Clockwise Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 /> The joy thing was rather weird, to be honest. Is it just me, or did the 21CB tour have more banter? Like..fun banter. Yeah but most of the time it's scripted. He usually says the same things at the same time at every concert right? I wouldn't say it's scripted. It's at the same time, but each show he does a different variation of the speech.
stories and songs Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 i actually don't remember at all what he said during his letterbomb speech at the show i went to, if that tells you anything. i'm not really sure what he's trying to achieve with it other than hey we're all happy together right now and that's all that matters but i don't know that he's getting the point across very well. i always really loved the little speech he did a few years ago during viva la gloria and he just said something about "it's about nights like this to create memories like this" and during stay the night from the echoplex whenever he said "what's wrong with this picture? there's absolutely nothing wrong with this picture". i really think little things like that just said in the moment come across a lot more "real" and meaningful than him screaming joy twenty times in a row and talking about shitty jobs. Yeah, exactly. I feel like I sorta understand what he's trying to say but maybe it isn't coming across in the right way. That, or he's saying exactly what he means to and I'm just reaching. But as others have said, when he says this stuff he's wrapped up in the moment and shouldn't be expected to make totally coherent statements, which I agree with. I agree that I like the quick little comments, because they feel more genuine. When he goes off on little speech-rants that are basically scheduled into the show, though? Meh. I really used to think the things he said were empowering/inspiring/cool, but this tour I just haven't been feeling it. It was the shitty job speech that kinda made me realize I haven't liked what he's been saying all that much. Because that whole thing was just a bit... I don't know. I love that he tries to connect with the audience on a personal level (and he DOES connect very well, always), but that speech rang rather false. Because while the band is just like us in MANY ways and they are regular people, that is one thing they don't have in common with us - having to go to shitty jobs and shitty classrooms. Now I'm ranting. I'm sorry.

Z J Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 What I take away from his speeches about enjoying life is that he is appreciating life after getting out of rehab. Anyone remember how he got on his knees at the first concert back and let the crowd sing during BOBD? That told me that this time around he's really making sure he is enjoying the moment. After his rehab stint it seems like he's trying to appreciate things more and wants people to enjoy the experience with the band. People have died doing less than what it appears BJA did. Perhaps he realizes this.
99-revolutions Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 /> Sorry mate I accidentally just pissed my pants laughing at this. Sometimes I hate you Céadóg but everytime you redeem yourself

DannyDirnt Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Isn't it supposed to be sarcastic? Like he's saying "I hope you had the time of your life" as in "I hope you enjoyed treating me like shit". Or that's what I've always assumed, anyway. That's such a great interpretation! That way, the song is much cooler

They do have that in common with us, it's just different. There's pros and cons with every job, like the press is probably their equivalent of our offices, and fame in general will be their equivalent of controlling bosses. Maybe not exactly that, but something along those lines, anyway. I don't think I'd want their jobs to be honest, because fame is kind of shitty But yeah, I do agree that the speech sounds a bit forced, especially when it's the same every night. I don't mind it though.
Iain Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Speech or not, I think it's what Billie Joe actually thinks and means. So whether it's part of the act or not (since it's routine), I think it's what he genuinely thinks, and that's what matters to me.
munns6691 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzQ53jz3r30 this is from before they added the long pauses in Letterbomb. I like this better.
Hermione Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That's such a great interpretation! That way, the song is much cooler That's why it's called "Good Riddance", that means "I'm glad you're gone"/"I'm happy to be rid of you"
RokketQueen Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 So after watching some of the recent concert videos, I have to say that I think I prefer pre rehab Billie Joe to post rehab. He seems subdued, for lack of a better word. Don't get me wrong...I'm glad he's gotten himself clean and sober. Just something I noticed and thought would go well in this thread.

Yes because the IHEARTRadio thing went over quite well

I actually think he seems happier on this tour. I mean, not that he wasn't before, but the way he interacted with the crowd and just his general aura at the two shows I went to just seemed so much healthier and better, and almost made it more enjoyable to me personally. I dunno, I'm just really glad he decided to clean up. I think it's better for everybody involved.
Akshat Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I really don't understand the hate behind The Forgotten and Oh Love.
Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I really don't understand the hate behind The Forgotten and Oh Love. I love Oh Love, but The Forgotten is cheesy and dull and best left forgotten along with other trilogy duds, like Angel Blue, Baby Eyes, and Sex Drugs & Violence. c wat i did der?
Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Also, do you like have a special sniffer so that whenever someone says they like "The Forgotten" you can pick up the scent of it and come lambast them? Nah I just follow this thread so I can come in here and tell people they're fucking idiots
Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Ceadog you're mean I'm gonna cry to my mommy. Wait did Mia learn how to type I'm confused.
Akshat Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Same here. Let's be friends Yes. People hate Oh love mostly because it didn't do well at the charts(stupid reason to hate) Te Forgotten because it was featured in twilight and 'slow' I love Oh Love, but The Forgotten is cheesy and dull and best left forgotten along with other trilogy duds, like Angel Blue, Baby Eyes, and Sex Drugs & Violence. c wat i did der? I already discussed The Forgotten with you some time back
Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 No, but if she could type that's what she would have said. Nah, she would have cussed me out of it, and you know it.
Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 "Listen here you lil shithead, take a big step back and literally fuck yer own face." ~ Actual quote from Mia. Isn't she wonderful Best mother
fromdecimateddreams Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I really don't understand the hate behind The Forgotten and Oh Love. I actually really like Oh Love, too. The Forgotten I'm a bit iffy about, like I don't really care to listen to it that much but it's such a beautiful song to play on the piano so I like doing that, so idk. I'm kind of indifferent for the most part.

A lot of hype was created around The Forgotten, after it was included in the Twilight Soundtrack and in that episode of CSI NY.Maybe it did not live up to people's expectations.
