It's too catchy to neglect.

Yes, for sure.

For me it's catchy also King For A Day but I read most of people here don't agree because it's boring now

But I always skip that stuff when I watch concert videos.

Me too

The red 7 version of Oh Love is the best one

I will once again state that Stop Drop and Roll is the best thing "Green Day" has done since American Idiot. Really an amazing album.

It's up there with my absolute favourite Green Day albums (Uno Dos and Tre, 21st CB, Nimrod, Dookie, American Idiot and Stop Drop And Roll all occupy this category ). So full of energy and great music. I think the lyrics are really underrated, there's a lot of dark stuff in there along with the fun. It's a wonderful album.

Yes, well, Billie also said the Trilogy was a return to the band's roots. Now, go listen to 1,000 Hours, a.k.a. an example of the band's roots, and tell me it sounds like Uno. :P

No he didn't. When they were getting started on making the Trilogy he mentioned they were getting "back to the basics" of making an album, as in they were just starting demoing and trying things out etc. He made no comment on what the albums would sound like. Then there was some crappy article where they twisted his words and pretended he'd said the sound would be "back to basics" and like Dookie, and and then came a load more crappy articles that copied it and spread the same fabrication around. And then all because of that one article a whole load of people were (and still are) disappointed when the albums didn't sound "back to their roots" or like Dookie. And so ends the sad story.

As redundant as its getting you still need to marry me. Exactly this; Billie and the gang stated multiple time that they were going "back to the way we used to write songs" as in they were jamming and then putting the songs together in practice, not while they were in the studio (all albums up to American Idiot were written before they were recorded, AI and 21stCB were recorded as they were being written). That's also part of the reason that they "road tested" songs during secret shows, since back in the day they would play new stuff live after it was written (though in hindsight I think playing all this new stuff live before it was released was a mistake).

i just think it's a bit silly that people are so hung up on wishing that the trilogy had been condensed into one album instead of three or whatever. just make a playlist of your favorite songs, ignore the other ones, and everyone is happy :P

I agree with you 100%.

At first I thought it would have been much better if they only released the really good songs in one album instead of three, but then I changed my mind. It's good to have so many new songs out and, like you said, everyone can pick their favourites. Everyone is happy!!! hehehe

That's my bad, then. When it comes to Green Day news, I only read a couple of posts on GDC, not actual articles. Obviously the posts I read were misinformed. :P

That makes a lot more sense though. Billie's always been weird about classifying the band's music, but I thought he had finally gone nuts if he believed the Trilogy was the same sound as their early records.

I don't get why so many people were disappointed when the Trilogy didn't sound like Dookie regardless of how Billie's statement was twisted.

Yeah, Dookie's a great album. But it came out twenty years ago and it's way in the past. Sure, it defined Green Day for about a decade, and then they came out with AI which was totally different for them, and it was awesome.

Honestly, if Green Day did what they did on Dookie throughout their entire career and just stayed static, I probably would have stopped listening. If they came out with something just like Dookie in present day, I'd probably be a little disappointed myself, like "haven't they done this already?"

I don't like this pull someone on stage stuff to be honest :/

Don't get me wrong, it's fun for the band and the guy who get's pulled on stage has the time of his life but it's not so cool to watch.

I know if I would get pulled on stage I'd probably shit myself for sure so these people deserve their respect :D

But I always skip that stuff when I watch concert videos.

Does that mean you haven't see this? :o (please ignore the obnoxious/inaccurate/borderline racist title of the video, there's nothing "fail" about it it's just fabulous):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfx9XYJLzHU

Crowd members getting brought on stage has always been one of my favourite things to watch both when I'm at shows and when watching youtube videos, it's so cool (and often funny) to see them interact with fans so closely during a show. Brings a real unpredictable element to the performance and means that line between band and fans gets destroyed which is totally awesome, there's not many other bands who'd give up some of the limelight to share the stage with fans like that.

Yeah it spread around and became "common knowledge" that he'd said that pretty quickly so you can't be blamed! That's true , I bet quite a few people have scratched their heads over that.

When I go to listen to Green Day songs on YouTube or to look at the comments, if it's a song with a woman's name, I get so irritated when people are like "lol my names Amanda/Ashley/Amy/Maria lolz." 'Cause seriously, you want to be associated with a song like Ashley or Amanda? I don't know if it's just simply the title of the songs that spawn these comments, but if they were to listen to the lyrics/knew what the songs are about, I doubt they would post these comments. No offense to anyone who does this, but it really gets to me. :/

I'd find it cool to have my name in a Green Day song whatever it was about . I don't think anyone means it seriously, you could be fully aware of the meaning of the song and still get a little kick out of them singing your name.

Yeha I've seen this :D

Very funny and no fail for sure, but that's a exception.

But you know, someone like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ORM22YpLOg

is just idk..pretty sure he was drunk as shit but I just think that's embrassing.

But yeha it's cool that the band does that, pretty important for the connection.

I never realized that GD was like the only band who does that :D

For us who grew up with it, it's like the wildest dreams coming true.

I understand (like the first time I heard live Jesus Of Suburbia)

I don't want Dookie became a mainstream thing because it's one of my favorite album

It's already sold over 20 million copies, isn't that already mainstream?

I would love for GD to become mainstream again, especially if it were because of Dookie (which is already mainstream essentially). Idk a lot of the people I know don't like GD because of the guy-liner and the emo labels that came with the band but they say they like their old stuff. Re-introducing Dookie to the jaded masses would be a perfect way to show these people that AI/21CB isn't the only side of Green Day.

When has it sold 20 million last i looked 3 weeks ago ot was a little over 17 million worldwide

I found the figure on here, which is dated 2011. If it's inaccurate then so be it, but yeah. http://whitgunn.freeservers.com/Davemusic/G/green-day/dookie.html

It also says so on wiki, but I guess that has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I never realized just how awesome "She" is until I heard the AAF version.

I know some people grow tired of it, but Good Riddance should be the live closer. Everyone in the crowd knows the lyrics, it's a fitting send-off. I like Billie's little solo encore. His performances of Good Riddance are consistently great and the little guitar solo before the final chorus is awesome.

It's the only "guaranteed" song (and that term is fluid now, surprisingly) that I can't tire of. It's so perfectly poignant.

Agreed. It was really great when they played it at Brixton, I loved hearing Brutal Love (it was probably the highlight of the show for me) and was fully prepared for that to be the last song and would've been happy with it, but when Billie came back and played Good Riddance it made the perfect ending. Can't beat it!

totally agree.

i remember after doing a number of shows, the line that ALWAYS gets me the most is "for what it's worth, it was worth all the while".

like, all the bad shit that happened - it didn't matter because it was all totally worth it for those two and a bit hours of live green day.

that song just sums up the whole experience of seeing them so perfectly.

i really hope they put it back into the setlist.

Ahh well still great numbers and still not underground thing lol

That's the thing, Dookie is certainly not underground, not with 20 mil copies sold, but in terms of popularity, Green Day pales into insignificance next to band like One Direction, Westlife or even the Beatles or the Stones. In that sense I wouldn't call Dookie exactly mainstream.

I love that song for many reason and I was REALLY happy they played both in Locarno and in Bologna

That's exactly how it was for us in Locarno. At the Belgrade show, Brutal Love really was the closer, so having seen Billie head back to us and sing GR was incredible...
