OhNo Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Ok. 21 Guns: Boring, unoriginal sound. American Idiot called. It wants "Wake Me Up When September Ends" back. Before the Lobotomy: Not terrible, but not great. One of 21CB's better efforts, but pales in comparison to, you know, everything on AI. EJN: American Idiot called. It wants "Holiday" back. 21CB: Queen called. They want "Bohemian Rhapsody" back. Last of the American Girls: Derivative, boring pop track. It sucks. VLG: Unoriginal. Abuses the soft/hard motif. Generic 21CB sound that just blends in with everything else and doesn't stand out at all. Little Girl: Boring, unoriginal. Static Age: American Idiot called. It wants "Letterbomb" back. See the Light: American Idiot called. It wants "Whatsername" back. Know Your Enemy: Fuck this shitty-ass, stupid as fuck, horse shit lyrics, painfully canned and generic song. 21CB's worst, and that's saying something. I'm kind of surprised by your choices here. There's one really exceptional track on 21CB, that being American Eulogy, which is one of the best songs Green Day has ever written. To see that and the also-great Horseshoes and Handgrenades left off of this list, with shit like LOTAG, STL and KYE on it, leaves me doubting my faith in Green Day fans. LOL at VLG being bland. One of the best Green Day songs in terms of lyrics, amazing use of figurative language. Though I doubt someone who believes that American Eulogy AKA Letterbomb + "I Don't want to live in the modern world" x20 + "Mass Hystera" x20 is "one of the best songs Gree Day has ever written" will agree. WTF is the similarity between See the Light and Whatername? Two COMPLETETELY different songs.
Akshat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 chistian's inferno, see the light, kye and last of the american girls are terrible and some of the worst songs green day have ever written. the onl songs i can think of that i like less is some of their really early stuff. ugh. i can't believe they're still playing fucking know your enemy at every single show. I agree Christians Inferno is not that great. There is a lot of over production to it.The same thing happened with Horseshoes and Handgrenades,Restless Heart Syndrome anda few more songs.Maybe that's because of the fact that they did not work with their usual producer that time.Other than that, the album was fine.
Cath Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Did you read the words 'would' and 'if' ? okay i'll just write it again. if they would see it, they wouldn't give a damn. what i'm trying to say is that they don't care about what most of their fans thinks, especially when it's negative.
Akshat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 okay i'll just write it again. if they would see it, they wouldn't give a damn. what i'm trying to say is that they don't care about what most of their fans thinks, especially when it's negative. lol ok relax
Guest Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 So it's good to not like a few songs. But calling them Shitty Ass and Horse Shit is highly unacceptable. What makes you think they are terrible songs? What you just said is so hypocritical. You hate the fact that EJN,21st CB,21 Guns and a lot of other songs are basically derivitive,But what about American Eulogy, the song you so love? Isn't it made to the tune of Deadbeat Holiday? And even if they are, then how does it affect the nature of the song. Tbh, who are you to doubt the faith of other Green Day fans?Whatever people like is their choice. It's not like you were born to with an exceptional taste in music and everything you like is good and everything you don't is shit.21st Century Breakdown is an amazing album. It took them a long time to record it and they put a lot of effort there.Green Day would be so pissed if they read what you just wrote Sorry to offend your delicate sensibilities. The great thing about opinions is that they're opinions. I can stand on a mountaintop and scream that, in my opinion, 21CB is horse shit. Calling a song shitty is not "unacceptable"--no idea where the fuck you got that position from. There are a lot of albums I don't like that many others regard as among the best ever written. I could never get into 2112, yet virtually everyone considers that to be one of the best prog-rock albums ever, and Rush's defining triumph. The point of this thread is unpopular opinions. As such, I'm allowed to call KYE for what I think it is: shit. I'm also allowed to be sarcastic and make joking comments about doubting GD fans. Jesus Christ, some of you guys take everything way too seriously. Remove the stick from your ass. I'm allowed to say that 21CB sucks, just as you're allowed to disagree. okay Ben we get it you're ANGRY and you hate 21CBD But really, how could the person who made that list leave off American Eulogy and Horseshoes and Handgrenades? Such stellar songs. I still say "See the Light" is fucking fantastic though. Not angry at all. Someone challenged me to demonstrate how 21CB sucks, and I did so. If people disagree with my opinion, fine. That's what opinions are for: disagreement over. Suggesting that GD would be pissed off if they read my comment, frankly, made me shit my pants with hysterical laughter, so someone owes me a new pair of undies.
Hermione Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Ben 21st CB is fabulous deal with it . I wouldn't say a song having a similarity to another song makes it bad. Makes it less original but it doesn't affect how good it sounds, and there's plenty of songs that sound like other songs on other Green Day albums as well anyway. Also who could not love a song that contains this?!?!?!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2PSVYzdcM8 Letterbomb is their best songLast year we had a epic voting battle between all the Green Day songs to find out which was GDC's favourite. We disqualified Jesus Of Suburbia because that had already won when we did the same thing a couple of years before, but out of all the rest Letterbomb won the vote. So I'd say your opinion is pretty popular
elisa Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I actually think Billie did some of his best writing for 21CB.
Guest Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I'll set up a fund for your new underpants, I'm pretty sure that "insult" gets handed out pretty regularly around here Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the first time. It's an unpopular opinions thread ffs, and it seems like my opinion on 21CB is slightly unpopular (though I know there are those on this forum who agree with me).

