Z J Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Since this now appears to be an unpopular opinion I guess I'll post it: The reason Mike doesn't sing more is because he is a bad singer. Not much range is apparent in his verses, his tone never really varies, and he doesn't have much carry on his notes.

WhiteTim Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Listen from 1 minute in, and tell me Mike can't sing. He doesnt have a bad voice he's great at doing background vocals but doing lead vocals imo just not that great still he is a very talented musician
olstjimmy Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 He doesnt have a bad voice he's great at doing background vocals but doing lead vocals imo just not that great still he is a very talented musician Basically I feel what everyone's saying [that i agree with] is that Mike Dirnt is a talented bassist, and he does have a nice voice for back up vocals, but for Green Day itself, he wouldn't make the best lead singer and that's why he doesn't sing any songs on lead vocals. Though if he made his own hardcore punk rock band and sang I'd be down to listen to that

I think to say Mike is a bad singer is overruling the fact that no one needs to sing well to be sing in any band for any reason. John Lydon was barely even sung and they topped the charts and created the music we are all listening to now. It just all depends on who you sing for - what crowd, and what sort of people. To play at iHeart Radio was a big mistake.
HolyHandGrenade Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I acknowledge Jesus of Suburbia as Green Day's best song, but I would rather listen to Homecoming. It was the song that made me fall in love with Green Day, it has one of the best intros of any GD song, and Billie, Mike and Tre all sing! It pains me that they seem to have abandoned it live. Even a 1/5 replacement rate with JoS for the encore would make me happy. (I still LOVE JoS)

It's the perfect climax to such a rock opera.

Yes, the song has so much more power with the retrospective verse from Nobody Likes You at the end rather than just ending with the 20th "We're coming home again"
munns6691 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 ........I don't like Christie Road........ I skip it at least 8/10 times Is that because you have the Kerplunk version? Get the verison from their Comp'd show

Davis Weiss Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Is that because you have the Kerplunk version? Get the verison from their Comp'd show where would one find this?
munns6691 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 where would one find this? It may be on mp3hamster but if not you can use the website that takes youtube urls and makes them mp3s. Note: I've used both methods numerous times and it has had no negative affect on my computers, so they're safe

Listen carefully to backing vocals in acapella (specially from AI on) and you'll realise you're thoroughly wrong.
Z J Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Listen from 1 minute in, and tell me Mike can't sing. All he does in this is backing vocals? And they are fine. Doesn't make him a lead singer. I'll counter with this video...go to about 4:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBeUDqJI5y8

Can't blame the man for trying; and by the way, playing the guitar AND singing takes talent. It's fuck hard (at least from my experience).
Chelsee Angevine Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 @all the Mike posts: I don't know if he "can sing" or not and frankly I don't care. My point was that he has the voice for a punk sound, which as previously stated, doesn't necessarily have to be "good." I do prefer Billie based on his stage presence and what the hell Mike isn't much of a looker but I would love to know what that man could do as the lead singer of some of the darker songs. Also also I wish Homecoming had a video like JoS. Definitely felt that song way harder. Aaaaand apart from that song, I hate when Tre sings. Skip that shit every time.
WhiteTim Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Mike sings lead on "Governator" and does swell, all of you haters can gtfo. Which wasnt that great of a song
Guest Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Mike sings lead on "Governator" and does swell, all of you haters can gtfo. fuckin perfect song i need to hear it live, it'll never happen but shit, one of my favourite GD songs.
WhiteTim Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I love it. One of my faves. Mike's voice is unfffffff. And I like the songs that he sings for The Network too, his voice is just really unique and adds a cool vibe to the songs. Yeah musically i couldnt get into network same with governator lyrically (and vocally) its good for some reason cant get into the music to the song The network should ditch the f grade devo and turn into just straight hard punk which Mike would excel at
WhiteTim Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 You just need to put aside the fact that The Network is Green Day and just have fun listening to it. It'll be more enjoyable Yeah I've tried aside from one or two tracks cant stand network But others do and that's cool
WhiteTim Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Which ones do you like out of curiosity? Forget when i get home ill checkthe i dont have the names memorized
Iain Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Mike sings lead on "Governator" and does swell, all of you haters can gtfo. Pic related.
WhiteTim Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Be sure to let me know, I'm interested to know what stuck out to you. Spike and Roshambo
munns6691 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Mike doesn't sing because he does not want to. Mike is the one who made billie the lead singer when Billie didn't want to.
