Jon Benjamin Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I mainly hated it because they didn't use my question in it.I forgot to ask one ha
Eva Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Six years old?? C'mon...you can't possibly argue that you remember what you heard when you were 6 years old. I'm not an elitist. I love all of Green Day's work. I'm just saying that at the heart of Green Day is albums like Dookie, Insomniac, and AI. It doesn't matter when you become a fan. I'll admit that I became a fan when I heard Blvd of Broken Dreams. Now I'm not that big into that song, but Blvd was a gateway for me to dig deeper and find the true Green Day sound and "magic" if you will. 21CB is good and all, I just don't think the serious attitude and operatic style really demonstrates who Green Day is as a band, if that makes any sense. If it's your gateway to dig deeper into GD's discography, then great! That's wonderful, really! I just don't think it's Green Day's greatest work or an album that will come to mind 25 years from now when someone says "Green Day." No need to get so angry. I was making a sarcastic joke. Um, yes, I can say I remember what I heard when I was six years old because I do remember what I heard when I was six years old. My step-brother was 13 years old, he liked punk rock, and he listened to Kerplunk. I followed him around like he was a God because he was my big brother, so I also heard Kerplunk. I love how you're picking out what parts of my childhood I do and don't remember, by the way. Good on you. Solid argument. (That was sarcasm. Please do not thing I am actually praising you.) I'm not mad at your for not liking 21st Century Breakdown. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I'm not a tyrant. However, I don't like the condescending attitude you have towards the album and its significance. Why does it matter to you whether someone loves 21 Guns or discovered Green Day through 21st Century Breakdown? It shouldn't, and if it does, I'm sorry, buddy, you're an elitist. Also, I was not angry. I was making an argument, and just because I didn't use a ton of emoticons at the end and say "no offensive, dude" doesn't mean I'm angry. *I am not angry right now, either. In case you're wondering.*

Eva Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 You're offended that I'm speaking in a condescending manner about an album? You find that insulting that I'm mocking a piece of plastic with sounds on it? Ok then. What part of "I am not angry" did you not understand? Why do you think I'm offended? I'm not offended at all. You, my friend, need to work on your logical skills because they are, as of now, extremely flawed.

Which means that it upsets you that I am criticizing a disc with sounds on it.
Cath Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 can you bring that in PM and stop arguing here thanks. here's my unpopular opinion; i really like Misery and Desensitized, but the beginnings just kinda turn me off, especially desensitized.

Misery is absolutely amazing and I really wish they would play it live. That would be totally awesome. I agree about Desensitized, too. I've actually gotten in the habit of skipping it cause the beginning is kind of irritating.
munns6691 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 To me, 21st CB is missing the one biggest single/best song of the album
GenesisJames Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 To me, 21st CB is missing the one biggest single/best song of the album Uh, I don't think so... "See The Light"'s on there...
Z J Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Anyone have any thoughts on Green Day's best cover? My vote is for Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan originally. And don't say freakin Knowledge
Awesompawsome Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Anyone have any thoughts on Green Day's best cover? My vote is for Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan originally. And don't say freakin Knowledge I fought the law sucks in my opinion idk if that's unpopular or not but my favourite is rip this joint but all of the 21cb covers are good
Florence Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Anyone have any thoughts on Green Day's best cover? My vote is for Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan originally. Their cover of A Quick One While He's Away by The Who
Hermione Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Anyone have any thoughts on Green Day's best cover? My vote is for Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan originally. And don't say freakin Knowledge Sorry but the topic of this thread is unpopular Green Day opinions, not what's your favourite Green Day cover. Please don't try to start off topic discussions here. If you want to discuss favourite Green Day covers you should make a thread for it (there is one already but it's very old, I'm fine with a new one being started ).
musso_kn Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 21st CB is a better album than Dookie. Ooh, I'm not sure I agree. I'd say they're equal. Then again my ranking for Green Day's studio albums is as follows: 1. 39/smooth/Kerplunk/Dookie/Insomniac/Nimrod/Warning/American Idiot/21st CenturyBreakdown 2. Tre 3. Dos 4. Uno
OhNo Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 21 Guns is better than anything on Dookie besides Basket Case besides Basket Case and She. Boom.
fromdecimateddreams Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Same. I prefer 21stCB as an album over Dookie, but I wouldn't say 21 Guns alone is better than everything. Certain songs, maybe. But not the whole album.
OhNo Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I'm going to have to disagree here. Burnout? Having a Blast? Coming Clean? Nahhhhh there's no comparison. Shit, forgot about She. I'm not a fan of the three you mentioned. I would take any song of Insomniac/Nimrod over them. The only three songs I really like from Dookie are Bascet Case, She and FOD. You are correct, it's silly to compare Dookie to 21st because they are made from completely different molds. It's equivalent of saying that Jack Daniel's is better than Heineken.
Guest Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I forgot to add Last Night on Earth Ok. 21 Guns: Boring, unoriginal sound. American Idiot called. It wants "Wake Me Up When September Ends" back. Before the Lobotomy: Not terrible, but not great. One of 21CB's better efforts, but pales in comparison to, you know, everything on AI. EJN: American Idiot called. It wants "Holiday" back. 21CB: Queen called. They want "Bohemian Rhapsody" back. Last of the American Girls: Derivative, boring pop track. It sucks. VLG: Unoriginal. Abuses the soft/hard motif. Generic 21CB sound that just blends in with everything else and doesn't stand out at all. Little Girl: Boring, unoriginal. Static Age: American Idiot called. It wants "Letterbomb" back. See the Light: American Idiot called. It wants "Whatsername" back. Know Your Enemy: Fuck this shitty-ass, stupid as fuck, horse shit lyrics, painfully canned and generic song. 21CB's worst, and that's saying something. I'm kind of surprised by your choices here. There's one really exceptional track on 21CB, that being American Eulogy, which is one of the best songs Green Day has ever written. To see that and the also-great Horseshoes and Handgrenades left off of this list, with shit like LOTAG, STL and KYE on it, leaves me doubting my faith in Green Day fans.
Cath Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 totally agree with American Eulogy. probably my favorite gd song just after Jesus of Suburbia, along with She. all is just perfect in this song, and so are the lyrics. and at the end when the backvocals are singing 'i don't wanna live in the modern world' and Billie's singing 'mass histeria' is epic.
Akshat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Ok. 21 Guns: Boring, unoriginal sound. American Idiot called. It wants "Wake Me Up When September Ends" back. So it's good to not like a few songs. But calling them Shitty Ass and Horse Shit is highly unacceptable. What makes you think they are terrible songs? What you just said is so hypocritical. You hate the fact that EJN,21st CB,21 Guns and a lot of other songs are basically derivitive,But what about American Eulogy, the song you so love? Isn't it made to the tune of Deadbeat Holiday? And even if they are, then how does it affect the nature of the song. Tbh, who are you to doubt the faith of other Green Day fans?Whatever people like is their choice. It's not like you were born to with an exceptional taste in music and everything you like is good and everything you don't is shit.21st Century Breakdown is an amazing album. It took them a long time to record it and they put a lot of effort there.Green Day would be so pissed if they read what you just wrote
Cath Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Green Day would be so pissed if they read what you just wrote first they will probably never read this and second they don't give a damn. i don't agree with the way he thinks too, but i won't argue because it's his own opinion and it won't change whatever we can say.
Akshat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 first they will probably never read this and second they don't give a damn. Did you read the words 'would' and 'if' ?