Can we say hypocrite?

Sure, you are free to call anything you want horseshit. But that's simply your opinion, which without actual constructive criticism, is horseshit and holds no ground. With out properly elaborating as to why certain songs are horseshit except by pulling comparisons of songs of 21st Century to songs of American Idiot completely out of your ass, you are surely going to make people shake their heads.

The first line I wrote read "It's ok to have an opinion".So it should be clear that I'm completely alright with people having opinions here. That's what forums are for.But I'm allowed to be sarcastic too, and what I did with that meme was BE SARCASTIC.Why the fuck are you asking me to stop being a dick when you are being a really big one? You resemble George Bush, that cunt who said he wants peace but what he did was destroy peace. You talk about how we should not make a big deal out of small things, but what you just did was make me look like a dick for just saying that Green Day would be pissed if they saw what you wrote, because it was so STUPID.You were laughing your ass off? When I read what you wrote,I banged my head on the wall with so much anger that I have a really bad bruise now. I can't believe you're a mod here.Instead of de-escalating tension, you fucking create more.
Guest Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 LMFAO one 21st Century sounds nothing like Queenyou if you think so you need a ear check and never in life talk about music ever ever again Two you talk all these songs rip off other songs but then praise American Eulogy which in your words would be Warning called it wants Deadbeat Holiday backs... Can we say hypocrite? My wife is actually the one who, after seeing a live performance of 21CB, called it "a punk-rock Bohemian Rhapsody". I haven't been able to un-hear it ever since. The structure is very similar: ballad, energetic middle section, rock-out, ballad. And while my hearing might not be what it used to (too many firecrackers as a kid), I'm pretty sure I'm still allowed to come into an unpopular opinion thread and voice my unpopular opinion. If people disagree, cool. That's what this thread is for. As for AE, exceptional lyrics can make up for other flaws. Mass Hysteria definitely borrows heavily from Deadbeat Holiday, but it has some of the best lyrics GD has ever written on top of a faster-paced rhythm. Tell me with a straight face that the lyrics of Mass Hysteria don't paint a vivid, absolute picture of chaos and post-Katrina sensationalism in your mind. The difference is that very few other songs on 21CB have above-average lyrics. I'm not even going to try to pretend: my assessment of 21CB is strongly colored by AI. The comparison I've made frequently is that 21CB is Green Day's "The Final Cut": full of material that sounds like it was left off of the previous landmark record because it just wasn't good enough. There's exceptional material on both albums--American Eulogy and Horseshoes and Handgrenades, and The Fletcher Memorial Home and Not Now, John (and, later, When the Tigers Broke Free)--but they're both trying to live up to and follow on in the footsteps of a predecessor that should not have been replicated. I should also mention that Green Day's cover of "A Quick One While He's Away" is outstanding work. FYI, still gonna talk about music. I can't believe you're a mod here.Instead of de-escalating tension, you fucking create more. lol Look, if you can't handle being told in an opinion thread that someone is of the opinion that a record you personally love sucks, maybe the point of such threads is lost on you. My having an opinion that differs from yours doesn't make me a bad mod, sorry, although that is the most hilarious reason I've ever seen for someone calling me one. You owe me another pair of undies now.
Akshat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I like you mate, and you're solid and all but Ben didn't reach through the computer and force you to bang your head against the wall. I love 21CBD as much as the next guy (or girl? Or die-hard fan?) but sometimes you just need to chill and accept that different people have different opinions I didn't ask him to shit his pants either. And to be honest,I was never really that mean towards him or anything. But I didn't like it when he said that Green Day fans in general don't have good beliefs and how he is making a big deal out of my' Green Day read it' statement. This guy is a hypocrite. And you can't challenge me here because this is my goddamn opinion. You owe me another pair of undies now Maybe you should consider wearing diapers because you shit a lot, both with your asshole and with your words
GenesisJames Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Jesus, this is turning into another Secrets thread. XD Anyway, I feel that quite a few songs from Shenanigans were good enough to make it on an actual album. "On The Wagon", "Rotting", and "Tired Of Waiting For You", especially.
munns6691 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 chistian's inferno, see the light, kye and last of the american girls are terrible and some of the worst songs green day have ever written. the onl songs i can think of that i like less is some of their really early stuff. ugh. i can't believe they're still playing fucking know your enemy at every single show. Guest Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Maybe you should consider wearing diapers because you shit a lot, both with your asshole and with your words Third pair. Actually, fourth. I need one for my mouth now, too. I'm done with this discussion. Is my reasoning for hating 21CB bullshit? Sure, maybe, but it's an opinion and I'm allowed to have it. You now have your own opinions about me as a person based upon what I think of a certain album, which is cool by me. If you want to judge me based upon a sarcastic reply to a Willy Wonka meme that was written originally as a joke, fine. I honestly could not give less of a shit if you judge people based upon such shallow criteria. I see you're from India, and it's entirely possible there's a language barrier there. If that's caused any unintended friction, I apologize. My joke about losing faith in GD fans was just that, a joke. If that joke or the comments on how ridiculous your "pissed off GD" follow-up was somehow deeply offended you, then I'm sorry, but I do suggest you grow thicker skin. You're going to get far, far worse than that in the real world. I'm not on this forum to make enemies, least of all over a series of sarcastic comments, so, again, if anything I said rubbed you the wrong way, sorry. When you post an opinion in an opinion thread, particularly in the form of a cheesy, overused meme, expect people to disagree with you. Some will disagree with you strongly. If you can't handle small, pointless disagreements without calling people cunts, then you're going to have problems way bigger than any stupid argument over how shitty an album is or is not.
OhNo Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Here's something that's probably an unpopular opinion: 99 Revolutions is such a bad, bad opener- worst Green Day opener IMO. Crappy song, terrible lyrics, bland instrumentals and builds no tension. There are songs from the Trilogy that would make much better openers, Let Yourself Go and Dirty Rotten Bastards would've made amazing openers.

