xLumian Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Saw that coming, Tre does belong on their though. It probably wasnt eligable. It really sucks though. Tre is an amazing album and no ones going to hear it because no one knows about the trilogy or stopped listening after Uno :'(
Velocity Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I like how when Green Day gets nominated for a Grammy everyone freaks out over how big a deal it is, and when they're not nominated for one people say, "well, the Grammys are a shitty award ceremony anyway"
ThisMoonlife Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 You're surprised because they're your favorite band? Or are you surprised because you're a objective music critic? an objective music critic. not a objective music critic.
1039SweetChildren Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Oh well... Next time! (As in next album, of course.)
WhiteTim Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Well The Grammys nominations are selected by the members of the Grammys I guess they didn't make enough noise to the members... I forgot all about the grammys this year
.................... Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 So what? I don't care a fuck whether they get a nomination or not.
Sixtrix Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 It would be cool of they'd get nominated for the Grammys in 2014 for the entire trilogy. But I guess it depends on how popular the trilogy will get and if it will contain at least 1 hit single, since it's really nothing but a popularity contest.
spacesauce Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Since Uno made the Sept 30 cut off, it won't be eligible next year. I believe if a single from the album is released after, it would still be a possibility. The trilogy as a whole can't get nominated. I'm not bummed out about them missing out, but it would have been cool for them to take the stage and perform at least. Likely to not happen now since they were shut out.
Heather. Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Lost whatever respect I had for the Grammys when they nominated "We are never ever getting back together" for record of the year. That actually caused me physical pain.
Guest supersaiyemmy Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 i'm not surprised. I didn't think these albums are that deserving of awards since I saw a good majority of the music as filler. I hope they focus on one good album next time
GuitarPunk94 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 as long as GD dont care that much about awards and continue writing songs for their true fans im fine with this
uhleckseee Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 My boyfriend and I had a conversation about these award ceremonies. It was mostly pertaining to the Academy Awards, since he absolutely hates them (he's bitter because Forrest Gump won over Fight Club back in the day ). But anyways, these awards are bologna (wow, that word looks so wrong). Bands like Mumford and Sons, sure, they make great music, but they follow a formula that makes their music easy to listen to. These awards are set up with formulas. Look back at the Academy Awards. Seven Psychopaths was a brilliant film, but it likely won't be nominated; whereas Lincoln will be. Why? It follows a formula for movies that win. So these records, although good, are just doing what will sell the most, and that translates into trophies and awards. We do get great moments when bands that break the mold win awards, but those times are few and far in between. Green Day has even followed that formula a few times. I'm not saying that someone has told them to follow a formula or that they're following what the label is saying, no. What I am saying is that Green Day knows how to write great music. Sometimes this great music is easy to listen to and just happens to follow that structure that they're looking for at the time. I'm just looking at the nominated artists for the Rock category. Not horrible, but surprising. Bruce Springsteen made another record? Who knew? But anyways, without Green Day on the ballot, I'm rooting for The Black Keys or Jack White. Muse would be cool, too, but I wasn't a huge fan of The 2nd Law.

It was mostly pertaining to the Academy Awards, since he absolutely hates them (he's bitter because Forrest Gump won over Fight Club back in the day ). You mean Pulp Fiction right? Forrest Gump had Tom Hanks in one of of his performance while Pulp FictionFiction was basically a rip off of horrible 70's asian cult films (tho I do like Pulp Fiction better than Gump)
Velocity Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Bruce Springsteen made another record? Who knew? Woah there. I think most people knew that, considering it debuted at #1 in over a dozen countries
Ana. Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Disappointing, but I am not really surprised. I've been looking at some of the nominees and I was like 'is this a joke' I mean stuff like Call me maybe or LMFAO being nominated. what.
joeysturkeyhead Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I'm surprised to not see at least ¡Uno! in the "Best Rock Album" category. Mumford is in there and they are a Folk group so I'm confused there In my opinion Mumford And Sons aren't that good. The only reason they win id because all hipsters buy their album because when the album came out not many people listened to them therefore it was hipster to do so. And as everyone is hipster because it's mainstream to be hipster, then no one actually is, that's a major fail.

tvrman Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The day GD wins a Grammy is the day you know GD have truly lost the plot.

And as everyone is hipster because it's mainstream to be hipster, then no one actually is, that's a major fail. Usually things would make some kind of sense to me, though for some things I need to dig deeper to get some understanding out of it for myself. But I never understood why Mumford and Sons is so popular at the moment. No matter how deep I dig into it to find the smallest line of understanding, there does not seem to be a very logical reason for the mass of people suddenly following this band. How did bluegrass become this popular? And why now?
uhleckseee Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 You mean Pulp Fiction right? Forrest Gump had Tom Hanks in one of of his performance while Pulp FictionFiction was basically a rip off of horrible 70's asian cult films (tho I do like Pulp Fiction better than Gump) I facepalmed. You're right, that was bad, I'm sorry. If my boyfriend saw that he would be very disappointed in me. I absolutely adore Pulp Fiction and I haven't seen Forrest Gump in its entirety. Woah there. I think most people knew that, considering it debuted at #1 in over a dozen countries Wow! Good for him! I didn't know that. Around here his music doesn't get played much, and the only stations that do play him only play his older songs. It's unfortunate; stations here are all "hip" stations. At least the ones that I know of..?
Sam.. Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The day GD wins a Grammy is the day you know GD have truly lost the plot. Ummm?
Slave To The Network Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 That's ridiculous! But at least we still know how amazing they are! That's what matters.
Jimmy Strummer Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The Grammy Awards have merely turned into a giant Doughnut Game, and the Album Of The Year winner has to eat the doughnut. I am disappointed that ¡Uno! hasn't gotten at least some recognition, though. Rolling Stone's best-of-2012 list is fine, but they're biased as hell so it doesn't mean that much (seriously, does Bob Dylan have to make a new record every year so Rolling Stone constantly has a dick to suck?). Uno's a great record, though I know some people on here don't think so, at least not as much as I do, and it deserves a lot more credit. I feel the trilogy as a whole should really be recognized a lot more as a great achievement for the band. I mean, who has the BALLS these days to release three full albums in such a short time? Hell, MCR are even trying the same thing with the Conventional Weapons double A-sides, because they know how gutsy it is! The musical landscape's just changed too much, I guess; it's hard to stay relevant, even when releasing three albums in a row over the course of 4-5 months.
Thatsername Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 You're surprised because they're your favorite band? Or are you surprised because you're a objective music critic? Music critics are never objective. Trust me. I am also a journalist and it is impossible to be objective when you write a critic, in fact, it would be really bad to be objective because you need an own opinion to write a well-founded review... sorry, just needed to make that clear. I also think it's hard to judge only one part of the triology. Only Uno, only Dos and only Tre might not be worth being nominated for the Grammy, but the triology as a whole? Maybe they'll have a chance next time. But does it really matter so much? I don't think so. I love the music and that's all that counts for me...
whatshername-thefrenchy Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The only reason why they are not nominated is the lack of promotion. That's really sad to say but this is how the world of music works nowadays. Look how Uno did well when it was released, how Dos did and how Tré is going to do next week. I think nobody is even going to talk about Tré except here... Only because they didn't do any promotion (except for The Forgotten). I don't blame Green Day for this, Billie Joe is sick and tired he needs to rest. I just blame the world of music which is more about brand image than true music... (and in Frace it's even worse...) Now we can only hope that they'll do big promotion when they return if we want them to be nominated to the grammys, see them on TV, on magazines, hear them on the radio and all this kind of stuffs.
