Guest Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 The song is good. The lyrics sound like he drank 14 pints of Stella then wrote random sentences on beer coaster until he had enough for a 9 minute song and then lost half of them. best describe of DRB i've ever read.
Iain Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 The song is good. The lyrics sound like he drank 14 pints of Stella then wrote random sentences on beer coaster until he had enough for a 9 minute song and then lost half of them. Pretty legit. I can see where you're coming from, but the song itself is an absolute thrill ride but crashes at the end. Then again, maybe DRB is a representative of the Trilogy as a whole(?), by starting off from a decent tempo, then goes absolutely insane and then crashes a la a hangover. Maybe that's what it's all about? Goes up to a high and then burns out?
JOE THE X-KID Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 And the award for Ignorant post of the year goes to.... I'll leave it there. Looks like he's already been flamed enough. I was listening to Nimord earlier, and I don't think I fully appreciated the awesomeness that is Last Ride In. Some GD fans I know slag it off due to the lack of lyrics, but it's a fantastic piece of music. Always puts me in a nice chilled out vibe. it's terrible that someone would dislike a piece of music because it has no vocals, when you think about it they're pieces of art and should be respected at least.

munns6691 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 DRB just doesn't really do it for me. I like how it starts but after the second verse it loses me. Probably because I feel it lacks true meaning
deletethisaccount Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I think the intro of Dirty Rotten Bastards is pretty rad, and of course I like the fast bit, but that's it for me. I'm not a fan of the transitions to each section of the song. They're just too sudden to me. Just an immediate AAAHHTEMPOCHANGE it seems. Maybe other people find a charm in that. It's a pretty good song still. I feel most of the transitions in Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming were a lot more seamless.
Spoopy Doo Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 As long as I'm on the topic, Minority is the most overrated GD song out there. And yes, I'm completely serious. (someone's gonna reach through my computer and stab me) I'm not gonna stab you, Minority is pretty overrated, but I think the title for Most Overrated Green Day Song goes to Good Riddance. :/
munns6691 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I'm not gonna stab you, Minority is pretty overrated, but I think the title for Most Overrated Green Day Song goes to Good Riddance. :/ See I don't think Good Riddance is overrated, I think Longview might get my vote for most overrated.
Caractériel Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Speaking about Billie's crowd interaction, the only thing I dislike is when Billie says that they're gonna play all night along when we all know that that isn't true. To be fair, they're aren't many bands that play a headline set that goes on for almost 3 hours, so yeah technically they don't play 'all night long' but we sure as hell get value for money when it comes to the length of the set. On the subject of Minority and DRB. Minority is so much better live, it's hard to get in to the studio version. I sill love it when it comes on the jukebox in my local pub though. DRB is a decent song, but I think some of the transitions are a bit too quick and forced. I've no problem with the lyrics, but I'd love to hear a full version of the opening part as a separate song. Juliana Homicide could also be a song in it's own right. I'm not really into the 'We're carried away' part, but it's by no means a weak or bad song in my opinion. But hey, we all have different tastes
Anaïs. Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 See I don't think Good Riddance is overrated, I think Longview might get my vote for most overrated. But...the bassline!
Z J Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I don't blame anyone for holding anything against 21 guns, with all of its negative (undeserved) connotations, but the live version on the Awesome as Fuck CD (Not DVD) is one of their best performances of a song I have ever heard, same can be a said for a lot of the songs on that CD. The piano is so good and BJA shows incredible vocal ability.
munns6691 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 But...the bassline! Bassline is nice and incredibly catchy, I just think the song as a whole can be boring at times, I don't think it's a bad song, just not one of Green Day's best singles, let alone songs. Is Kill the DJ considered a single? Brain Stew is their worst single.
DookieLukie Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 See I don't think Good Riddance is overrated, I think Longview might get my vote for most overrated. Eeek. I love Longview. I don't like it live, but it's so raw on Dookie and has a really good mix of instrumentation (like...each instrument shines through at some point). Bassline is nice and incredibly catchy, I just think the song as a whole can be boring at times, I don't think it's a bad song, just not one of Green Day's best singles, let alone songs. Is Kill the DJ considered a single? Brain Stew is their worst single. Kill the DJ was a European single. It charted, so I'd call that a single. But with the Trilogy, who really knows. lol
munns6691 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Okay okay, I actually take back saying Longview is their most overrated because I do like it, I just find myself skipping it from time to time. So with that said I'll open the floor: What is Green Day's most overrated song?

