Billie is a better singer for what Green Day does

Mike is perfect for hardcore punk music

I'm not entirely sure why "Going to Pasalacqua" is so beloved. It's not *bad*, but there are better songs on 39/Smooth ("At the Library", for example). I wish that, when they play old stuff, they'd play "80" or "Green Day" or "Android" more instead of "Pasalacqua".

I don't respect the group of fans who think that 39/Smooth and Kerplunk are flawless & pure punk, American Idiot is pseudo-punk shit for snotty crying emos who "liking" Green Day because Billie Joe is uber sexy (which is apparently NOT, he's ugly as hell sometimes, fangirls are gonna kill me.. Crazy fangirls aka "passionate fans" are also a reason why I disliked Green Day for some time. Edit: That was the time when I started to listen to them and reading fansites. I quickly grew to love them anyway.) and wish being around when guys were young does mean you're a real fan. That got kind of trendy several years ago. I'd rather find a weak points in 39/Smooth & Kerplunk than in Idiot. More than that, 39/Smooth is all about weak points.

I prefer on spelling Billy Joe than Billie Joe. I don't care about this small difference. But majority of fans gonna kill anyone who spells Billie as Billy.

Why are you guys hate John?! Everyone argumented it like:

"Whoa! He was such asshole!!" Actually, John is reason why boys were let to play at Gilman, because they "weren't heavy enough". Tre often acts like jerk, but I haven't from anyone that he's total asshole.

"Well, his drumming style sucks so bad." I'm guessing it sucks for y'all because John isn't trying to play hard as he can like most punk drummers do.

"He hates Green Day now." Nooo, I read an interview or concert review and learned that they're still good friends.

"He betrayed Green Day for college." If you didn't knew if your band would be mega successful, your band members were younger than you and they like to write love songs, which is reason that you're often laughed at and beaten up. A-a-a-and you've finally got a chance to go to college, I think you're left the band.

i just think a lot of people are biased to be honest, and don't even ever want to think that the lead singer of their favourite band has never had a crap performance.

This.

don't generalize mate. i don't see why you dislike green day for some time because of the fanbase. liking the band isn't only about being on gdc, it's about listening to them so what does it change if the fans are crazy or not?

plus majority of us find Billie joe fucking attractive so you'll have to deal with it.

Brane, I agree that there's nothing to hate John for and I agree about the bit where you quoted Belinda; but fangirls? Ummm, I had an innocent crush on Billie as a child, heck, my mom who was born in 1941 has one and my dad, who was one year older, was always like "awww, Billie, he's so sweet and funny"...while they never liked my overall favourite musician and considered him a weird creep. Billie might be the source of a lot of teenage girls' frustration, but for a bunch of us - in terms of attractiveness - he's just a cute/fun person we like to see, who brightens up our mood. :)

As a completely silly side note: to a lot of my generation's cute little girls with crushes on baaaad boys, he was the first lesson on male anatomy - he deserves some credit for that. :P

Other than that, regarding his singing: his range is good and he's improved a lot. His singing at some 1994 performances, Woodstock in particular, was DOWNRIGHT HORRIBLE. He might never end up being able to pull a falsetto the way people with super-high range do, but I saw him get only one note wrong at two shows I've been to. He executed everything perfectly.

WTF. disliking the band because of "fangirls" you should like GD for their music and not because of their fans

and BILLY Joe. Hell No.:sick:

why do you prefer to spell like that? it's BILLIE and not Billy. it's only 1 letter more.

I don't get it.

He said it was a reason he "disliked" them, not that he currently dislikes them.

And with the Billie/Billy thing, what I think he was trying to say is that the spelling doesn't bother him.

Posted

But.... Billie is his actual, legal name. With the IE and not the Y. It doesn't matter if someone "prefers" it the other way cause that's not actually his name

Billie is a fantastic live singer, but if you think he's never had a poor performance you're kidding yourself.

I love how people defend accusations that they are fanboys/fangirls by...acting like fanboys/fangirls.

But the fact that he disliked them

Also: it's BILLIE and not Billy. OH Jeez. (sorry major pet peeve :angry  )

People can be dumb. People hate things for dumb reasons. The vast majority of GD fangirls/boys wreck my head anyway, I avoid them as much as possible.

Obviously. He was just saying that the spelling doesn't bother him, it's not a huge deal.

You guys have to see fans of some other bands. This really is therapy after them.

I've seen girls obsess over the hairiness of a bassist's nipples.

I have seen a photo of guitarist's testicles on a birthday cake. And guitarist posing as Jesus on the cross on another cake. And a girl who changed her last name to his last name. Top that. ;)

Okay the cake stuff is minor league stuff but the name thing? That's proper mental. Although I'm guessing that happens a lot more than it should.

That's exactly the case I was talking about.

Billie Joe is a better singer than Mike. I enjoy Mike's parts in the songs but there is a lot of studio help there. Mike would be a good hardcore punk guy probably.

As for Billie Joe not being a good singer live.....Green Day's songs are not vocalist songs most of the time. There's a reason why they aren't often covered on reality shows or youtube. They aren't made to be flattering for the singer. Billie Joe's vocals are very good most of the time within the context of Green Day songs. His vocals were at one point truly incredible (21 CB tour) but outside of that, they are not amazing, but they're definitely good live. This tour he has clearly lost a step. For example, the note that he goes for at the end of "City of the damned".....he can't carry it anymore.

Some examples of his vocal prowess:

skip to about 3:15.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ7hLhoQ9rs

skip to about 3:15 as well. This song is actually the one from AAF but here's the video to provide a visual.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdI3vy0c9XY

here is him acoustic in 2005. Whole song is just different than anything you here from GD, in regards to his voice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw50Ki6slN4

When he is doing the call and response during Shout. This he still can do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfbJRR1Iu-o&list=FLxhRqeeE6pFngVQ_h64w-dg&index=29

and how could I forget.

He has a great voice, he is a great live singer. But he has lost a step this tour, can't hit those notes anymore. Doesn't have to to give a great performance

And to whomever said BIAB wasn't a very good vocal from BJA, you'd be partially right. But Brain Stew was damn good. As was King for a Day and I'll throw Longview in there too. He showed some good vocals in those songs. To say he is a bad singer and only cite Warning, I don't buy it

I noticed that the bass during Minority while performing live is turned too down. Come on, its the most important feature of the song!

Wait, you'd eat the balls off such a cake?

Being the one whom fans usually reach to (often unaware that I'm not the said man) and being able to read feedback to the label; I have seen it all. Somebody who needs "only food, water and medical marijuana, has no girlfriend or job" wanted to be the musician's "apprentice" and some woman from Belgium basically thought I was the said musician, she invited me for a lil' shag in Gent. She was 37 years old at the time, so nothing can possibly save her from being judged. :P

that's a mental image i really did not need

Sorry!

kind of related, billie's voice always sounds different when i'm there than i expect it to from watching videos at home and i notice it everytime i go see them. i don't really know how to explain it.

this.

every time i have seen them he sounds different.

it's like i've never heard him sing live? that sounds SO ridiculous. but that's the only way i can think of to describe it.
