I could post some of the lyrics to The Forgotten on here and you guys would probably have the same reaction as me: "Really?" They are not good. Oh Love is solid. Not the best of the trilogy. Not the worst.

The lyrics were really deep.Idk but to me they sounded really good.

ugh you're making me do this.

Don’t look away from the arms of a moment

Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow

Don’t look away from the arms of a moment

Don’t look away from the arms of love

(^^^repeated twice)

Well don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream

(^^ Repeated 3 times)

I don't like the rest of the lyrics because quite frankly I've no clue what "the forgotten" is supposed to be about. But that is my own problem. However the lyrics I just posted are, in my opinion, cheesy.

I love those lyrics. To me they're about taking life as it comes, and especially about not being afraid of accepting love from others. There's nothing cheesy about that at all, in my opinion based on my own life experiences. It's fine if you find them cheesy, but I think you're going to have to accept that other people have different perspectives and actually connect with and enjoy the lyrics.

And as I said, that is fine. I'm sure I enjoy I song that you don't like. If the song means something to you, then I'm not going to tell you it shouldn't. It's music. Means different things to everyone.

1039SOSH is their worst album. I probably hate more than half of the songs. Rest is fucking terrible.

I love the piano opening to Viva La Gloria, and I thin that 21 Century Breakdown is some of their best work.

Oh ya, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams is the worst song Billie Joe has ever written.

21st Century Breakdown is better than American Idiot. There, I said it.

I don't see anything wrong with those lyrics -_- :P

Except you didn't say that was fine. You just said you thought it was all cheesy so yeah. Anyway, your post that I just quoted basically reiterated my point so I suppose at this point we're in agreement.

You're right I didn't explain my self very well. I think they're cheesy but if you connect with the lyric then there is reason for you to believe otherwise. I didn't mean to sound like I was refusing to see anyone else's perspective. That would defeat the purpose of coming here!

On the topic of The Forgotten; this may not exactly be an "unpopular" opinion, but I think it'd be more suitable for 21st Century Breakdown, maybe towards the end of the album.

People hate Oh love mostly because it didn't do well at the charts(stupid reason to hate)

I sorta disagree. I look at it the other way around. I think it didn't do well on the charts because people hated Oh Love. When the lyric video first came out, I noticed a significant amount of people weren't down with Oh Love. It's a good song, but it wasn't the best idea for a first single. Let alone not their best comeback song. Oh Love's mid tempo, it's repetition, it's length...After all that big rock opera stuff happened, it just wasn't good timing to put such a song out as the first single. It's great in context of the album. It's a great closing track, but I wouldn't say first single. I have no idea what I'm talking about by the way.

I think Blvd. of Broken Dreams is a great song, just overplayed to the point in which it sounds like static to us, and therefore has lost its flare.

I don't like the Forgotten. I think the Twilight music video added a bad connotation to it, but overall the real reason is that it just seems to cheesy. It's just not that catchy or as grand as I expected. Last Night on Earth was great, but the Forgotten seems like a watered down version of that. Idk...not a fan of it.

I'm not a fan of The Forgotten either. The lyrics (to me) seem shallow and cheesy, like Billie was reaching for something really motivational and inspiring but it wasn't quite there, y'know? The instrumentals bore me,too. I love piano and piano compositions, but the piece is repetitive and it doesn't keep me interested for more than a few seconds.

I do want to say this though: If you dislike the song just because it was on the Twilight soundtrack, please stop and think of another reason to dislike it. I understand if you don't like the movie, because I sure don't like it, but the soundtracks are pretty decent and in the long run, does it really matter? Hate it or like it because you hate or like the song, not because it makes Green Day a sellout or makes you think of those dumb shiny vampires that you hate.

I think Rusty James would be perfect on American Idiot between Homecoming and Whatsername. "Where the hell is the old gang at?" (the Underbelly, Whatsername, St. Jimmy)

21st Century breakdown is an incredibly underrated album and actually comes close to American Idiot (Not quite there though). Songs like Last Night on Earth, 21 Cb, Static Age, Before the Lobotomy, Viva La Gloria!, and 21 guns (yes, even 21 guns) are just great pieces of music. Nothing can top AI, but I think 21 cb is their 2nd best album.

I was extremerly disappointed with Oh Love as a comeback song. It didn't have half the impact American Idiot or Know Your Enemy did. It didn't make me scream "Hell yea, Green Day are back bitches!!!" and I didn't like that :(

Amen. As I said in another thread a while ago, when I first heard Oh Love play at work I was like "Why don't these guys just give up?" to a customer. Love 'em, but they could so do better. Or at least something more original...

Oh Love isn't a bad song. But I agree it didn't need to be the first single.

What song should have been?

X-Kid?

Rusty James?

Stay the Night?

Brutal Love?

Missing You?

I think Stay the Night.

It's catchy and upbeat, and it's pretty much perfect radio material. I think it would have caught on quickly in the media and probably would have helped the commercial success of the trilogy a lot. It could probably have a pretty decent video to go with it, too.

well it'd probably have to be off of Uno and I think Nuclear Family would've been perfect. Radio friendly but with the typical Green Day sound

Let me respond. First of all, just bc you know the lyrics of a song does not make it a good song. Secondly, I noticed that all four people who just disagreed with me are girls. Interesting. I've never met a normal girl Green Day fan. Usually a fangirl who loves AI or an emo girl.

Basically, girls have terrible taste when it comes to music (and mostly everything else).

WOW.
