Guest Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 It's persnickety in America, which is silly. But there we go, undeniable evidence that Ceadog's just trying to be one of the cool kids This is one of the rare occasions where the Americanisation of a word actually made it more complicated.
Spike Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 This is one of the rare occasions where the Americanisation of a word actually made it more complicated. Ha, yeah. I could care less about the whole issue.
Guest Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Ha, yeah. I could care less about the whole issue. You have no idea how much rage this post filled me with.
Spike Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 You have no idea how much rage this post filled me with. Me too, it made me feel ill just typing it. Totally worth it though.
The Disappearing Boy Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 That one just takes the proverbial biscuit Same thing, actually I had a particular scene from Jonathan Creek in mind: (I'm paraphrasing this a bit) Maddy: Jonathan, your pedanticism is really beginning to annoy me now. But anyway ... [dialogue] Jonathan: Yes good idea.... By the way the word's actually pedantry.
Z J Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 This version really impresses me because of the obvious lack of studio trickery. He's so good I can't even... That is very very good. But I'd argue this one is better: The quality is obviously lower but his voice is just incredible. This whole Shoreline show is incredible
DookieLukie Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I agree. Billie's definitely holding back on the vocals, and the guitars are so over compressed the expression is totally crushed out of them. The live version from Last Night On Earth is a lot better in that respect, it sounds like they're really going for it for the most part. Last of the American Girls, not Last Night on Earth
Spike Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Last of the American Girls, not Last Night on Earth I know what song we're on about. I said the version from Last Night On Earth, as in the live EP.
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 once again idk how popular this is, but for some reason i think they should make another green day rock band..cause apparently in the first one they forgot ones i like
munns6691 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 And remove the only lighthearted part of AI? No thanks. Hmm, I'd say there is a difference between light-hearted and sort of just the nonsense that rock and roll girlfriend is. What is it even saying? Does it have anything to do with the song? I do like trumpets though

Every line of every song doesn't have to be deadly serious. If you're serious all the time you end up depressing as fuck.

It's pretty much Billie's trademark to inject the odd burst of humour into serious songs, too. It's part of what makes him such a great lyricist.
Asa. Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 once again idk how popular this is, but for some reason i think they should make another green day rock band..cause apparently in the first one they forgot ones i like there's no money in making a second one. Sure I would buy it, but in the end it wouldn't sell enough to make it worth it.

Asa. Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Plus I might add that the Rock Band series in general has been discontinued for almost a year now.
Spike Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 OK, here we go. The studio version of Basket Case is fucking boring. I was aware of that song for three years before I knew anything else about Green Day, and in that time I only listened to it all the way through once, the first time I heard it.

It's very overrated, not gonna deny that. It's still a lot more creative than most early GD though.

True, but it's one of my most skipped on Dookie now. Maybe partly due to being so overplayed, but it's such a weird song. The false start where Mike and Tre come in for a couple of bars has always annoyed me, it doesn't make sense. The vocal harmonies and drumming are fantastic, but beyond that, meh.

Yeah they've never really done anything like it since. I've rarely listened to it for years, can't see that changing. Not gonna lie though, when the cover band at my graduation party opened with it, I lost my shit.

Not gonna lie though, when the cover band at my graduation party opened with it, I lost my shit. Well yeah, it's undeniably awesome live, and it's good to hear covers of it. It's just specifically the version on Dookie I'm bored with.

Guest Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Most Green Day bores me these days. It's not a problem specific to Basket Case
Spike Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Most Green Day bores me these days. It's not a problem specific to Basket Case I know you're into the technicality of Biffy but Basket Case has like FIVE chords, what more do you want?
Guest Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I know you're into the technicality of Biffy but Basket Case has like FIVE chords, what more do you want? 6 chords It's not even the technicality thing anymore, it's just that GD basically do the same thing all the time, and I've gotten a bit sick of it. Listening to a band pretty much everyday for 10 years will do that, y'know?
