Tubbie Head Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 At one of the shows a group of people should try to get the crowd to start doing the DRB "Yeahs" from the beginning of the song and maybe they will play it if they hear it THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA!
DecanoLP Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Watching cuatro kind of made me pissed off at the boys because so many of the trilogy's songs are amazing live. 8th ave. serenade, Kill the Dj, Makeout Party, Loss of Control. I just wish they would stop holding back on such great live songs. That's what I thought as well. Loss of Control and Lazy Bones ROCKED, play them!
TimmyChunks Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I agree. I legitimately think we're so spoiled as fans... Every other concert I've gone to, I can look up the setlist online prior to the show and memorize it. No surprises, nothing. At least, with Green Day, I had several surprises during my show in Pittsburgh... Good Riddance being one of them. Yes, a song that's been overplayed a bajillion times made me happier than any new song that was played that night, even songs like Stay the Night and X-Kid that I expected would blow me away. They were good, but simply playing all new songs isn't feasible. No matter how well the albums sold, so I don't even buy that argument half the time. Simply put, a song that's been out for a decade is going to resonate with more people than a song that's been out less than a year. And for people who are going to their first concert, the band still has to cater to them. It isn't just about appealing to the whiny people who are lucky enough to go to several shows every year and who get bored with the setlist. Because most people (like me) aren't that lucky. Hell, if the shows with "shitty" setlists are so boring, I'll gladly take your tickets... I just can't fathom how any Green Day show could ever be boring to someone... You think so? I feel like everyone is all "le gasp, the arena is empty!" when really they're looking at the pit being half-empty due to fire regulations... The only show I heard was really bad was Moline... were there others? Unfortunately, Providence will be pretty bad attendance wise tonight, but that's largely due to the fact that a) they played a show 60 miles away at a casino on Saturday (for the casual fan who attends one show, it's kind of a no-brainer which show of the two you'd choose!) and b) it's a Tuesday. As far as the whole setlist discussion goes, I'm totally fine with it. Being a big Phish fan as well (I wonder how many Phish/ Green Day fans exist? Can't be many- I haven't seen much overlap in the fanbases at all), I can say that it's incredible how Phish completely changes their setlist show to show. You never know what you're going to get, and that's part of what's really special about them. However, they're a jam band, and it's a completely different situation. Would I love it if Green Day took the same approach? Of course. However, as far as true rock bands go, Green Day's setlist is more dynamic than most, with the exception of Pearl Jam. However, Pearl Jam hasn't been touring all that much recently, and when they do, they seem to be pretty limited runs, so they're probably not a very good comparison, either.

The only show I heard was really bad was Moline... were there others? Well, that's why I put it in the "wouldn't be surprised" category, not an outright expectation. I'm not necessarily talking about the pit, because like you said, a lot of that is perception and fire codes. But I feel like we do see some empty seats. Again, idk, maybe it's just wishful thinking so they'll play smaller markets or nontraditional ones. But then again, like you pointed out, Quad Cities may have been a bust, so maybe I'm wrong! (Or maybe I'm just pressed that that metropolitan area, only 135th in the nation, got a show, but Toledo, the 82nd biggest metropolitan area, can't. Yes, actually, that is it.)
Annie, get your gun Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 This is not an "expectation", but I didn't know where else to say it Just yesterday I saw they have mics for the audience on the edge of the stage I don't find it odd, but I've never seen it before. They're recording the shows? Yes, this band likes to record almost everything

I just don't understand how none of the state of Ohio warrants at least one show. Just one. It's not that hard. I mean, Columbus, Toledo, Dayton, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Akron, FUCK, just pick ONE! I just want to hear Billie say "Ohioooo!"
ZSebs Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I am sooooo disappointed that they aren't playing Dirty Rotten Bastards. Imagine, these albums all got promoted so maybe more people would know these songs, and then when Green Day plays it live, the crowd explodes into the "yeahs" in the beginning. Didn't Billie say something like that song was an arena song? Well they are playing in arenas right now, get on it boys.
Sarcasm Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I just wanna fuckin hear Nightlife When you've recorded as many songs as Green Day have, someone is always gonna be disappointed.
Guest Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I just wanna fuckin hear Nightlife You like Nightlife too or are you being sarcastic because DUDE. NIGHTLIFE. I need to hear it.
Guest Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 When you've recorded as many songs as Green Day have, someone is always gonna be disappointed. I'm just saying, they could cut Shout, and do an extended Nightlife thing instead. Or just have a sort of reggae break in the middle of the song like The Clash used to do with The Magnificent Seven and Armagideon Time. That'd be badass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh8VxP1E74w You like Nightlife too or are you being sarcastic because DUDE. NIGHTLIFE. I need to hear it. Tré in drag doing the rap parts. Everyone wants to hear that.
GuitarPunk94 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 That's what I thought as well. Loss of Control and Lazy Bones ROCKED, play them! i agree (but i can totally understand if billie doesnt want to play Lazy Bones live..) at the time of the break mike always said that he cant wait to play all these new songs live..i just dont understand them..they MUST have a 2nd tour planned and play all the new songs at this time then.. .. im glad that i was able to hear some trilogy songs at the promo tour 2012 (LYG, Oh Love, 99 Revolutions) and Fuck Time back in 2010 *_* but i rly want to hear these trilogy songs live (possibly at Rock Am Ring festival this year): -Nuclear Family,STN,Rusty James...SWTRLF,Makeout Party,Stray Heart,Wow Thats Loud,Amy...Missing You,8th Ave Serenade,X-Kid,Amanda,DRB
scottrowan200 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I think they will chane it up later ,. They did on 21cb tour. Got rare and rare tracks as tour went on. .... Tho I'm sure at the start of that tour fox theatre show ect they played more album tracks like Christians inferno and little girl. Gloria and stuff which wasn't played in Europe for example I guess more shows and more sound checks they get they will mess around and add new tracks I would rather see a new trackrather than leterbomb or murdercity There suppose to be promoting these albums
Sarcasm Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Tré in drag doing the rap parts. Everyone wants to hear that.I know, as I said just that months ago, you tool But Shout is kind of a trademark, something that isn't easily traded away. Most people on the shows see them for the first time ever.

