tdlyon Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I think the extremely repetitive chorus of Know Your Enemy keeps people from seeing that the lyrics of the verses are actually pretty good.
Hermione Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I think the extremely repetitive chorus of Know Your Enemy keeps people from seeing that the lyrics of the verses are actually pretty good. Agreed, I love: Silence is the enemy against your urgency So rally up the demons of your soul Although I enjoy the chorus too, especially because of "well gotta know the enemy, raw ham", but also because it's a good old chant/rallying cry. "Gimme gimme REVOLUTION!" is pretty badass as well. Am I the only person here who remembers the legendary moment when Dai posted "I LOVE THE CREAM" (meaning to post scream) when we first heard a clip of the song? Hang on a minute, I've just realized that being on GDC when Know Your Enemy came out is what makes me like it so much lmao
Spike Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I've already said basically all I have to say about Know Your Enemy, BUT: I do like the verse lyrics. It's just a shame that even they suffer due to being sung with the exact same melody of the chorus, on top of everything else.

justcause Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What's wrong with it? It's supposed to be creepy , it's about how showbiz parents and the entertainment industry creepily push young girls into the limelight as soon as they're "old enough to bleed". It's suitably gross I think. I think that part of the creepyness is that it's voyeuristic - like, the voice of this song is observing this girl, being entertained by her disasters, getting turned on by her, because yeah, 'she's old enough', that little back-of-your-mind justification. The lines read like headlines from a trashy celebrity gossip magazine, and you can talk about the showbiz parents and the entertainment industry, but we're the ones buying - we're the voyeurs. This sweet-sounding little song is the anthem to that little circle of demand and supply, and when the 'bleed' line comes in, it's properly unsettling because it's revealing what's really going on here - the wolves show their teeth. Who are the wolves, then ? The ones selling, or the ones buying ?
DirtyRottenForgotten Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 The live version of X-Kid doesn't even hold up to the studio version.
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 He allowed it though he also allowed lady cobra to be in the song in the first place...

Spike Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 he also allowed lady cobra to be in the song in the first place... I know, what's your point?
Anaïs. Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Every time I listen to Insomniac, I shake my head and wonder "Why in God's name did they make 'Stuck with Me' a single?!" It's one of the least melodic/catchy songs on the album, and "Stuart and the Ave." and "No Pride" are clearly superior, radio-friendly songs.

It's not a bad song, but it's one of the weaker ones on the album. Not that that's saying much, more or less every song on it is amazing. I don't think it was a bad choice of single though, it represents the vibe of the album really well, especially lyrically. Stuart and the Ave wouldn't have made a good single as the standout word in it is fuck. No Pride could have worked though.
Anaïs. Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Stuart and the Ave wouldn't have made a good single as the standout word in it is fuck. Might I remind you this is the same band that released "Kill the DJ" and "Longview" as singles.
Spike Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Might I remind you this is the same band that released "Kill the DJ" and "Longview" as singles. And Know Your Enemy. And Oh Love. And When It's Time. Point taken Can you imagine Stuart and the Ave's radio edit? "And now it's all dekcuf up!"
munns6691 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I actually think Stuck with Me is the best song on the album, aside from Stuart and the Ave. Westbound Sign could maybe have worked as a single though?
Anaïs. Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Can you imagine Stuart and the Ave's radio edit? "And now it's all dekcuf up!" One of my favorite bootlegs is Billie playing an unplugged setlist for KALX; it includes Stuart and the Ave., and its radio-friendly lyric change is "quirked up", which causes Billie to giggle uncontrollably. XD And of course, he forgets the second verse and gives up.

Antonium2200 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I think Uno Dos and Tre were Green Day's worst albums. Not saying the albums are completely terrible, but it's like most of the songs have ego written all over it.
Mar Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 The live version of X-Kid doesn't even hold up to the studio version. Hearing X-Kid live just bummed me out. I love the song, but no one knew it at my show and it was unfortunate just kind of seeing them play a song that obviously has a deep meaning for the band to a dead room. Like, WMUWSE is sad, but it gets such a reaction from the audience that it becomes powerful. With what I've seen from X-Kid, it's hard to make the song seem special when the audience doesn't get it. It's a shame.

I don't think the trilogy is up there with their best albums. I don't think they have ego written all over them I just think they aren't as great as some of the others but I still love them... if that makes sense
Jax Teller Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I think Uno Dos and Tre were Green Day's worst albums. Not saying the albums are completely terrible, but it's like most of the songs have ego written all over it. Sorry, is this an unpopular opinion? It's so rare to find someone who likes these three albums that whenever this happens I want to give him/her an award.

The rest had OK melodies, but the lyrics looked like Billie came up with them on an short, inner-city bus ride. I think it was mainly their ego that made them not put as much effort into it. Oh well. Sorry, is this an unpopular opinion? It's so rare to find someone who likes these three albums that whenever this happens I want to give him/her an award. Maybe it's a popular opinion... shit.
IlariaIDIOT Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I'm going to sell a kidney for listen at once Are We The Waiting live (and others songs)

Spike Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I wish I could see X Kid live, from what I've seen on YouTube it's even better live than on record
