Spike Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 No, writing KYE and Oh Love were the worst decisions the band ever made, let alone making them lead singles! Though dropping Breakdown was a bad move too. Haha, yeah! Almost like they didn't want the albums to sell, eh. Oh and the sax solo on Static Age live is fantastic. That's true! I mean, it's Jason fuckin' Freeeeeese!
Asa. Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Haha, yeah! Almost like they didn't want the albums to sell, eh. That's true! I mean, it's Jason fuckin' Freeeeeese! Oh my god Billie's fuckin face
Tubbie Head Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Omg You should post that on the GD lookalikes thread.
Guest Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Adding a sax player to their live ensemble was the best decision Green Day ever made.
Carrot Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 im actually kinda glad the 21st Century Breakdown Tour is over. i dunno why. i think it was too much. the 99 revolutions tour was better imo
Z J Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 im actually kinda glad the 21st Century Breakdown Tour is over. i dunno why. i think it was too much. the 99 revolutions tour was better imo ha no way. All they did was dull down the show by taking out the explosions. On 21cb they were well timed and not over-used. Also billie's voice was at its best on that tour. And lastly the playlists were better.
Spike Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Adding a sax player to their live ensemble was the best decision Green Day ever made. This, forever. i miss everything about the 21st century breakdown tour Me too, it was clearly the best tour they've ever done. The AI tour was great but seemed kind of over-rehearsed, like you'd get exactly the same experience at every single show. 21stCB had a bit of spontaneity about it, like every show was unique and special. And the general set and theatrics were fucking incredible.
fromdecimateddreams Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Surprisingly Static Age was one of my favourites live, along with 21 Guns. I'm not sure why, but it made me like the song more after experiencing it live. Same. I'm not big on the studio version of 21 Guns, I don't think it's their best, but the live version is just absolutely amazing. And add me to the list of people who think adding a sax player was one of their best decisions ever.
Z J Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Same. I'm not big on the studio version of 21 Guns, I don't think it's their best, but the live version is just absolutely amazing. And add me to the list of people who think adding a sax player was one of their best decisions ever. yes on both but especially to the 21 Guns thing. x10000. As far as their best tours go, I'd say from what I've seen/heard it would probably rank: 21CB AI Dookie Dookie doesn't have polished performances like their latest tours but there is something cool about seeing 20 something year old kids taking on things like Woodstock. It was their breakout tour on a national level. Not many things rival that Jaded in Chicago concert either.
Spike Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Same. I'm not big on the studio version of 21 Guns, I don't think it's their best, but the live version is just absolutely amazing. It's all in the pyros tbh. Still approve of it, though. Omg You should post that on the GD lookalikes thread. I can't find it
The Disappearing Boy Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Forget sax player, adding Jason Freese was the best thing they've done. He seems like a cool guy, and an excellent musician. What I like is that he doesn't try and steal the show, but he certainly adds something to their performances.

What I like is that he doesn't try and steal the show, but he certainly adds something to their performances. I do think he's an actual musical genius. Obviously tremendously talented (which clearly runs in the family), and really understands subtlety (which is a skill when you're in a band with Tre Cool) but seriously knows how to play and go for it when it's appropriate. I also think he's an entertaining performer, especially compared to the likes of Jeff fucking "why am I even here?" Matika. I'm actually offended that he's been left out of the show on the recent tour, he was utilised so much better on the 21CB tour.
Spike Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I cry whenever I realize that we're never going to get that tour back, and I kick myself for not trying to have made it to more shows Not surprised, it was clearly the best tour they've ever done, from the setlist, pyros, the awesome stage backdrop, Billie's shenanigans, audience participation, utilisation of Jason Freese... I saw them at the same venue on American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown tours and the latter was so much better, and that's saying a hell of a lot given how good the American Idiot show was.
JOE THE X-KID Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I cry whenever I realize that we're never going to get that tour back, and I kick myself for not trying to have made it to more shows the thing that I miss the most is definately the accoustic encores...
IlariaIDIOT Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 i miss everything about the 21st century breakdown tour Me too. And I'm so sad because I didn't go in 2009 to see it
Z J Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 It's all in the pyros tbh. Still approve of it, though. The bridge followed by the piano is just fucking epic live. the thing that I miss the most is definately the accoustic encores. sooo pissed I wasn't a fan of Green Day for that tour and the acoustic encores are just frickin fantastic
fromdecimateddreams Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 It's all in the pyros tbh. Still approve of it, though. Ehh, I disagree. The pyros are great obviously, but it sounds so much more raw and powerful when it's live. It's actually one of my favourite tracks on AAF.
Tubbie Head Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 the thing that I miss the most is definately the accoustic encores... Totally! The pyro/background etc made the whole show epic but the acoustic encores were the absolute best. I wish I had seen more than one show but still I'm very happy I got to attend one The opportunity to see their soundchecks was also great (specially since I got that chance!), not sure if they did that for any of the shows this tour... But basically, 21stCBD tour = best tour to date.
Spike Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Ehh, I disagree. The pyros are great obviously, but it sounds so much more raw and powerful when it's live. It's actually one of my favourite tracks on AAF. I was semi joking really. The pyros do make it, but it is better musically live. Like you say, more powerful and raw, and the bridge on piano is brilliant.
Spike Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I read an interview with their pyro designer from that tour, I really, really wish I could find it, it was a great read.
Guest Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I read an interview with their pyro designer from that tour, I really, really wish I could find it, it was a great read. "Basically, we got loads of fire, and made it go WOOSH all the fucking time. Man, it was so awesome. I fucking love my job." The end.
Ham Pascale Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Some of you are probably gonna hate me for this, but I get really annoyed sometimes when I watch old Green Day interviews. I get it, they're supposed to be a punk rock band who don't give a fuck, but sometimes I just wanna tell them to SIT DOWN and ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTIONS instead of running around, pulling pranks and not taking anything seriously. I don't know, a part of me just finds these things (even though they're kinda funny sometimes, I'm not completely humourless) extremely disrespectful towards the poor interviewers. I love their music more than anything, but that snotty, bratty punk attitude? Hm... not for me You just said exactly what I was thinking! Bratty punk attitude is not for me either.
Hermione Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I don't even notice the pyro, lights and backgrounds etc enough to care whether they're there or not , all I do is obsessively stare at the band members so I barely notice the difference. Only thing I miss is the catwalk, it allowed way more people to get a good view of Billie way more times during the show and let them change things up and interact with the crowd more, it literally brought the band closer to the audience. I get that pyro is expensive but surely the catwalk didn't cost that much? I dunno why they got rid of it.