The only issue I have with it is the repeating of "99 revolutions tonight" endlessly, but on the whole, I think it ended up working out well for the "new vibe", straightforward rock Green Day. Wouldn't have been my first choice for an opener from the trilogy for sure.

First of all, it's not an over-used meme at all.I made it myself using memegenerator.net.Now see my apathy?I make a meme with so much hardwork and you bash it? And about me being from India, trust me, there is no langauge barrier like you're sugesting. If there was, you won't understand anything I would be writing. I read the thread again and I realize I may have been a bit rough on you.I'm truly sorry if it hurt you.I have been bashed so many times on this thread for my unpopular opinions that I take anything slightly offensive in a wrong way.In the real world, I'm a humble person.I don't see dickheads there who say shit for no reason. Once again, I truly apologise, especially for my diaper comment, trust me I didn't mean it, and also the you being mod one.I misunderstood you.But then, you were a bit on the wrong path too with your green day fans thing. And if you don't like a few songs, you can be humble with your opinions, not so rude.Didn't like 21 Guns, I think saying "I don't like 21 guns" is much better than "21 guns is horseshit" Anyways,I'd love to meet you if you come to India someday Here's something that's probably an unpopular opinion: 99 Revolutions is such a bad, bad opener- worst Green Day opener IMO. Crappy song, terrible lyrics, bland instrumentals and builds no tension. There are songs from the Trilogy that would make much better openers, Let Yourself Go and Dirty Rotten Bastards would've made amazing openers. I couldn't agree more.No doubt it's a good song, but definitely not a good opener.I would prefer DRB or SWTRLF as they get the audience charged.

Akshat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 What about Stop When The Red Lights Flash? I thaught the only thing good thing about that song is it's opening
Sir Psycho Sexy Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I hated that song prior to the tour and now because of how awesome it was live, I love it! Yeah at first nobody sings "I'll make you surrender" but second time everyone sings it
Hermione Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Oh my god yeah! When I saw them live last year I hadn't listened to recordings of the new songs yet so the first time I heard Stop When The Red Lights Flash was at the show. Didn't matter, everyone was going mad and singing along with the chorus in no time. Such a great live song! I actually don't understand why it's one of the least liked songs on Dos (I remember when there was a poll of favourite Dos songs it was right down at the bottom). It's so catchy and fabulously sleazy, definitely one of my favourites on there.
Cath Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Last year we had a epic voting battle between all the Green Day songs to find out which was GDC's favourite. We disqualified Jesus Of Suburbia because that had already won when we did the same thing a couple of years before, but out of all the rest Letterbomb won the vote. DookieLukie Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 21st CB is a better album than Dookie. Please be trolling...
