Unpopular Green Day Opinions

"No Pride" or "Bab's Uvula Who?" should have been a single instead of "Stuck with Me".

I only disagree because I think Stuck With Me is so underrated

Because it's the example people always use when arguing about how Green Day have changed over the years, I wonder whether it would be such a bad thing if Billie Joe still wrote songs about masturbation. It's not exactly something you put an age limit on. Much.

He wrote Right Hand A Rama in 2003, just months before American Idiot came out, and alludes to it more than once on the Trilogy (particularly in Fell For You). Plus he was simulating masturbation on stage every night throughout their "serious" AI and 21st CB eras and continues to do so. If he did write a song that was more explicitly about it now I don't think it'd be out of place, if it was funny it would fit with the band's well known sense of humour, if it was more sexy it'd fit with the tone of their newest albums, and if it was more serious it'd fit with they way they've always written openly and honestly about things. I don't know why that's always the go-to example of how they've changed, it's a terrible one

I never thought of it like that, but you're right, they have been getting away with it under the guise of the more serious AI and 21CB. I suppose what they've really grown out of writing songs about unrequited love and smoking pot, but I don't think either of those topics are outright or funny enough to be remembered as well as masturbation!

21CB is a damn good album, I don't know why I ever stopped listening to it.

Carpe Diem would be the perfect single

Billie's guitar skills have improved since Jason got with thd band

Not that Billie was bad by no means but from Warning to now just seems Billie has improved (i have a better word but it escapes me at the moment lol)

Unpopular speculation: Tre's face is looking different lately... kinda botoxy.

i concur. i think he had botox to be truthful

Oh he definitely had botox.

it's to the point where he isn't natural anymore.

Jason plays most of the difficult* stuff live now. Billie hardly needs the guitar

*Most of their stuff is relatively easy

I was mainly talking on the albums

21 Guns is one of Green Day's dullest songs.

Billie Joe improvises a lot of solos live now that sound pretty awesome. If anything the stuff he plays live is harder than the stuff Jason plays, though both are easy for the most part.

my least favorite albums are American Idiot and 21 CBD.

Hearts Collide should have actually been on an album, not just a B-Side.
The Kerplunk of Welcome to Paradise is way better.

My favorite part of Good Riddance live is the guitar solo before the last chorus

I cannot understand how you rate the trilogy above two albums as good ad those.

I do too, different people like different things. Every one of their albums will be at the top of some people's lists and at the bottom of other people's. I can see the merits of all of them so I don't find any order unusual.

I was just asking for elaboration in my own weird way.

i actually agree with y'all about tre but can you imagine the backlash if someone suggested billie had some work done?

But no one would say that because his face is so squishy :P

Jesus of Suburbia is a boring song and I usually skip it when I listen to AI.

Also, I don't know how unpopular this is, but:

Peacemaker through The Static Age is the best sequence of Green Day songs on any of their albums.

Runner ups are Christie Road through Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? and The Grouch through Last Ride In (which are longer, but the songs aren't as consistently strong)

It took me way too long to realize that you meant The Grouch.

I know, I know, it's not a 'popular' opinion obviously lol. I just get sick of the whole album telling one story, that doesn't fit with me, I don't care about 'Jesus of Suburbia' and Christian & Gloria. I just can't get into the music. I understand AI has saved lives and created plenty of new GD fans, so I completely respect why others love them. but for me, none of those songs could 'save' me. I think Reject is more relatable than JOS. I also am not real into their protest songs, even 99 Revolutions, that's not my personality. I'm not saying I dislike any of their stuff, but I do tend to skip more of their AI-21st CBD songs than others. But, I personally hope they stay away from doing anymore storyline albums.

I enjoy the Trilogy, it's more like how they used to do it. each song tells a different story, and it seems like the band was having more fun with the album, and not having to be dead serious all the time. of course I didn't get the point of Nightlife.. but.. I mean, it is what it is. I do enjoy the 'sexual tension' as he put it, in the songs. Stray Heart, Sweet Sixteen, Missing You.. I mean, they might not have a true meaning behind the songs, and I do agree that the Trilogy probably won't save any people, but they are still doing what they've always been doing, trying new things, being creative, being unique. I know I'm a minority with this opinion, but this is just my taste in music. I'm not saying it's wrong to love AI or 21st CBD, I'm just saying, their older stuff is the stuff I can relate to, and 'saved' me. but that's the great part about Green Day, they have all kinds of music, for all kinds of people.

well if you only look at the songs on AI/21CB through that lense then you're missing out, those songs all have meaning. JOS is a pretty relatable song for a lot of disillusioned teens (Sounds like the rest of their work) and songs like Whatsername and BOBD are incredibly relatable and don't only serve the story line. As for 21CB, More of the songs are story driven, and I think that's why it was less popular, because the songs sometimes need context to be better. But Last Night on Earth and some others can still be relatable for people.

The Extraordinary Girl intro is useless :ermm:

I think Billie is a good guitar player and he doesn't really show his skills. He just plays power chord or improves (is that word right?) solos, which are pretty awesome.

But I think the way he plays the guitar is the thing that makes him special. He smashes the power chords.

And the way he looks like during playing the guitar is just awesome.

Doesn't matter which era, he's just cool as shit.
