stories and songs Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 It seems it would do well with the fans, too. I remember around/before the trilogy was announced that people (on YT anyway) seemed to love Nuclear Family. Oh Love as a lead single kind of gives off the vibe that ¡Uno! is kind of all about lust and smex. At the time they just kept describing the trilogy as being about "sexual tension" so I guess the lust and smex vibe was okay with them? I don't know, I don't get it. Nuclear Family is SUCH A GOOD SONG. It is shameful that it wasn't a single. I think that song perfectly captures Green Day as a whole, to be honest.

Nuclear Family is my favorite trilogy song along with Stay the Night and X-kid. i can't explain i love fucking love it.
Guest Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 i still think stay the night would have been a great single If they rerecorded it like they play it live, with Tré and Mike on the intro, then yes, fuck yes. Otherwise, it kinda lacks energy.
Z J Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Not sure if stupid, or just stupid And the heavier thing was you referring to the whole manufactured pop beats or whatever. Starting to think you're intentionally misinterpreting my posts... You do realize that top 40 radio has nothing to do with the charts in the UK? Biffy isn't mainstream and they aren't on top 40 radio in America, so you invoking them makes no sense. If you look at top 40 radio, the majority of the songs are exactly as I described, pop garbage. Biffy isn't on there. I never called them pop garbage. And you compared their "heaviness" directly to Green Day, not to the top 40 music I described. I'm naturally going to assume you are comparing Green Day's music and Biffy Clyro's music when you say "it's heavier than anything Green Day has ever done" Glad to see your continuing the use of ad hominems as well
SmoothedOut Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 what i've never understood is why it's fine to like blink 182 but there is like, a major stigma attached to being a green day fan, outside of gdc obviously. i get so much shit for liking green day but everyone who gives me shit likes blink. it makes no sense at all. I've never understood that either. It's added by the stick you get from the supposed 'punks' and 'metalheads' out there when you don't listen to anything 'heavy' or 'dark'. I'm always going to be more of a Green Day fan than a Blink fan soley for those reasons - that there's just so many shit people around that band. I don't want to be mingling with shit people or be associated with them in any way. People can like Blink - that's fine. But they don't have to talk shit about Green Day because Green Day is clearly the better band. Too bad that's too much their pea-sized brains to process. For me these should've been the singles for the trilogy: 1. Nuclear Family 2. Stay the Night <------- Doesn't matter if there's no variety in the choices; the singles from the other 2 would still have made the differences between albums distinguishable 3. Sweet 16 4. Stop When the Red Lights Flash 5. Stray Heart 6. Lady Cobra -OR- Makeout Party 7. Missing You 8. X-Kid 9. 99 Revolutions You could actually swap a lot of songs for different ones and I think it would have still been better than the 3 we got from Uno and then just getting one each off of Dos and Tre. I think it would've been ideal to release that many singles no matter how crazy it may seem - releasing 3 albums was crazy enough so why not go all the way with the marketing - and maybe the setlists?
munns6691 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Carpe Diem, and Sweet 16 all could have been a good single off Uno Lazy Bones, Baby Eyes off Dos And 8th Avenue Serenade, Missing You, and 99 Revolutions would have worked for Tre. I love Brutal Love but it's too long for radio
Spike Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 If we go off the assumption that an album has, say, 5 singles and consider the trilogy as one album, it should have gone like this: 1. Nuclear Family 2. Stay The Night 3. Stop When The Red Lights Flash (I HATE Dos, but that's the least worst song on it) 4. X-Kid (obviously it was) 5. Brutal Love (I don't give a shit how long it is, it's only 9 seconds longer than WMUWSE and look how well that did. Plus a radio edit would be very easy without losing the effect). So, yeah... Oh Love should never have been written, never mind a single.

Stray Heart was the most radio-friendly song I believe. And 99 Revolutions would have been a decent performer I think as well, due to it's political nature.
stories and songs Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Unpopular opinion: The Forgotten is also a bad single. I know a lot of people love it - personally, it isn't my cup of tea. Regardless, I think it is way to mellow to be a single. Singles I'd choose from each: 1) Nuclear Family 2) Stay the Night 3) Rusty James (this song is SO amazing and so overlooked) 1) Lazy Bones 2) Stray Heart 1) X-Kid 2) Walk Away 3) Brutal Love (it's a risky one as a single, but god it's so amazing) This trilogy has an abundance of phenomenal songs that are radio friendly and that I think general listeners would enjoy. They picked such weird singles for this trilogy. When they came out you didn't even KNOW if or when they came out, and they barely got any radio play (except for Oh Love, which was an awful representation of the trilogy).
SmoothedOut Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I honestly thought everything would do well. I just don't know why things didn't. All the songs are still super catchy.

