Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 You dont like Stay The Night????!???!? Man if only this was acient times I'd have you hung in the dungeons lmao jk but damn STN is top 5 of the trilogy imo She'd probably enjoy that though
IlariaIDIOT Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I'm not that kind of person who cry about everything about Green Day, as I said I've never cried at their concert, but I have to admit that Wake me up when september ends video live at Irving Plaza destroyed me so much.
WhiteTim Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Explain to me what's so wonderful about it. PLEASE. For me the music the lyrics and I relate to it
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 it's a shame nothing ever came of those trilogy re-recordings they were supposedly doing. the studio version of stay the night is at least listenable, but carpe diem is just a tragedy. I'm not sure what it is about Carpe Diem, probably the fact that the guitars just suck so much on it.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 that, and the vocals on irritate me for some reason. the "CARPE DIEM A BATTLE CRY" part really grates on my nerves if they ever decide to add more trilogy songs to the setlists, which is doubtful, it would be great but i have to skip iy everytime i listen to uno. i just can't. Same, it's a perma-skip for me too. Also, the lyrics are so fucking awful on that song especially. Cliché piled upon cliché.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 What, "Carpe diem a battle cry, are we all too young to die?" doesn't just pluck your heart strings? smh Even you think that's complete crap
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I also think "Stay the night because we're running out of time, I don't wanna say goodbye," etc., etc., is an utter piece of crap. But I might get flamed for saying that here in the "Stay the Night" fanclub. 95% of the trilogy has crap lyrics, don't worry about it
munns6691 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Stay the Night is a really good song, better than Nuclear Family
Clockwise Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I like both live and studio versions of STN. I totally agree that the studio version of Carpe Diem needs to be beefed up, but regardless it's one of my favorites on UNO.
DookieLukie Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Well there are lots of topics I want to stick my two cents into. 1. I really like Stay the Night. It feels like it has a lot of depth and power in it, and the solo/end sound like a live performance (the hey oh and extended solo, ending with the rapid chords over and over again). 2. Brutal Love couldn't be a good single, but not because it's too long. Someone said it is just a bit longer than WMUWSE, but there's a difference. WMUWSE got to the hook within the first minute. Brutal Love builds for the end of the song, where the intense hook appears. Good radio singles always follow the verse chorus verse chorus chorus layout. 3. Also, Wow! That's Loud is an awesome song. The middle to end sound like a Green Day jam session.
Spike Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 What the hell, Stay The Night is fucking awesome. One of the top 10 of all time, if you ask me (which you didn't ). I wish the album version didn't have the crappy slow intro though, the live version is far better. And THOSE backing vocals, oh my god. I agree about Carpe Diem though. Uuuugh. Those chorus vocals, that follow the chord progression. Cheesy as fuck, no thank you.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 this seems to be an unpopular opinion at the moment: i would actually love to hear a re-recorded/mastered version of Dookie. this is old as balls but this, but to 1039 & Kerplunk too.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 this is old as balls but this, but to 1039 & Kerplunk too. Those versions you've heard are remastered
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Those versions you've heard are remastered re-recorded, i should have bolded that part of her post.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 re-recorded, i should have bolded that part of her post. Meh, I wouldn't want them re-recorded, not ever. The band has moved on so far from that point I'm not sure if they could still bring real emotion to some of those songs. Plus their current guitar sound would fucking suck with those songs.

If they did it around the Nimrod/Warning era that would have worked, they were still at a stage in their lives/career where it would make sense for them to do it, and it would still retain some of the original sound and vibes. Maybe they've already remastered it (properly), and they're just holding out on us
Z J Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 On the topic of Stay the Night, I enjoy it. My favorite part of the album version is the voice run BJA does on "be" in "it was never meant to be" before the chorus. For a new topic, I truly believe that Jesus Of Suburbia is Green Day's worst live song performance wise. Before explaining let me first say that I think JOS is their best song overall. And I enjoyed every second of it when I saw them play it in Rochester. But just watching them perform it on youtube, I think it's currently their worst song live. First reason being that Billie's voice is just dreadful on it. It's been that way for a while and granted it's a difficult song to sing but I can't even bear to listen sometimes. Also I hate the sped up tempo. It seems more pronounced on JOS than on any other song. There are really only two versions I can find that are good and that's the AAF DVD one and an AOL sessions in 2005. The instrumentation in the song live is usually pretty good but I can't get past the speed and Billie's voice.
stories and songs Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I enjoy Stay the Night a lot. It's super fun to listen to while in the car, I gotta say. The lyrics are extremely cheesy and should be sung by a 20 year old, not a 40 year old married guy, but that's a different matter. Sound-wise, I love the song. Very catching and fun. I thought I was the only person who didn't like The Forgotten! It's just so... not good. Very, very, VERY slow and it really doesn't sound at all like a song I'd expect to hear (or want to hear, for that matter) from Green Day.
Guest Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Yeah The Forgotten is not good. They were trying too hard to churn out another BOBD/21 Guns and it just failed.
HolyHandGrenade Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Yeah The Forgotten is not good. They were trying too hard to churn out another BOBD/21 Guns and it just failed. Brutal Love stole the show from the get go, not to mention Twilight On the topic of Stay the Night, I enjoy it. The first minute gives me chills every time, and having Mike and Tre sing provides something memorable too. Although Dearly Beloved does a good job at being the calm eye of the hurricane that is JOS, I think it's done better with Nobody Likes You. Also, it would be a great cousin to Are We the Waiting with some crowd interaction in the chorus. *Disclaimer* I still like Dearly Beloved more but the difference is carpe diem is cliche after cliche with no feeling behind it and while some of the stay the night lyrics are a bit cheesy they're easy to relate to and you can tell they're coming from a real place Uno definitely had the most cliched lyrics on face value. - Carpe Diem (YOLO) - Let Yourself Go - Oh Love

As is the section right after Tre's part. But I still think JOS is better by a solid amount, because of how much better it flows and the lyrics.
Ham Pascale Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Jason's back vocals on Let Yourself Go always make me cringe (in bad means)
SmoothedOut Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 On Stay the Night, I wish the guys didn't have to change the way they play the verse. It isn't that bad but I get the impression the band's leaning towards being too, what do you call it - glammy? Or coming of age? I mean look at Billie's glitter coated Junior. Look at the way they played Knowledge at the Echoplex (with Tre doing the double snare beats - same thing with Pulling Teeth's chorus). Also consider the rest of the songs, though Brutal Love is epic it's undeniably quite a big move to an area I'd imagine musicians like Kenny Rogers would be more suited at. Classy, and still catchy. But not exactly displaying the same angst they've always had in their songs and live performances. I don't know. I think Green Day is one of the most modern bands out there while at the same time, they're one of the most old-fashioned - sound-wise.