I wasn't sure if I had read it somewhere or was having a momentary stroke of genius Meh, they've been doing Shout for 10 years now. There won't be a huge amount of people seeing them for the first time this round, not compared to the AI or 21stCB tours. People can always go watch BIAB anyway

Most people on the shows see them for the first time ever. Gotta agree there, Shout is something I really want to see. This tour is my first time seeing them & I just really want the old staple pieces to be there but I also really want the new shit, too. In other words, I can't make sense of my own feelings any more Tré in drag doing the rap parts. Everyone wants to hear that. I was thinking more audience participation for that part But Tre is drag is always something people want to see, yes.

I gotta agree to a certain degree, this is the third time for me seeing them, and it's gonna be great, but I'd like to see "rare" stuff, but that only turns up at the small club shows I can't ever see because it's oceans away.

I was even pissed about that on the 21stCB tour. It was my first time seeing them, so I didn't mind so much, but the only old song they played was 2,000 LYA, and that's not even that special. It was just the usual stuff apart from that. I still enjoyed the hell out of it, but I wouldn't go again if they were playing "just the hits".

I don't know how big the show they're gonna do in Ireland this year is, but Ullevaal Stadion can hold about 35000, so it's an event every time a band or an artist sells all the tickets.Come to Norway my friend, come here and witness the greatness

Come to Norway my friend, come here and witness the greatness I think the biggest we have is about 20,000. They usually do two stops over here, with the second one more random. At least that's what they did last time I will have to go to Norway sometime. Wanna booze it up with you
OneSongInFrench Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 A tour is used to promote albums, usually - but in the case of Green Day, it's really a tour right now to promote them as a band again I feel. People aren't going to this tour mostly to hear new material, because all they've been thinking about is will they be back at all, and can they still deliver? What better way to show they are still on their game, than by playing the songs that made them where they are today? When all the trilogy songs were being played before, obviously we know now that Billie Joe wasn't in the right mind set, and now that he's clean and sober he's focusing on the majority of the fans that have followed them for so many years. The die-hards want the old songs, and some people want the new ones, but to sell tickets and get in the swing of things in a new life style, I think it's best they play what's familiar. I saw them in 2005 at the American Idiot tour, and it was, beautiful. It was the Bullet in a Bible set, (With other songs that got cut from the DVD) and I actually saw the 21st Century tour as well. Truthfully, it doesn't mater to me what the set is, as long as they are enjoying what they are doing. If you want to hear older songs, I suggest you go pop in your copy of 39/smooth or Kerplunk. Fans want to dictate everything a band does, and sometimes that's just not possible. There may be many other factors contributing to the so called "greatest hits" set, but the point is - it's going to be what it is and they are still giving 100 percent to you for your hard earned ticket. Playing songs that have been SHOWN to be loved, where's the problem? The only problem I have, is...they aren't coming to Michigan this leg of the tour.
DannyDirnt Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 To be honest, I'm gonna see them for the first time ever and I wouldn't care AT ALL if they removed Shout beccause I've heard that in videos like 9554613218 times. Same goes for King For A Day. They've been doing the same thing for 9 years now, it's time for a change in my opinion. I'd only miss the shenanigans, but they could do them (shorter) during Fuck Time or some other song.
Tubbie Head Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I would want to see them playing King for a Day/Shout, even if it was my 10th time seeing them live. It's for me, one of the best if not the best parts of the shows... I just LOVE it! I don't care if it's overplayed, it's always so much fun.
scottrowan200 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Some of the American idiot shows they played the full album and then an encore of hits Why can't they do this again Obv not all 3 albums. But a good few
djrossstar Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 9 years? Try 16 years they have been doing KFAD live with that shtick!
