Unpopular Green Day Opinions

Also to continue the never ending trilogy debate: 99 Revolutions could have been great if the band didn't get lazy.

I've heard Billie's opinion on the topic (OWS), and I think he's dead on. The verses are very good. The chorus falls a little flat, plus it's repeated too much. If they had added a really epic bridge or another section to the song, maybe make it less linear, it would have been a darn good song I think.

What's OWS?

Occupy Wall Street.

Occupy Wall Street. I'm not going to even attempt to explain it to you because I absolutely can't stand it and am incapable of discussing it even-handedly, so Google it :P

Occupy Wall Street.

Thanks guys, it's okay I have vague idea about it haha.

That's a question, not an opinion.

its an opinion in the form of a question.

No, you asked for others opinions. That's different than stating an opinion. From that post I have no idea what you think.

When you share an opinion, you're sharing what you think.

SWTRLF is fabulous in every way

It means "I'll get you into bed with me". The person he wants to get into bed is surrendering. To him. For sex :P

I think they're totally connected. The verses are saying fuck off I'm not interested in your bullshit. The chorus is making reference to giving yourself the freedom to say that to them, to "let yourself go" and come right out and say it instead of bottling it up. And doing that would feel liberating so the fun feeling of the chorus is like a little celebration that he's told the person who was bothering him to fuck off and now he can enjoy himself.

If it was in an essay it would be grammatically incorrect, but the same rules don't apply to lyrics or poetry. It's called poetic licence. Just seems to be saying there's lots of small movements of revolution going on across the country at once and referring to the "99%" of the Occupy Movement. Plus it's a play on the phrase "*insert number* revolutions per minute" where you describe how fast something is turning, only in this case he's describing how fast and widespread this "revolution"/movement is instead.

I bet you wish there were a Best Lyric Interpreter award!

Some of you are probably gonna hate me for this, but I get really annoyed sometimes when I watch old Green Day interviews. I get it, they're supposed to be a punk rock band who don't give a fuck, but sometimes I just wanna tell them to SIT DOWN and ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTIONS instead of running around, pulling pranks and not taking anything seriously. I don't know, a part of me just finds these things (even though they're kinda funny sometimes, I'm not completely humourless) extremely disrespectful towards the poor interviewers. I love their music more than anything, but that snotty, bratty punk attitude? Hm... not for me

There's no question they could be cunts sometimes when they were young.

Haha thank you :D

Well yeah, fair enough, but the grammar nazi in me finds things like that really grating! Even if it was "there's" instead of "it's" it would be a bit better, and would still fit. Other than that it is a good play on the phrase, though.

The grammar Nazi in you added a full stop to the end of your display name the way everybody else does and there's no way "Not Anyone" was taken, therefore your argument is invalid. :P

And since we're picking on Billie, he says "she DON'T like the one she's got" in Longview. That's worse. He also missed a couple of apostrophes on Instagram recently.

It looked better with a full stop, be nice! :P

Yeah, that one drives me nuts too. There are probably plenty to go at, but the fewer I remember the better, haha.

Imagine if songs all had perfect grammar though, it would limit them artistically so much. I think you'd be hard pressed to find any song with the 100% perfect grammar that an essay/article etc would have and that's because they're not supposed to, they're a different thing.

Well yeah, that's true. It's not even so much glaring grammatical "errors" though, if it's blatantly intentional then fair enough. It's just little things like the aforementioned from 99 Revolutions that I find grating. Clearly the formula works, my songwriting skills will probably never be a patch on Billie's, but that's not gonna stop me complaining about it. :P

The one that always drives me up the wall is "And I could really care less" in "Jesus of Suburbia", otherwise my favorite song ever. I want to seize Billie by the shoulders and shout "COULDN'T, YOU NITWIT!"

I force myself to hear it as "couldn't". Fucking Americans and their complete incomprehension of basic turns of phrase.

Hey, just think of how many them can trace their origins to, well...Ireland. :eyebrows::eyebrows::eyebrows:

America can keep them. There should be an IQ test before any kind of repatriation.

Honestly, I love almost every song from 1,039/Smooth to 21st Century and the Quatro series.

There were of course of lazily-written songs in Uno Dos & Tre, but I still like em.

What's the Quatro series?

I think he meant Trilogy. :)

It's what I call Uno Dos and Tre instead of labeling out each specific album, Uno Dos and Tre
