Soroush Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I believe this band is so talented so the best thing for them is to try something new. Something more epic and modern sound like AI. This band has a breakthrough album every decade so I'll keep my finger crossed to see the band's next huge success in 2014 or 15
! Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 Really interesting topic! I’ve actually been thinking about this the last couple of days, and this is what I’m hoping for. Yes, I’m kind of shooting for the stars here, but it’s my fantasy and I can dream up what I want, haha! * Warning: I talk a lot* The first thing that I expect to happen is, as soon as Billie is healthy again and ready to get back out there, Green Day will resume the promo that they had started before Uno. They’ll be on Jay Leno, Ellen, SNL, etc. They’ll also go on tour, maybe doing Europe before coming back for those postponed North American dates. Then maybe they’ll do South America, Asia, Australia, etc., finishing out 2013. In the midst of all this touring and interspersed promotional appearances, this is where I want the general public to realize how great these trilogy songs are. I’m hoping that Green Day releases some perfect single (I’m not sure which song yet), and it shall become some huge epic single that everyone loves. Suddenly people will boast about their love of Green Day, their single will be played on every radio station, and their album sales – for all three albums – will skyrocket. Their follow-up singles will see similar popularity and critical acclaim. Thus, 2013 will end with Green Day having the biggest single of the year, and multiple Grammy nominations. They should probably win Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and other big awards. Oh, we might as well put in some epic VMA awesomeness too – win 7 more awards (like in 2005) and put on a great performance. Moving on, the trilogy album cycle will die down by early 2014. They’ll have to get ready for Dookie’s 20th anniversary and American Idiot’s 10th anniversary. It’d be cool if at the 2014 Grammys (where they win all those awards I mentioned) if they did some kind of special Dookie thing, since those are right around the same time that the album came out. I don’t know. But Dookie should be re-released with a bunch of bonus stuff – outtakes, probably that pre-Dookie days documentary, maybe some other special stuff. That’d be cool. And then, later on in the year, it will be time for American Idiot’s birthday celebration: We’ll need the American Idiot movie (starring Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong as St. Jimmy, of course), the Heart Like A Hand Grenade documentary we’ve been expecting for the last 8 years, and that AI musical documentary they mentioned a few months ago (again featuring St. Billie). Maybe re-release the album with some outtakes and whatnot, along with these DVDs. That’d be awesome!! (Maybe the AI movie should hit theaters earlier so it can be on DVD in time? Or maybe it can be in theaters in late summer, and then be on DVD in time for Christmas? I don’t know.) Other things to consider: A live album from the trilogy; possibly another greatest hits CD (since it’s already been 11 years and 5 [+2] studio albums since the last one); hopefully another Shenanigans with all the glorious outtakes from the last decade – I want to hear this “Wonderful” song, and “Oh Girl,” and any other beautiful tracks they’ve kept from us. It’d also be cool to get an acoustic album! And that elusive Cigarettes & Valentines record….. I haven’t decided where to fit these goodies in yet though. And finally: Green Day’s Next Album. I would really love it if their next album pushed those ambitious and experimental boundaries even further. They’ve shown that they can pull of different styles really well. I love songs like Misery, ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl), Kill The DJ, Brutal Love, Wow! That’s Loud, Restless Heart Syndrome, Jesus Of Suburbia, and many of their other songs – they seem so unexpected compared to, say, Basket Case or something. I mean, I still love their straightforward pop punk songs. But I’d be thrilled to hear them fully branch out and do something really different for them. I’d love something on the scale of American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown, yet not as a character-driven rock opera. It’d be great to get an album on that level of ambition and grandiosity, but at the same time intensely confessional and relatable. Given Billie’s currently overcoming addiction, I wouldn’t be surprised if their next album had a lot of darker, more serious songs that really dive into that. Lyrically, their next album could be a profound masterpiece. Musically, I would love to hear some more piano and string driven tracks, and horns like on Brutal Love! They’re really good at those softer ballads. And Billie should definitely keep using more of his range – from the low bassy notes to his high falsetto register. I love it all. I liked his vocal performance on Brutal Love, so it’d be great if he uses his voice like a true instrument like that on their future albums. I don’t think their next album will be out until 2015. Though 2014 would be cool, given the trend they have. But yeah, this might take some time, especially if they really do all that stuff I dreamed up that fills up the next two years. After that, I don’t know. They’ll keep putting out great albums for a while. They’ll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That’s all I know. (As in speculate.) Fun times ahead of us! I totally forgot about that documentary from the pre Dookie days. I can't wait for that to come out. I hope if they do release a live album based on the songs from the trilogy, I hope it's like included with something else because we will probably have a lot of live footage on YouTube by then. 2015 seems like the most realistic time frame for their next album, as I'm sure they'll spend most of 2013 touring for the trilogy like you said. The main thing I'm wishing for is the 2014 Dookie and AI. What better way to remind folks that these guys have released two classic albums that changed music at the time, and re release it with some awesome stuff that could be bundled with it!!
yuridookie Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 In my opinion, released in 2016, and has nothing to do with the recent album
DxBecks Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I could see the band releasing an album like Abbey Road or Let it Be if I'm being honest. Brutal Love was pretty Beatles but with a Green Day twist and it was glorious. Whatever it is I hope it is one of their best works, I know that is a high expectation, but I really want to see a recent band break the stereotype that they can't be as good as they once were and see Green Day have a smash record in each decade.
GuitarPunk94 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 anything could happen..but my personal opinion at this time is this.. billie continues his rehab stuff..us tour in spring 2013, festival shows (and maybe some few GD shows (like in london)) in summer 2013, uno-dos-tré world tour after a short break maybe from fall 2013 to early/mid 2014..the next step would/could be a new album then, maybe in summer 2015

