belinda jane Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 that would be fucking mind blowing!! hahaha. but yeah, can't see them pulling that off
Guest Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 It's just irritating that they're so unpredictable right now. They could go in pretty much any direction, what with the fresh start Billies rehab gave them. I'd like to see them do something completely new, but I'm not convinced they have the songwriting chops to be that adventurous. No matter how crazy they've gotten before, they've never strayed far from power chords, distortion, and 3 minute songs.
belinda jane Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 we can't even really try and guess what they'll do next because it's more than likely that they'll do the complete opposite. i just hope whatever they're thinking about doing this time works in their favour. i miss them being the biggest band in the word, to be honest.
HolyHandGrenade Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 i wish they would do something that combines the rock and roll vibe they went for with the trilogy with the lyricism of ai and 21cb or even their older albums. American Dookie. Make it happen. Punk rock opera ftw we can't even really try and guess what they'll do next because it's more than likely that they'll do the complete opposite. i just hope whatever they're thinking about doing this time works in their favour. i miss them being the biggest band in the word, to be honest. Coldplay needs a good challenger

I really don't think they'll be the biggest band in the world ever again, very few bands maintain relevance at this age, nevermind change the face of music. They've definitely not done themselves any favours with the Trilogy, that definitely damaged their reputation in a big way. Coldplay needs a good challenger Are Coldplay really the biggest band in the world right now? That's vaguely depressing, I thought they occupied a niche amongst bland 30 somethings.

THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS.

Guest Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Worst case scenario Billie quits to join Angels & Airwaves with Tom de Longe, and Mike and Tré join Sum 41.
belinda jane Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Worst case scenario Billie quits to join Angels & Airwaves with Tom de Longe, and Mike and Tré join Sum 41. jesus christ i don't know what i would do if that happens. probably go hunt them down and slap them as hard as i could. hahaha.
Guest Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 On the plus side, Sum 41 might actually release something good for the first time in 10 years

What other options are there? perhaps: Foo Fighters Muse Maroon 5 Adam Levine One Republic Imagine Dragons Mumford and Sons I still see Coldplay at the top - they're currently not touring or promoting a new album, but in a year or so, they'll be back

Mumford & Sons will have split within the next 2 years, and have 1 song, so they're gone too. Maroon 5 I'd barely class as a band. Muse's stock has fallen of late, so they're out too. The Foo's have been getting a bit bland recently, but I guess they still rock harder than Coldplay. I can live with the Foo's being top dog, I guess.
Guest Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 there isn't really a "biggest band" right now at all though. rock music hasn't really been popular at all in a couple years, at least if we're talking mainstream. Rock music is getting very big over here again, but I see your point. There're bugger all bands coming out of the States at the moment.
munns6691 Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 When you guys say you want some new suprising direction what exactly do you mean...?
Spike Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 A full album of Nightlife type stuff, maybe? A COLLABORATION WITH KANYE WEST. YEEZUS OF SUBURBIA! Maybe not.
Cob Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 3 biggest American bands in the world are probably Green Day, Metallica, and the Foo Fighters. These bands outsell festivals arenas like they're their last shows. Of course rock is not top dog in the world right now though, so it's really hard to tell what's really going on with rock in terms of "who's on top." As for Green Day's next album, I really don't know what to expect. It will probably be pretty good either way.
belinda jane Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 When you guys say you want some new suprising direction what exactly do you mean...? for them to get away from power chords and usual stuff that they do.
munns6691 Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 for them to get away from power chords and usual stuff that they do. And make an album full of Kill the DJ, Nightlife, Amy, Peacemaker and The Forgotten? No thanks that's a new band not a new album
belinda jane Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 And make an album full of Kill the DJ, Nightlife, Amy, Peacemaker and The Forgotten? No thanks that's a new band not a new album i love peacemaker, so yep i would love that. it's not a new band if they're just trying something new and different. damn, i really hate the negativity in this thread.
R_Z-Log Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 The unpredictability is fun!! We have no clue what's coming next (and they probably don't either), and that's kind of exciting. Maybe it'll be something that makes everyone roll their eyes and say "ugghhhh, really?" Or maybe it will be the best album ever made... We'll just have to wait and see. It's all part of the roller coaster of loving a band, and personally I'm excited for the ride :-)
Cob Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 i love peacemaker, so yep i would love that. it's not a new band if they're just trying something new and different. damn, i really hate the negativity in this thread. This thread was fun for about an hour back in the day when C-Dog and I were having fun. Now it's just a shitting ground where we try to piss each other off more and more with every post. Personally I couldn't care less if Green Day kept using power chords or w/e (this is rock n' roll, after all). Personally, I hope their next album has a bit dirtier, low-fi type sound but with that stripped back live feel that they tried to go for with the Trilogy. Ultimately a lack of production prevented that, but overall I was pretty happy with most of the song writing. The Trilogy reminded me why I love well written, simple music. After 21stCB it was what I wanted, for the most part. Now take those principles in a new direction. At this point I feel like rock as a whole needs to step back and really get in it, bands moving more and more towards prog and dance isn't really moving the genre, in my eyes. Green Day has the style to really hit the reset button. The unpredictability is fun!! We have no clue what's coming next (and they probably don't either), and that's kind of exciting. Maybe it'll be something that makes everyone roll their eyes and say "ugghhhh, really?" Or maybe it will be the best album ever made... We'll just have to wait and see. That was about as adventurous as a pop punk band can ever get. American Eulogy, 21CB, Viva La Gloria, Before the Lobotomy. I mean these songs were not your stereo-typical GD songs. They are Piano-led and multi-layered and plenty "adventurous" I'd say.
Z J Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 This conversation about "biggest band in the world" makes one realize how shitty rock is right now. It also means that there is a void to fill and GD should be doing something over the next year or so to get them back in the mainstream's eye. Whether that be a re-release of Dookie, a new album, or some other crazy thing. Since they missed a good portion of their publicity shows last year b/c of rehab, I'd expect they intend to do something to redeem themselves. I think they are fully capable of becoming the biggest band in the world again and I think there is an open-market for them to grab hold of

I too like Peacemaker, but not the others I listed. The reason I like peacemaker is cause it is unique. If the band decided to do a whole album with songs that sound nothing like their core songs all the new "unique" songs would get meshed together and not be as interesting. I think the next album should have 2-3 unique songs that suprise us but in a better way than Kill the DJ and NightlifeBy the way I think the next album they make rivals their 2nd best album and brings them back in a huge way.
