Unpopular Green Day Opinions

Just joking

In the Nirvana boards there's a joke that says Dave had gotten better since Bleach (who didn't play on Bleach)

Supposed so, which was why I asked.

And from somebody else's response to you, next to, well, how you got a taste of your own habit of LOL-ing ( :P ) , I'm kinda worried that people would probably attack somebody who REALLY doesn't know it. :(

I mainly put lol after stuff to let people know I'm just joking and not being serious so they'll know I wasn't seriously attacking them or anything

Nah it wasn't supposed to be that. I can't for the life of me think which interviews it was, but at the time it came out they specifically said it wasn't a rock opera, and that the songs just had characters and shared themes rather than a story line you can follow. I guess it was natural for people to expect/assume it would be another rock opera after AI and since it had characters but the band never said they were doing that, so that can be crossed off the list of reasons not to like it right away haha.

Well it's been called a rock opera every where else (including Wikipedia, for what it's worth) and there are 3 sections or acts. Just having a common theme throughout the album and having acts is enough to technically make it a rock opera.

Regardless, I like it now so it doesn't matter.

While a recent GDA post said Green Day won't be making anything like Dookie anymore, I think otherwise. If Green Day plans to make a massive anniversary for the album next year - like an awesome Dookie tour, DVDs, etc. - it would mean them having to study the material again. Looking back, remembering, reminiscing, and reflecting. So I have a really strong feeling they'll be trying to top that album in their next release. I'm really excited for that. I don't know why we should be sorry we aren't going to hear another awesome album like Dookie again.

I'm sorry, but if you're awaiting their next album like it's going to be another Dookie/AI you're going to be horrendously disappointed.

I've said it before in here, but how many bands release an album that completely changes the face of music? A few.

How many of them release 2? Even less.

Now, how many of them change the face of music 3 times? Just doesn't happen mate.

I'm sure the next album will be good(lets face it, anything would be better than the Trilogy debacle) but it's not going to be fucking huge. At best we can hope for something like a Nimrod level of public acknowledgement.

Oh yeah I know, not trying to convince you to like it haha. If you try to find a quote from a band member calling it a rock opera you won't find one though, all it might be possible to find is one of the quotes from them saying it isn't one . It's similar to/follows on from AI in that it has characters and is epic sounding, but it's only an "opera" if it's a story.

Yeah, it definitely wasn't an album made for commercial listening, just because it IS such a great album listened all the way through. In context of the album, the songs that may seem weak on their own get a boost from the way they fit in with the rest of the music. I didn't really like their choice of singles, but in this instance, I'm not sure they could've chosen anything better - it just wasn't an album meant for singles. American Idiot similarly sounds best when listened to all at once, but that album also had a lot of songs that sounded awesome as singles, too.

Some of my all time favorites came out of 21 CB. Before the Lobotomy, Viva la Gloria (Little Girl), Restless Heart Syndrome, 21st Century Breakdown - there are so many excellent songs on that album.

It really does tie it together perfectly. You hear the line, "I am my own worst enemy. Know your enemy," and it puts the album in an entirely different light. Brilliant.

So, you ... saw the light? ;)

But really, I had the same reaction. I wasn't really feeling KYE or RHS and then one day I really listened to RHS and heard that lyric and my mind was blown. Maybe I'm just biased because the 21CB era was when I really got into the fandom/first saw them live/joined GDC but I think it's wonderful, too.

Well, The Beatles. But they're The Beatles.

The Beatles didn't even do it 3 times. Maybe twice.

They were just heavily promoted in the times promotion like today's was revolutionary.

Revolver White Album Abbey Road... I'd even say St Peppers and Yellow Submarine

It's possible, I guess. I've never really looked into the Beatles hugely. Most everything I've heard from them has discouraged future listening.

You guys defend Know Your Enemy by saying it's alright or that you don't mind it. I love it and always have done. I love 21st Century Breakdown and always have done. It is absolutely on par with ALL their previous work and a trillion miles ahead of the Trilogy, which is undeniably the weakest set of songs they've ever released.

But I'm pretty sure I've said this all before.

Wrong use of the word "undeniably", my friend. (But maybe I saw it because I'm biased as I love the trilogy, a work I'd take over American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown any time)

You list the trilogy at the bottom of your Green Day rankings, no problem. You have totally the right to do it. I respect other people's opinions.

But "undeniably" would be for something undebatable, based on facts. Music is one of the most subjective things in life. Someone would appreciate the songs for music complexity, another ones for the effects they gives. 21st Century Breakdown album doesn't appeal to me, even though I think it's good music, I don't like it.

Anyway, time for an unpopular opinion (and well-introduced), but the trilogy is my favourite thing they did since Nimrod.

One more time, excuse me for my English. We, French, are the laziest people when it concerns foreign languages.

That pretty much sums up my feelings for the album.

If I'm honest with myself, I think you're right. I think the band is talented enough, but whether they produce another killer album depends on many things. The music itself, promotion from the band/label, the tastes of the general population.

Same for me! Uno Dos and Tre as a set are my favourite Green Day album, with Nimrod and 21st CB slightly behind. When we were first hearing the new songs this wouldn't have even been that unpopular, just like it wasn't unpopular for 21st CB to be a favourite when it first came out. As far I can see it's only after they turn out to not be huge "successes" that people start acting like it's strange to think they're really good :P

Oh, I know what I said was just an opinion. I don't really care if people love the trilogy either. It's just nice to express opinions as fact; it gives a sense of certainty that I like.

Green day should make a really depressing, dark acoustic album.

I'd LOVE for them to make an acoustic album. And I also happen to love it when they make darker music. So I co-sign this completely!

I love all of there albums, still don't know why people hate on uno doe tre there really good. Now there not my favorite but there good albums, and why does She's a rebel get so much hate thats the first green day song i heard..its not that bad of a song, one thing I was hoping for was that dos had more distortion like insomniac.

- Deadbeat Holiday would be perfect live

- I hate Geek Stink Breath

- Stay The Night is the new Minority, and should replace it as the last song before encore
