Shes_A_Rebel13 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 This is so true and it really is sad. Back when I felt that way it wasn't a thing, and the real stories were actually really beautiful and interesting (believe it or not). You can't tell them apart anymore though because it's just trendy now. Not cool. I know. I also used to self-harm and I hate it now because it's this trendy thing and ( warning I'm about to make a hipster comment xP) I did that before I knew anybody else did. Now I just feel as if my past just classifies me as an attention-seeker, y'know? ugh.
ZSebs Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 99 Revolutions annoys me. It could have been so much better. It's a decent rallying song, good verses, a catchy riff, but let down by such a lazy chorus, an an unimaginative bridge. Take that back!!!! i love that song, ive listened to it so many times that I will never forget 99 revolutions, ever
Hermione Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 That is the best thing ever. I agree! Jaymee put that on youtube by the way, very glad she did
Spike Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I agree, its catchy… but damn do they have to repeat the chorus as many times as they did in that song?? Exactly. I just wish they'd done the backing vocals differently, that would have fixed it. Instead of having them all the way through the chorus if they just harmonised the "-utions tonight" sections it would have improved it immeasurably.
Flyingdonutz Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 This has been hard to say but American Idiot is my least favourite GD song... It's so generic and repetitive. You're right that it's repetitive. I wouldn't call it generic. That song IMO is one of the most influential songs that have come out.. ever. It, and American Idiot as an album, as well as some support from other artists (but none like Green Day) allowed artists to have free speech on the radio again after 9/11. Lots of stuff got banned and it wasn't until Green Day came out with American Idiot that everything really went back to normal. It uses an extremely generic pop technique in the writing like many Green Day songs are, but as far as the meaning it's just about the best thing they've done as a band for popular music.
The Disappearing Boy Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Take that back!!!! i love that song, ive listened to it so many times that I will never forget 99 revolutions, ever It's still a good song, but it could have been so much better.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Here's one I always forget to mention . . I will never understand why they chose to put Haushinka on Nimrod instead of Kerplunk. I know that they said they didn't like it then, but why the hell not? It sounds just like almost everything else on Kerplunk, which is awesome.

Because they wanted to have one good song to put on Nimrod, duh.
Anaïs. Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Because they wanted to have one good song to put on Nimrod, duh. How DARE you.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Its not letting me quote - anyways ceadog - what's wrong with Nimrod
Spike Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Because they wanted to have one good song to put on Nimrod, duh. Redundant, Scattered and Uptight are all top 10 Green Day songs. I know this is Unpopular Green Day Opinions and you're Ceadog, but fucking hell...
bagelfeet Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Don't know if this is unpopular but I think their best live song ever is Saint Jimmy
Spike Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 uptight really isn't that great tho sry not sry Ms Lush y u do dis to me?
Anaïs. Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 uptight really isn't that great tho sry not sry I agree. Don't get me wrong, I really like it, but one of their best songs? Not even in the top twenty.
Z J Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 21CB the album ceased to grab my attention until I started listening to it all the way through. That's generally how I listen to new music now, just repeatedly throwing the full album in the Rhapsody que and listening to the music in the background of whatever I'm doing. Speaking of which, Viva La Gloria! was a song that immediately caught my attention. Beautiful intro. Very underrated song. Also Uptight is very creative lyrically but it just doesn't connect with me like some of their other lyrical master pieces. The chorus doesn't have the hook or vocal runs that I really like to latch on to either.
Spike Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Speaking of which, Viva La Gloria! was a song that immediately caught my attention. Beautiful intro. Very underrated song. I love the intro of Viva La Gloria. As soon as the piano stops and it turns into a weak Letterbomb ripoff it falls down, but up until that point it's fantastic. It just shows what a versatile songwriter Billie is, how he can spend forever writing catchy punk then suddenly rips out a freaking piano ballad. Very impressive.

It just shows what a versatile songwriter Billie is, how he can spend forever writing catchy punk then suddenly rips out a freaking piano ballad. Very impressive. Piano is an area I wish they'd explore more. Not in "The Forgotten" vein, it doesn't have to be sappy but more in the Viva La Gloria intro or the bridge-chorus transition in 21 Guns. If they'd get a little more creative with the notes, I think it would work really nice and they've proven themselves to be incredible at building the tempo toward an explosive ending, perfect for piano. As for the second half of Viva La Gloria, I had viewed it as negligible at first. I really only listened to the first half then never really paid the second part any notice. But a little while ago I really started to enjoy it. Big sound, very well produced I think and I like the vocal. Very anthemic. I like the backing vocals. Falling in broken glass and slashing through your spiritsI can hear it like a jilted crowdand You found a home in all your scars and ammunition are lines that I really like. The lyrics are very good throughout the whole thing I think. But in the end it is the beginning that sets it apart from their other material
Z J Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Viva La Gloria? > Viva La Gloria! it's a different style for them for sure but it doesn't do anything spectacularly. Lyrics aren't anything special, the operatic style is very interesting live though. Interesting to see them perform that.
Idiotic Tendency... Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 t's one of the few occasions where GD managed to put together a b-side that was better than an album track. The another is Lights Out from KYE
Asa. Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The fuck, when the guitars come in on Viva La Gloria, that's like a highlight of the album. It just explodes. So awesome.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I don't like Christian's Inferno at all but "Disneyfied" is such a good way to describe The Static Age. I never got the hype about that song, because I didn't find it all that catchy (I don't hate it, but I often skip it just as much as I skip CI) and found it had a lot of empty buzzwords. B-b-but I like Disney... I mean, let's be honest, it's just Church on Sunday given a second chance on a popular album. That's true, but I find it far too much of a drag to listen to all the way through. I feel like you and I have nearly identical opinions on 21CB. ok the songs you do like are decent choices but (im gonna put up my flame shield now) whats so bad about See the Light exactly? No need to flame shield; I'm not easily provoked. Honestly? It's the last song on the album, so I never got far enough to actually listen to it much. By that point, the album just seems so drawn out I'm like "next, please." And it also sounds just like "You Shook Me All Night Long..." uptight really isn't that great tho sry not sry TAKE IT BACK