So with that said I'll open the floor: What is Green Day's most overrated song? god this is a difficult question. I know what everyone's answers will be. Good Riddance, 21 guns, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, WMUWSE. I think these songs get that label bc they are so popular but honestly I think they are really good songs but they have been played to the point where certain fans hate them. That's unfortunate. For me it's a tough choice because the obvious songs are ones that I actually like. I guess I'd have to say Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I think it's a fantastic song but its Green Day's best selling song which should mean its their best song. I don't believe it is. So i guess that's a roundabout way of saying its overrated know your enemy this was option number 2. decent song but it was the 2nd most popular off of 21cb. Was it the second best? No.
tdlyon Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Most overrated is When I Come Around. I barely even like it.
stories and songs Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Billie's Letterbomb speeches during this tour are just weird. I don't care for them at all. Basically his speeches just sound to me like, "Hey our lives all suck, but let's be happy for a few hours together," and that just doesn't do it for me. I feel like it's supposed to be an inspiring "live in the moment" kind of speech, and it always sorta misses the mark and winds up sounding more negative than positive. I don't know. I feel like this is a really unpopular opinion.

I liked the one at my show because it was on Easter and he was talking about how "he has risen, we have all risen" and while the crazy ass protesters outside the venue probably would have hated that he ~compared himself to Jesus~ I think it was a nice, poignant and powerful comment on where he's come from and will go. Oh, and I'll second the Minority distain. Don't hate it, don't need it to be in the sets all the time anymore because they do have a lot better.

heart on a noose Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 To be fair, they're aren't many bands that play a headline set that goes on for almost 3 hours, so yeah technically they don't play 'all night long' but we sure as hell get value for money when it comes to the length of the set. I know that and I'm more than thankful! I wasn't seriously complaining, the post was made as a joke! It's obvious that they can't play all night long and it would be stupid of us to even expect that in a first place. I think that's meant to be kind of a knowing little joke and shared bit of wishful thinking between the band and the crowd. What they're really saying is "We'd love to play all night and we know you'd love it too, wouldn't it be great if we could!", they're sharing a little bond with us in that we're all wishing for the same thing and in that we all know it's really just a tease. I think it's sweet When you say it like that, I does sound sweet!
Hermione Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I've never really taken what Billie says in his speeches/rants that seriously . He's caught up in the emotion of the show and pouring his heart out, it's never gonna be that well thought out. He's putting all his passion into saying something positive, might not always come out that coherently but I can't complain about him doing that.
Chelsee Angevine Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Most overrated song? Good Riddance tied with Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Good Riddance probably just from overplayed-ness. It was a good ass song when I was... 7. BOBD has always made me cringe. Bores me out of my mind and I can't even stomach it when it comes on the radio anymore. Maybe I'll try listening to it when I have trouble sleeping...
DookieLukie Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 i actually don't remember at all what he said during his letterbomb speech at the show i went to, if that tells you anything. i'm not really sure what he's trying to achieve with it other than hey we're all happy together right now and that's all that matters but i don't know that he's getting the point across very well. i always really loved the little speech he did a few years ago during viva la gloria and he just said something about "it's about nights like this to create memories like this" and during stay the night from the echoplex whenever he said "what's wrong with this picture? there's absolutely nothing wrong with this picture". i really think little things like that just said in the moment come across a lot more "real" and meaningful than him screaming joy twenty times in a row and talking about shitty jobs. The joy thing was rather weird, to be honest. Is it just me, or did the 21CB tour have more banter? Like..fun banter. I've never really taken what Billie says in his speeches/rants that seriously . He usually says the same things at the same time at every concert right?
