The Grouch is Tracy Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I'll play Billie's advocate here. Despite the fact that the whole "party theme" of Dos is stupid, I actually think that the transition from "Wow, That's Loud!" to "Amy" works very well. If you go with the party theme, "Wow, That's Loud!" is the final conflagration of noise before the neighbors have had it and the cops show up. "Amy" sounds just like the lone survivor, standing there amidst the wreckage and chaos, beer spilled all over the floor, lights blinking on and off. He sits down, takes in the carnage, and sighs. This will be a long cleanup. It's a really great sonic picture of the concept, one of the few really effective ones in the whole Trilogy. Interesting and thought-worthy....very apt.
bagelfeet Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I actually like every Green Day song....come at me Internet. I think we just became best friends
munns6691 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I feel very in the minority liking Amy all of a sudden. Amy just loses me at "Amy pleeeeasssrreeeereeeeeee dont goooooooooo" could have been a much better line there. I think we just became best friends I actually only dislike a small handful. The rest I like and love to different extents. (Nightlife, Lady Cobra Makeout Party, Rest, Strangeland, Sweet Children, Best Thing In Town, Fuck Time and Green Day)
Slydren Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I think we just became best friends We can't be friends. I think 21 Guns and Know Your Enemy are horrible mistakes. They should scrap those two and restart them, I think. Since when is paedophelia and drug abuse a nice theme? Since 'Murcia
R_Z-Log Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I actually only dislike a small handful. The rest I like and love to different extents. (Nightlife, Lady Cobra Makeout Party, Rest, Strangeland, Sweet Children, Best Thing In Town, Fuck Time and Green Day) I'm right there with you! I generally like/love everything, but there only a few that just irk me. Words I Might Have Ate irritates me to no end and I have no idea why.
Spike Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I think one of the reasons I have so much hate for Dos is that, other than only liking half the songs on Uno, before that they'd released 7 albums in a row where I liked every single song. Just seemed like such a massive step backwards in that respect, y'know? I still feel bad for hating the album with Mike on the cover, though
Anaïs. Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I still feel bad for hating the album with Mike on the cover, though I feel bad that Mike is on the cover. Every time I see it, I think, "Oh, Mike, none of this was your fault."
Spike Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I feel bad that Mike is on the cover. Every time I see it, I think, "Oh, Mike, none of this was your fault." Snap! Such a BAMF hasn't been on the cover of such a dodgy album since Born In The USA.

Snows Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Nooo. You all are wrong! Dos is cool, and it's the truth, believe me.
OhTheGuilt. Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Damn...am I the only one that likes all the trilogy songs? No you aren't, I adore the trilogy.
Hermione Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Dos is my favourite Green Day album and Stop Drop And Roll isn't far off it. I think they're wonderful and so much more than just party music (although they are fabulous for that). The music is retro and badass and so are the lyrics, but they're dark and personal on both albums too, Stop Drop And Roll has plenty of dark edge to it and Dos even more so. Dos is like a ride through the extremes of the good and bad sides of the party with temptation, having a mid life crisis and questioning yourself, letting yourself go and enjoying yourself, faithfulness/unfaithfulness, humour, love, sex, alcohol, guilt, and all the other emotions that go with it, ending with the sobering reality of Amy at the end. I think it's a brilliantly structured album with great music and lyrics that explores some interesting themes Green Day haven't touched on much before and is really fun too. I don't know why it gets dismissed so easily. If Dos (save for Lazy Bones) was released under/as the Foxboro Hot Tubs my opinion would be different I can't really see how what's written on the cover could make a difference to your enjoyment of listening to it. Surely the only thing that matters is how it sounds?

fromdecimateddreams Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 It took a really long time for Dos to grow on me, and there's still a few songs on it I don't ever listen to (tbh I actually deleted Nightlife from my iTunes ). I definitely think Ashley is a standout track, though. I really like that one.
Spike Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I can't really see how what's written on the cover could make a difference to your enjoyment of listening to it. Surely the only thing that matters is how it sounds? While I agree wholeheartedly with this, I think in this instance I can understand it. Let's face it, Foxboro are great but we wouldn't necessarily EXPECT their stuff to be particularly good - just refer to what Billie said about Fuck Time turning out to be good enough to be a Green Day song. And obviously I get that bands have to evolve, try new things, reinvent themselves, whatever, but I can understand why Dos gets panned when thought of in terms of a Green Day album. They're the best band in the world at what they do usually, and while I'm into the odd garage rock band, Dos does absolutely nothing for me.

Yeah it might make a difference to how surprised you were by it. But as far as liking or disliking it you either like that garage sound or you don't, still sounds the same whether it says Green Day or Foxboro on the label.

But as far as liking or disliking it you either like that garage sound or you don't, still sounds the same whether it says Green Day or Foxboro on the label. I should explain. What I mean is I hold Green Day albums to a high standard since they've all basically each blown me away once or twice and love 99% of the songs before Dos. Now, I don't hate Dos, I like half of it. Foxboro Hot Tub sound is cool and I enjoy it but no where near the extent that I enjoy Green Day's music. I wouldn't be so harsh on some of Dos' songs if they were the Hot Tubs' cause they are different levels of a band to me, if that makes sense. If you're two favorite things Green Day has done are Dos and the Hot Tubs I would contest you like the Hot Tubs more than Green Day, which is fine but it makes your love of Dos bias a bit, does it not?

Ahh, I suppose our perspectives are a bit different then since I consider Green Day and Foxboro on the same level so I expect the same quality from both. And I worded it badly before but nah, Dos is my favourite but then a load of other Green Day albums sneak in front of Foxboro on my list so I wouldn't say I'm biased, I'm just a big fan of both.

UNICORN VOMIT Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I listen to the trilogy just as much as any other CD & I listen to at least 1 GD CD each day because I travel a lot. I don't skip any songs & Uno is my least favourite and Dos or Tre is my favourite depending on my mood (unpopular). I have said before that I believe the trilogy turned out exactly as the band planned. My question to the people on the forum who dislike the trilogy or think there at too many fillers - would you like the direction/sound/style/lyrics if they had put out 1 solid album. Sorry that has probably been asked before. & to the post above Lady Cobra is awesome I would love to see it live
The Disappearing Boy Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 To me Lady Cobra is a typical Green Day song. Quick, dirty, in and out in two minutes and a great rocker. No messing around. A highlight from Dos, along with Lazy Bones.

Spike Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I am still mad at Billie for ripping off Patti Smith THAT OBVIOUSLY in Horseshoes and Handgrenades. If we're going to get mad at Green Day for ripping people off so obviously there'll be very little left to like them for
