beejeezee Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I'm pretty sure this counts as an unpopular opinion, I really really hate this thread.
beejeezee Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 why? Because people in here nitpick every fucking little thing they can. It gets ridiculose sometimes.
Florence Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Because people in here nitpick every fucking little thing they can. It gets ridiculous sometimes. THIS. My unpopular opinion: I love all their songs & albums. There are songs I love more than others but I don't hate any. Seems to be an unpopular opinion
MaraGreenDay Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 THIS. My unpopular opinion: I love all their songs & albums. There are songs I love more than others but I don't hate any. Seems to be an unpopular opinion I'm with you Flo!

Seems to be an unpopular opinion I mean shit some of you hate on Green Day so much, I thought you were fans? This is a Green Day forum why the fuck are you here then?

(in case you couldn't tell I was talking about Nightlife)
Chelsee Angevine Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yes, I am a Green Day fan. Yes, I hate a ton of their work. Yes, I am on this forum. Breakin' all the rules.

Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 so to be a fan, it means you must love every single thing they do well apparently i am not a fan of anything ever even my favourite film i can't be a fan of because it has flaws oh dear how dreadful of me how awful of a human being i must be. i am sorry i don't want to lick billies face every time he screams THIS IS JOY and thank tre for every stupid face he makes at the camera.
Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Oh yeah, that reminds me. Unpopular opinion: Billie is definitely back on coke. Or something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_llPWUmMvk
SumDay Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 My unpopular opinion: I love all their songs & albums. There are songs I love more than others but I don't hate any. Seems to be an unpopular opinion Uh yeha. You could split this community into two halfs: The fans that love everything Green Day does (kinda like the true definiton of a fan?!) And that kind of "fans" who never really say that they like something. It SEEMS (!) Like they hate everything. Being a fan of something isn't about liking everything they do, but it's about supporting. And saying that something is shit isn't that supporting you know. I don't say that you have to like everything they do just because you're in this forum. But you should like them a little bit. Here are some user, who never say something positive about GD. That's at least how it feels like.
Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Unpopular opinion: Green Day are a bit rubbish, aren't they?
Hermione Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 The way I see it there's nothing wrong with liking everything/nearly everything Green Day do and there's nothing wrong with not liking everything they do. It's people thinking either liking everything or not liking everything makes them cool or superior that's pathetic. "I love everything Green Day do and if you don't you're not a real fan" = lame. "Look how much I dislike about Green Day, I'm so cool because I'm not a fangirl" = lame. The amount you like or dislike something isn't something that makes you cool.
Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 i can't tell if the dude above me is joking or not but i agree. i love that song and it's the only one on the album to make me genuinely excited.
Sir Psycho Sexy Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 i can't tell if the dude above me is joking or not but i agree. i love that song and it's the only one on the album to make me genuinely excited. I really think that. It's somehow similar to American Idiot. "Don't wanna be an American Idiot" and "Do you know your ENEMY?!"
Z J Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Because we don't blindly worship every single shit that drops out of Billie's arse as if it was a golden message of bliss from the Lord himself? (in case you couldn't tell I was talking about Nightlife) Exactly. Green Day is an entity that covers multiple sub-genres of rock n roll and because of the diversity in their music, peoples' opinions will be split on certain aspects of the bands. There is no need for one unified love of Green Day and everything they do. Know Your Enemy is the best song 21stCB And in my opinion...saying that is insulting to the rest of the album
olstjimmy Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 To follow on this, you can be a fan and still notice flaws things... I've been a fan of Green Day for 13 years. And I'm pretty sure I STILL haven't listened to all of 21st Century Breakdown. Or the trilogy. Even though I own them. And I quite like them. Also I don't find Billie Joe attractive [AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I KNOW RIGHT?!]. Sometimes, even seeing them live [which I've been doing since 2005], I get fed up of Billie just deteriorating further and further away from the songs he's meant to be playing. And it makes me feel bad for the rest of the band, 'cos at times I've just seen them standing [or sitting] like, just staring at him like "when do we continue the song?" I just worry that the power he can hold over a crowd goes too much to his head sometimes.

And if you read reviews from the 99 Revolutions tour, they are raving. There is not a real issue in the amount of crowd interaction. It only appears that way to us (big fans) because we've seen a lot of shows on youtube or live

Also I'm sure they are worked out but some of them do seem a lot just like Billie raving... Apart from obvious breaks such as in King For A Day or when bringing people onstage or playing with tshirt/toilet roll/throwy-to-crowd things
DookieLukie Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 While I agree that is is perfectly ok to love everything they do or dislike certain things, I think it is really healthy to have an open mind and criticize. We all idolize Green Day, but good criticism is healthy. The fact of the matter is that not everything Green Day has made has been incredible. I like mostly everything for what it has to offer, but criticism helps not only the band to improve, but it also is good discipline in finding your "niche" in music. You say "Hey I don't like that" or "Wow that's really cool" and those moments lead you to explore other kinds of music/artists. It's he same way with politics, religion, etc. Criticism is necessary.
munns6691 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I wonder if this person just wants rare songs in general I have no idea what happened here.. Lmao

Another person might argue that music exists for the artist to express themselves and for us to enjoy, so it's better to just look for enjoyment in the bits you can and ignore the rest. Or it might be better to find a balance between that and being more critical. I don't think either way of looking at it is healthier than the other really, just depends on how you prefer to look at music.

Lol it's not like the band is going to read this thread. Suddenly.... Billie Joe appears, reads "Know Your Enemy is the worst song ever written" and decides he will never write a song like that no. Because we don't blindly worship every single shit that drops out of Billie's arse as if it was a golden message of bliss from the Lord himself? I do. Problem? It just annoys me that this thread has become a "Green Day bashing" thread 90% of the time
