first place.

Essentially, if I like ice cream, I can enjoy gelato too!

Anyone who thinks Green Day are too unoriginal and repetitive should check The Donnas out.

the donnas? what is this, 2003?

Green Day? What is this, 2004?

Excuse me, it's 2013, going on 2014. Where have you two been the past decade?

Listening to The Donnas.

I don't actually know where I've been. My life is split into two sections; pre-GDC and post-GDC. Everything before August 20th this year is a blur.

Although frankly if you get Scattered and 2000 LYA mixed up you can't have ears :P

This.

What about Warning? Which is pretty much a direct copy of Picture Book by The Kinks

I've never heard the song by he Kinks, I'll give it a listen.

I like Warning on its own, even if I hear similarities between the songs I probably won't change my opinion of it.

Except for a solid chunk of the Trilogy :P

I never really got the whole Wonderwall thing, different strum pattern, different mood of song, not really the same at all. But they repackage songs all the time. Jaded is the same exact chord progression as Paper Lanterns, The end of Christie Road is the same as 16. The intros to 2,000 LYA and Scattered are so similar my brother often gets confused while jamming them.

There's a lot more but you get the idea.

I like to pretend the trilogy isn't a part of their catalog.

Warning isn't a song, it's just a straight run up and down the A major scale. A warmup exercise at best, reinforced by the fact Billie sounds like he can't be arsed singing.

why not

Because I don't want my username to sound like a Teddybears song.

Hm. I like some of the lyrics quite a bit, and the melody on certain parts.

Better homes and safety-sealed communities

Did you remember to pay the utility?

Caution: Police line, you better not cross.

Is it the cop, or am I the one thats really dangerous?

I really like the way he makes the "safety sealed communities" and "pay the utility" line endings very melodic

Also like the cop line quite a bit. And this line:

Get your philosophy from a bumper sticker

and

question everything.

Or shut up and be a victim of authority

It is probably on the bottom half in best songs of that album (I think it is a very strong album) but it is solid, to me

I agree the lyrics are fantastic, definitely among their best. I like the use of backing vocals, but musically it doesn't do much for me.
