I've seen 21CBD shredded too many times on here ) What don't you like about AI? ha, thank you. I just don't care for the whole, telling a story, through the whole album, like if you listen to one song, you have to know the whole story to get the complete meaning, like in Letterbomb, he mentions JOS right? well I mean, you can't get that meaning if you only listened to that song. I don't like that. and I don't relate as much to their newer stuff, as I can to the old stuff. I can relate to Reject, Bab's Uvula Who?, Stuck With Me (not saying it's an amazing song, but it's relatable), and tons of others. how could someone think JOS or any song on it, is deeper than a song like Uptight, that's a beautiful song, and if anyone has been down that road, I don't see how they can't feel more connected to it than others. I also don't care of the song American Idiot.. it's too protest-y, like I'm all for peace with everyone, but I don't think that song sounds like that, it's more like a 'screw you' than a 'why can't we all get along?' which I just don't care for. I mean, sure Take Back and Platypus are in your face, but it's more about one person, and less about the government or certain groups of people. lastly.. I can't say that AI being soooo popular and everyone loving it, didn't scare me away at all... I am someone who loves stuff that others don't care for as much, that's why Dos is my fav. Trilogy album and Insomniac is my favorite GD album. I just can't relate to being the Jesus of Suburbia, but I sure can relate to 'well I know I'm not alright' or being 'all wound up'.. but this is just my opinion.. I do listen to the album, but it just gets old quick.. actually She's A Rebel is my favorite song on it, which is another unpopular opinion I know. lol. if they could have just released that song, Favorite Son (just cause it's catchy, and really no one likes George Bush anyway!) Holiday, Letterbomb, Novocain, St. Jimmy (it's fast.. so it's fun to listen to) WMUWSE... Shoplifter, Too Much Too Soon and Governator, that would be a great album, and maybe if they cut up Homecoming into the three individual songs they wrote. that would be my dream lol. and 21st CBD I love Know Your Enemy and Viva La Gloria... and the B-sides are gold to me. wow.. that was long.. but that's basically why I feel the way I do about them.

I truly think Holiday and JOS are some of the best rock songs of the past 20 years or so. Mixture of good lyrics, relatable message, great rhythm sections. They kick ass. Also in regards to AI, how does BOBD not have a meaning outside the story line. It is 1000x deeper than most anything on Insomniac or Nimrod. I don't get that

I mean, obviously there are going to be some songs on AI that are meant to serve the storyline, like St. Jimmy or Whatsername (however Whatsername can refer to anybody and not necessarily just the character, which makes that one pretty relatable actually...). But one of the big ideas in making a concept album is having it tell a great storyline, but also making it a storyline that people can easily relate to. It's just like reading a book, really. And I think Green Day did a fantastic job with it.

Green Day has saved me from road rage as well as rage in general many many times. When I am singing along in my car and someone looks over at me, I sing louder.... My unpopular opinion is that I can't stand when we refer to songs or albums by acronyms... except J.A.R. which is listed as the song's title....... Mostly because I think I am stupid and it takes me way way too long to figure out what the hell we're talking about. WMUWSE could just be Wake Me Up........ or something.
Jollyroger118 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 My unpopular opinion is that I appreciate 1039 just as much as 21st Century, all in pretty much the same way. I can relate to At the Library or No one Knows just the same as Whatsername or Before the Lobotomy. I never even questioned it really I just understand it all. I mean it's still the same man writing those songs twenty years later and hearing him go from a heart broken teen, to a bitter confused adult, to a full blown poetic god of rock with AI and 21st is just amazing. There's not many bands like Green Day where no matter what they're playing or writing it always rings pure and true. The trilogy is lyrically just not on par but I've grown to love it and I really didn't even try to so that just says more about the band. Also a lot of people seem to bash Billie's guitar playing but I think he has this strange knack to find a certain sound that captures the mood of the song perfectly. Like the guitar in Wild One or Extraordinary Girl or Basketcase sounds like the feeling the lyrics give off. Billie and the band are great at giving each song it's own personality and that's hard to do with the simple formula they usually follow.

I like them both, but I think the former has the edge--it's mixed better, it has the killer drum solos, it's slightly catchier, and it's already the album opener. And really, it kinda sums up the whole theme behind Dookie.