I want to see that happen so bad. It'll be awesome to see a site like Sputnik praise them after they have just trash talked the band for their past four albums.
whatshername-thefrenchy Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I'd love them to release an album in 2014. Every years ending by 4 they're on the top of the world and I love them being on the top of the world, but I doubt this will happen. Maybe they'll enter the Rock'n Roll hall of Fame in 2014 for their 25th anniversary, that would be awesome. There would be so many things to celebrate (Dookie's 20th anniversary, AI's 10th anniversary, GD's 25th anniversary, Rock'n roll Hall of Fame...) 2014 will be a Green Day year. Maybe they'll tour like Sum 41 does right now to celebrate those anniversaries. As for their sound maybe they are going to diversify do some songs like Kill the DJ or Night Life without straying away from punk pop. Trying new music styles with Green Day's style. An entire album like that would be fun (and it would prevent people from saying "Green Day is always the same: the 3 smae chords all over again"). Something casual without any pressure for them just to try new things and get inspiration, maybe a new side project and then going back to thier style incorporating new things to do something Epic like AI.

w00t932 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 There will probably be a massive tour in 2014 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of American Idiot and the 20th anniversary of Dookie. Then, they take a break in 2015. A new album in Late 2016 or early 2017 (my guess).

whatshername-thefrenchy Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 2014 has the possibility of being a bigggggggg year for us Green Day fans!! Also 2014 is possibly the year when I'll graduate and start teaching so this is going to be an awesome year! (I know nobody cares)
Tim_13 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 at the 21st december 2012 everything ends. there won't be a next album, tour or anything else.
Comic Sans Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I honestly hope they do a serious album now, not a sad or depressing one, but just serious. No songs like Fwoo Time or Makeout Party. Not lyrically, but musically I love Makeout Party!!!
Harry Potter. Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Not lyrically, but musically I love Makeout Party!!! I love the solo!

Soroush Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 2014, it's tradition y'know. Dookie 1994, American Idiot 2004. Yeah that's why I said 2014
joeysturkeyhead Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Seeiously, I could imagine Green Day being around as long as Rolling Stones, I saw this live thing with them on tv that wasn't very old and all of them, especially Mick Jagger had alot of energy. Green Day is only 40 years old, you guys are seriously talking like they're fucking 80! They're not fucking Justin Bieber! Imagine Bieber when he's 50/60 looking like this http://www.gigaviral.com/images/original/old-justin-bieber_1329251597.jpg singing "If i was your boyfriend I'd never let you go, swag, swag, swag".

Yeah the whole age issue is ridiculous. Hell, even Chuck Berry is still performing.
joeysturkeyhead Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Yeah the whole age issue is ridiculous. Hell, even Chuck Berry is still performing. And he's 86, I even thought he was dead!
Clockwise Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Next they're going to make a Green Day Saturday morning cartoon.
Brian Gag Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Dan Aykroyd has been trying like crazy to get a reboot of "Ghostbusters" off the ground with a new generation of actors. With Jason White in the band, Green Day has four members. Do the right thing, Dan. Make it happen.
Marrymebilliejoe Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I don't know exactly what I want, but Green Day always has a plan and always seems to know what's best. So, hopefully they will start touring again..I just want to see them back on stage where they belong!!
