WhiteTim Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 True, the vocal mixing definitely sucks, but I like the guitar tone much better. A couple songs on Dookie also have the vocals vs. music problem though, particularly She (as much as I love that song, the mixing is horrendous). Yeah musically the mixing on Insomniac is top notch Hopefully they will do a 20th or least a remaster and correct it Its been a long time since I've listened to Dookie I shohld go re listen to it
fromdecimateddreams Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Hopefully they will do a 20th or least a remaster and correct it Totally. I'd much rather see a 20th anniversary thing done for Insomniac rather than Dookie. I doubt it though since Dookie was so much bigger.
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 im gonna assume there's a chance you wouldnt want a 20th anniversary thing for Nimrod...
fromdecimateddreams Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 im gonna assume there's a chance you wouldnt want a 20th anniversary thing for Nimrod... Me? I totally would, Nimrod is one of my faves.
munns6691 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I don't get the Insomniac love really. I have a hard time with Dookie because I love half the songs and skip the other half.
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 since we're talking about anniversary stuff, should green day do ANYTHING with Shenanigans? ik its not technically an album but still
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 what happened to insomniac being "the fucking best?"
Spike Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Insomniac is indeed the fucking best. Governator is also the fucking best. Shenanigans can fuck off, I'd be quite happy if they did a 10th anniversary ceremonial burning of every single copy ever created.

Spike Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I DO AGREE SIR, I think there's only one good song on Shenanigans, the rest is a load of wank. Yep! And it's Desensitized, right? Please say it's Desensitized.
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 uh no its probably ha ha you're dead or maybe suffocate
munns6691 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Shenanigans has Suffocate, Desensitized, Scumbag, Sick of Me, Do Da Da, and Ha Ha You're Dead which makes it a pretty solid album. But really why love insomniac? I mean I like it but all the songs are nothing more than solid really, nothing stands out

I mean I like it but all the songs are nothing more than solid really, nothing stands out With Insomniac, the lyrics are probably the most consistently clever Billie has ever written, the bass is clearly the best Mike has ever done, the songs just get in, do what they need to do and get out, which I love. The general attitude of the whole album kicks arse. And Babs Uvula Who?! And Panic Song. And Walking Contradiction. And just everything.

I agree the bass is real impressive on the album as is the force and angst really, again I do like most of the songs, but Bab's Ulva Who doesn't strike me as a overly standout song. Nimrod in my opinion beat insomniac with clever lyrics. Overall solid album but by Green Day standards it doesn't live up to American Idiot, Nimrod, 21st Century Breakdown, Dookie or even Warning really.

Well fair enough, it's probably one of the least ambitious albums musically, but that's what I like about it! I do love the pomp and theatrics of American Idiot and 21CB, and the musical diversity of Nimrod and Warning, but what I really love about Insomniac is that it's so no frills.

Anaïs. Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 It's defo Desensitized!!! Buh-but what about "Ha Ha You're Dead"? In terms of the mixing discussion, I've always thought Nimrod. is the gold standard.
DookieLukie Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Insomniac is great due to its simplicity. It's probably Green Day's most "punk" album in that it just sort of smashes you in the ears for 30 minutes. It's not so much diverse as it is an onslaught of power.
Jollyroger118 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 This is a weird one but I think that for the past cd's Green Day gave them the correct lyrics for the lyric books but for whatever reason they didn't for the trilogy so someone had to listen to them instead. That's why there's so many mistakes and stuff because I can't think of why else that happened.
