WhiteTim Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Christie Road was written and played before sep. 91 which is when Smells like Teen Spirit came out.. So Yes Nirvana heard Christie Road and ripped it off.. you are so fucking right... So Christie Road is a Boston rip off as well...

WhiteTim Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 So Teen Spirit must also have been written and played before then. Noo Kurt somehow heard Christie Road in 1990 (when Kurt wrote SLTS) and said "hey that sounds good it sounds just like Boston as well Im just gonna rip this off instead since it already sounds like More Than A Feeling" and bam stoled Christie Road from Green Day that's how it happened
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Just for a laugh, I'm gonna get back on topic: I'm glad the 99 Revs tour has ended.
munns6691 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Yes Nirvana heard Christie Road and ripped it off.. you are so fucking right... So Christie Road is a Boston rip off as well... One last comment then we should move on. No I'm not saying either song "ripped off" the other. Neither band probably even listened to the other.

The Disappearing Boy Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 why? lol I dunno really. I just wanted to say something controversial to steer it away from the Nirvana/GD discussion For many reasons this era hasn't been that great, and I think it'd be great to wipe the slate clean, draw a line under it and use as many clichés about starting from scratch as possible.
Metanoia Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Yes, as is Worry Rock I swear, that is exactly what I thought today when I listened to it on the bus.
Anaïs. Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 After listening to each one multiple times over the week whilst writing papers, I've come to the conclusion that, in terms of which album is stronger as a whole, Insomniac blows Dookie out of the water.

YES! The lyrics are far superior, the general attitude is more fitting, Mike's bass playing is ON FIRE and the whole thing is less polished. I think it's the closest Green Day have ever come to genuine punk, and it's awesome.

Z J Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Green Day doesn't need to be "genuine punk" to have a good album. I just want whatever they do to be inspired. Insomniac certainly accomplished that. As did AI and Dookie to a lesser extent.

AI is absolutely masterful, but there's very little that's punk about it.

Here's my unpopular opinion. Almost every album by them blows Dookie out of the water.

But I agree--it's better than 39/Smooth and the Trilogy, but otherwise. It has incredibly strong single choices, but most of the non-album tracks save "Burnout" and "F.O.D." are pretty weak.

Spike Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I think with Dookie, every song apart from Longview is good. The only problem with it as an album is that it gets quite samey towards the end, but when taken individually most of the songs are fantastic. I do think some of the songs are suffering with age in a way though, there's only so many times you can listen to In The End without its effect eventually diminishing. I'm even getting quite bored of Basket Case and straight up dislike Welcome To Paradise, but again, that's because I, and the band, have overplayed them. It doesn't make them less good as songs.
Anaïs. Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I think with Dookie, every song apart from Longview is good. Heretic! In all seriousness, I just can't understand the dislike several forum members here have for "Longview". That bass...

munns6691 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Fair enough Care to elaborate? Dookie is my hardest album to rank. I love Burnout, Having a Blast, Pulling Teeth, Basketcase, She and Coming Clean. I really like Welcome to Paradise, and Chump. However the vocals and instruments could sound a bit better especially on Having a Blast and she. Armatage Shanks, Stuck with Me, No Pride, Stuart and the Ave. are real good but I'm not sure if I'd take any of those above my Dookie Favorites. Insomniac just has a few to many average songs by Green Day standards. Brat, Babs Ulva Who, Brain Stew, Jaded, and Tight Wad Hill can all be overlooked to me.

Yeah, the poor mixing is why I could never get into the studio version of "She". It's my most-played song of AAF, though. I love all of those songs save for "Tight Wad Hill". "Jaded" especially is one of my favorite things the band's ever done, and for black humor you can't beat "Brat".