Lack of promotion due to Billie's rehab, primarily. It's a shame, but at least we have the songs. So we don't have to share them with the world and we can be ultra cliquey

I mean, it can't be denied that even the most die-hard fans have issues with the trilogy (whether it's about the quality of records and lyrics or the direction of the band) but - imagine if they weren't able to promote 21st Century Breakdown or American Idiot? That would've been a bigger mess.
Nova-Caine Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 The Forgotten is a terrible song, it reminds me of something Bon Jovi would have done in the 90's oh well, each to their own. Brutal Love just tears me apart, so does Stay the Night, he obv had some demons he needed to exorcise. I wasn't a fan of the Trilogy but put my 'what I think GD should be releasing' opinions aside and listened with unbiased ears and actually love most of it now, Dos I can't get into totally, although Stop When the red lights flash is amazing. x

Anaïs. Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 On a slightly different Trilogy note, I wish that there had been a song with all three guys trading lead vocals; would've made sense, considering each one has his face on an album cover. And no, Mike's bit on "Sex, Drugs & Violence" doesn't count.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 SWTRLF would be a terrible single. Stray Heart all the way. Stay the Night also sucks, let's face it. Nuclear Family or Fell For You would have been my choices for singles. I still think Stray Heart is a crap rip off of Mother Mary. Sue me. Stay The Night (Remixed), Nuclear Family, and Kill The DJ should have been the three singles from Uno, assuming each album got three. Fell For You, while nice if you're in love with Billie, is a bit cliched and dull, especially during the verses. It drags a little.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Who cares if Stray Heart is a rip off of Mother Mary? No one outside of the hardcore GD fandom has ever heard Mother Mary anyway and yeah Fell For You does drag, but so does BOBD, please don't anyone shoot me. Emphasis on the crap bit though. Stray Heart always felt bland and clichéd to me, and I hated Billie's voice on it. The good thing about BOBD was the lyrics, and that it was catchy as fuck. FFY doesn't have that same edge. I guess I should list my singles then Uno Nuclear Family Stay The Night Kill The DJ Dos (this is hard because so much of it is fucking rubbish) Lazy Bones Pick a random song Pick a random song Tré 99 Revolutions X Kid Missing You I actually couldn't even pick another single from Dos. Such a horrendous album. I suppose at a stretch Stray Heart would do, but I still have no idea what the last song would be.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 What is the deal with the love for Stay the Night? It's seriously boring in every way. I was even bored listening to it live, not gonna lie. I dunno, I just fell in love with it ever since hearing it at Reading last year. I don't listen to the album version anyway, the intro puts me off. The live version has so much more energy.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Yeah but they wouldn't be releasing the live version as a single u mong That's why I've been saying remixed version, duh. The reason it doesn't have energy is because the intro is so weak. If they recorded it like they played it live, it'd be sorted.
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 it's still a brrmmppp of a song. I'm sorry. That chorus is such shit, it drags the whole song down. Naaaaaaah, the little drum rolls that Tré does everytime Billie sings "stay" are just fantastic. It's not like there's better single material on Uno anyway
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Other than Nuclear Family, you mean. Which I listed as my lead single, you nincompoop
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 SHUT UP I'M STILL TIRED & I HATE YOU I should at least get credit for nincompoop. I do hope the 8 guests are enjoying our discussion.
The Grouch is Tracy Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I certainly am, as always, have at it!
Guest Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 the live version of stay the night is flawless though i've loved it ever since that recording we got of it from the echoplex last year. got me so excited for the albums to come out. The problem is the recorded version lacks the same oomph. Same thing with Carpe Diem, the bootleg versions of that were amazing, and the recorded version is dire.
WhiteTim Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 it's still a brrmmppp of a song. I'm sorry. That chorus is such shit, it drags the whole song down. You dont like Stay The Night????!???!? Man if only this was acient times I'd have you hung in the dungeons lmao jk but damn STN is top 5 of the trilogy imo
