OhTheGuilt. Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 - Deadbeat Holiday would be perfect live - I hate Geek Stink Breath - Stay The Night is the new Minority, and should replace it as the last song before encore Nooooo, never replace "Minority".. at least don't do that until I'll see them live playing It.
ThranaM Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I ment replacing it as the last of the setlist, not the song kinda thing
OhTheGuilt. Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I ment replacing it as the last of the setlist, not the song kinda thing Yeah I get what you said, I was saying don't replace that on their live setlist until I'll see them live for my first time
The Grouch is Tracy Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Unpopular opinion and probably a very bad idea, but, just for those of us who are stuck working retail and unpacking Christmas crap and listening crap holiday music already...... How about a Christmas album from Green Day! Think of all the cheesy songs that could be on it....... Rudolph the insecure and chronically insomniac reindeer, I Saw Mommy Fucking Santa Claus Won't those Shitty bells ever shut up? Etc.
The Grouch is Tracy Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 idk about a whole christmas album, but it would be pretty cool if they just did a couple covers of christmas songs and released them online or something. i love christmas music ^_^ I usually do too, but I really think it's way too early to start now and takes away from the holiday feeling! I know Billie Joe did a couple of quick low- quality songs a few years ago.

One song that mentions Christmas, then a bunch of new material. I think it would be awesome for Green Day to do that sometimes. Keep up with social media and all.

They just felt like releasing new material.

I was referring to the lyric "I'm empty like the day after Christmas." Plus Boxing Day kind of refers to it. But what you said is what I was getting at. A "Christmas" album, but not really. Btw...did you like that EP?

I like Dogs Eating Dogs, Pretty Little Girl, and Boxing Day, the other two tracks are forgettable.
DookieLukie Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Pretty much the same. Disaster has a nice chorus though.
Spike Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 To be honest they could release a Christmas single just by adding the word "Rudolf" and sleigh bells to the first part of Dirty Rotten Bastards. Tell me that's not a Christmas melody.

Spike Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Which part? The bit they stole off the opera Carmen, or the bit where they recycled Shoplifter? The recycled Shoplifter bit Hell, the 2nd line is even "This is the season."
Sir Psycho Sexy Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 American Idiot didn't change music history. It is amazing album, my favorite from Green Day my far but it just didn't change anything in history of music. Yes, it was hugely successful but that's it.

They did do some covers a few years back when they posted phone messages on their website. They're not the best quality, but you can understand them for hte most part. edit: http://www.greendayauthority.com/downloads/featured/ Just scroll down to 'Green Day Christmas Songs'

Zelda Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Deadbeat Holiday is their best single that never happened from Warning. Agreed 100000000%. It baffles me that they've hardly ever played it live. It deserves more love.

AI was the first album to capture the cultural zeitgeist post-9/11, which automatically makes it massively important. Also, how many pop-punk bands owe their careers to AI bringing the genre back into the mainstream? Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, All Time Low, even already established bands like Jimmy Eat World, Blink, and Alkaline Trio owe AI a lot.

It was more successful than other albums Music wise it didn't change nothing musically
Spike Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I always thought AI opened the floodgates for post-9/11 politics in music, at least. Obviously it didn't change the world, but it was still important in that respect.

Yeah cause Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and New Found Glory are so successful (okay, Fall Out Boy was popular) New Found Glory had better sales before American Idiot
Spike Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 But it wasn't the first to talk bout 9/11 (not even close) and other music genres have been political... Well yeah, course. But mainstream rock bands seemed scared to speak up about it until American Idiot became successful. It gave pop punk the kick up the arse it needed, the whole genre seemed kind of pathetic in terms of politics when compared to the original punk movement.
