Clockwise Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I've heard Coldplay fans say the cover and artwork of "Mylo Xyloto" is punk. It's a great cover, and great album IMO. I love Coldplay...
Iva Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Maybe someone else found Stadium Arcadium life changing? It did mine. Thanks to its fucking build-up I didn't pay as much attention to Green Day at the time and I should have. I will never forgive that to myself.
Jollyroger118 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 If AI was released today as is it'd not be nowhere near as big considering the political theme of Bush that AI focuses on is 10 years pass no one cares about Bush anymore and politics from Bush era and Obama era has changed AI political stances are expired and outdated Expired and outdated? American Idiot resonates so well not because it's political but because the feelings in it are timeless and meaningful. AI really isn't that political in the overall scope of it but it is a good reflection on American people today in social commentary. Like Jesus of Suburbia and the people he's surrounded by, it's so real and relatable to me cause its so true (I live in bumfuck Arizona). But the people still have feelings that are again still timeless and meaningful, but their shown through the lenses of American youth. The stories sort of like a Greek epic or a tragedy, but those were shown through the lenses of their times. I love AI and I'm going to bed

Sir Psycho Sexy Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 i've never heard anyone say "yeah man coldplay are my favorite band they changed my life". maybe they've sold more albums than green day have but honestly who gives a fuck? that's not what's important. what's important is the impact the music has on people on a personal level. You think that because you don't know Coldplay fans. I searched their forum and there are a lot of guys saying "Coldplay saved my fucking life". For exemple: I was young, and I went through such a rough time, my mum passed away when I was 13, I remember feeling like I'd lost everything.and I remember AROBTTH had just came out, that album saved my life if that's not impact on personal level I don't know what is. And you are talking about Green Day being eveywhere, you think that cause you liked Green Day and you followed them. I'm sure Coldplay fans can say that Coldplay were everywhere. Oh and by the way, I HATE COLDPLAY and their "emotional" music
Ellen18 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Insomniac is in my opinion, the most underated green day album. It is awesome!! In regards to the trilogy....dirrty rotten bastards, let yourself go, stay the night (only when it's live), lazy bones, nuclear family, fuck time, carpe diem, stop when the red lights flash, little boy named train are my favorites I love troublemaker...apart from the chrous! Everyone says how green day don't play the same style of music as they used to....and I do agreed, but lets be honest, they are men in their 40's now who are more grown up. They aren't going to sing about masterbating all day....just saying Who Wrote Holden Caulfield is definately my favourite green day song

They aren't going to sing about masterbating all day....just saying Fuck Time? Nah but you're right. The problem is, the majority seems to doesn't know this "getting older" thing. And people forget how young and good Billie looks, I mean, after like 20 years full of drugs and more shit he still looks fabulous.
Z J Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 But Katy writes her own lyrics and even for other artists... All I'm saying for first argument is if AI was released today it'd not have sold 16 million copies I would say it'd be lucky to sell 4m worldwide Second of course its opinions but just cause you're nit a fan don't make an artist trash/horrible well it makes them horrible...in my opinion also didn't say she didn't write her own songs. Just that they're not anything special, to me of course. I know this is barely relevant, but Katy Perry is a great pop songwriter, and writes all her own songs and lyrics. I didn't say she didn't, for the record.
Z J Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 The songs AI and Holiday are political and are outdated well AI more so than Holiday I like AI not hating at all but I'm not in denial when I say if AI was released today it wouldn't make as an impact as it did in 2004 American Idiot talks about the media's control of our country and that definitely is still relevant. And Holiday's lyrics still apply to America's military industrial complex and our politicians willingness to fuck us over.

"Holiday" applies to that perfectly.
munns6691 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Guys anyone can think any band has changed their lives lets get back to unpopular opinionsLike this, Dirty Rotten Bastards loses me after the 2nd verse and overall the song is one of my least favorites on the trilogy
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 The phrases 'Rage and Love' and 'Awesome as Fuck' have become really horrible cliches.
Hermione Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 The phrases 'Rage and Love' and 'Awesome as Fuck' have become really horrible cliches. I'd agree with rage and love. And it's funny that Billie himself sometimes uses it the same cringy way fans do . Awesome as fuck was only really a fun little fad at the time the DVD came out though, I rarely see it used now and when I do it's usually at least partly tongue in cheek.
musso_kn Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 It sort of bugged me when Billie signed that little note on instagram at the end of his rehab period with 'rage and love'. It was a corny end to an otherwise sincere message.
Iain Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 The phrases 'Rage and Love' and 'Awesome as Fuck' have become really horrible cliches. You have no idea how much I want to punch people who abuse these two phrases. Except Billie, of course. I think the fact "Rage and Love" came from certain lyrics he wrote gives him a rite of passage to abuse it, by law.
Hermione Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 It sort of bugged me when Billie signed that little note on instagram at the end of his rehab period with 'rage and love'. It was a corny end to an otherwise sincere message. Just because something's corny it doesn't mean it isn't sincere. I'd say worrying about whether something's too corny and not saying it because it isn't cool enough would be far a less sincere move. He came up with that phrase and it came from the heart, the fact that fans picked up on it and made it a bit of a cliche doesn't change that.
Asa. Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I love the dude, but sometimes it just bugs the shit out of me that Tre almost never takes anything seriously. I know it's just his image, but still.
Spike Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I love the dude, but sometimes it just bugs the shit out of me that Tre almost never takes anything seriously. I know it's just his image, but still. I get the impression it's a defence mechanism. I dunno, I've just had the odd glimpse of him and got the impression he's really unhappy somehow.

I absolutely agree. I think I've said this before, but I think if I spent a lot of time with him, he'd get on my nerves eventually. It's kinda interesting that you mention a defence mechanism. In interviews he is often the quietest, but his actions speak louder than his words. Kind of in an attention-seeking way - I don't mean that in a bad way though. People like that are often the unhappiest.
Hermione Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 He takes his drumming and his band seriously, that's the most important thing and the only thing that's really our business. And you can see from more in depth interviews that he's intelligent, kind and thoughtful too, he has a funny/wacky/attention seeking character but it's clear there's more to him than that. But without knowing him and being a psychologist I don't think we can really give him much of a psychological analysis!
carriedaway Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Aren't comedians usually the saddest people, I know I've heard this somewhere. And in that Green Day to China thing Aaron Cometbus wrote he says how reluctant Tre was to introduce his new girlfriend to the other guys because he was afraid of losing her to them. I think Tre's actually a very sensitive guy who uses humor to disguise that.
The Grouch is Tracy Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 The Tears of a Clown and all that.....
JOE THE X-KID Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Tre actually seems really shy in a weird way
