nezda86 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Wait, I'm sorry...did anyone actually think that a 3 album set wouldn't be flawless? I don't know any 3 album sets or even double albums that don't have a few weak songs. The same arguement from back when I was a kid is rehased here. Yes, you could make the ultimate cd from this song and that song. This was an experiement for Green Day and coming from the cloud of doubt after Warning that was not only hanging over the band but us fans as well...I'm glad they were able to bounce back to even have the chance to do something like this. Hey for all we know TRE could suck too and reviews might bomb on that. Who cares, I like the albums...do I like UNO better than this, yeah...but its still a great album. Green Day has made shitty songs before, but have they ever made a shitty album....no.. Personally I can't wait to see the songs that stem from this fight Billie is going through...it might be some time before we hear if we do at all...but as a songwriter myself, the best music comes from pain Very well quoted. I would only say that I think what Billie is being through and the feelings he had that ended up in meltdown on the stage is already in those songs.
DaVin Kim Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 As far as I see it, theWrongWay suggested the way that it could have been more successful to the band and many people did not understand him. But, the problem was that theWrongWay quoted the critics review to back him up, which made him seem like he based his opinions of the album based on the critics. Now, I personally don't care if Green Day is loved by many people. Sure, it would be nice, but my, and many others opinions, is that Green Day should do what they want. If they wanted the trilogy to be huge, maybe they should have done it your way. If they want to release shit tons of songs, they should follow through it. If they want to make a hip-hop go ahead. But to do things because someone else told them to? That is not good with many Green Day fans (and the way you suggested what should have done sounds like you telling Green Day what to do and that caused a many offense) The last point I want to make though is that you have not heard Tre. And maybe Tre alone can top anything that Green Day has done (commercially). So hold your horse until you heard Tre. From what I have heard so far, 99 Revolutions is one of, if not the best song, songs that Green Day have ever came up with. Dirty Rotten Bastard is another Rock Opera Song (It lasts 8 minutes) X-Kid sounds very mature. The Forgotten sounds far better than 21 Guns. 8th Ave. Serenade sums up !Uno!. Amanda is something else man.
Heather. Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Dirty Rotten Bastard is another Rock Opera Song (It lasts 8 minutes) Was this confirmed? I know it's been described as JOS-y, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's that long. I could describe American Eulogy as JOS-y and that was only 4:26.

Is Green Day “going all over the place”, according to Billie Joe. “It’s an arena song then a sing-along and it takes off. We wanted to make something similar to Jesus Of Suburbia (off American Idiot) or a b-side off The Beatles’ Abbey Road. “It’s a number of songs combined that make a giant sing-along and something you can dance to.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/sftw/4502071/.html Yup, it sounds like it to me. I think it will be more like Homecoming. (As far as sounds go but I know what you mean by JOSy song)

DaVin Kim Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I hope you're right, I just don't want to get my hopes up length-wise. That's what she said. I agree. I mean, American Eulogy was a good rock song, but it did not have a story to it. I love JOS and HOMECOMING because they have their own stories I think the title itself gives off what the story will be about though.
gerardsangel4977 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 They did not have insane quality control during 21st CB, because there were songs from that album that could have been cut. When you make an album, if you actually care about the music you're making that is, you'll want to write the strongest songs you possibly can. Tweaking them, working out the kinks, improving them etc. If you're slapping them together then there's no passion. They're just there. This really makes me wonder if you've actually tried editing anything of your own down before, ever. First, in all fairness to the band and the poster you responded to, Green Day actually had more songs written, total, for 21CB than they did for the trilogy. They cut down over 100 tracks to 18 (and two B-sides) vs the trilogy, where they cut down around 80 tracks to 37. And it has been stated, point-blank, that part of the reason it took so long for us to get 21CB is because Billie kept wanting to make changes, even up to the very last second. Does that really sound like something that was just slapped together to you? In the end, Butch Vig was the one to convince the group to just let it go as is, which brings me to my second point: If artists were capable of objectively editing their own material, there would be no need for editors, producers, and the like. Those positions exist precisely because artists, as a whole, are far too close to the work that they've created to make sound judgments all the time, especially if it's something that was newly created--not just in music, but all creative mediums. The artist creates whatever it is that they wish on a whim, and, yes, often there is at least some degree of self-editing going on, especially as one gets more familiar and experienced with their craft (as someone once said, "Writing is one of the few jobs that gets harder as you get better at it.") BUT, in the end, it needs to get handed off to that objective (but still knowledgeable) third-party, so they can look at it from the perspective of someone who *doesn't* view the work as their baby and give them advice about what works and what doesn't and how to improve things where needed.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 What the fuck is wrong with when I Am 64? Hope that's sarcasm.
WhiteTim Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Hope that's sarcasm. I like the song ok yeah its not their greatest song but by no means is their worst songs...
Kaddi. Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 So here's my review. Just like I did for my Uno one, I'll rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. See You Tonight 6/10 It's not an actual song, but I'll just rate it considering it's some kind of intro... which I usually think are unneccessary, but opening an album with a song called "Fuck Time" might be a bit strange, so I get the point here. For some reason, this song sounds a lot like a Christmas carol though. Fuck Time 9/10 I've been in love with this song ever since I saw them playing it live in Mainz and I was so happy when I heard it would be on the album, because all the recorded live versions are of a really bad quality. So yeah, I just love this song. Everything about it. And the only reason it didn't get 10 points is that I think it's a little bit overproduced on the album. Maybe I have to get used to it first, but I would have prefered it to sound a bit more natural. Stop When the Redlights Flash 4/10 Just another of those songs of which there are plenty on Uno and Dos. Mediocre and lame. I don't wanna skip it immediately, but I also don't wanna listen to it again. Lazy Bones 10/10 I've already loved the part of the song we got to hear on Angry Birds and I love the whole song even more. It's really great and it has great lyrics. Billie's current situation adds a little more sadness to it than it was probably intended, but still. I can also very much relate to this song, because I've felt kinda like this more than once. It reminds me a little bit of Give Me Novacaine, but in a good way. Great song, really. I also love the little break before the solo. Wild One 6/10 First of all, I gotta say that the line "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus" really made me laugh for some reason. Now about the song. It's tempting to put it together with the whole bunch of mediocre songs Uno and Dos offer, but it's a bit better than that. It has something about it that I can't quite name yet. Makeout Party 4/10 And here we go again. Nothing special about this song, I already don't wanna listen to it anymore and I've just bought the album today. It's repetetive and not very melodious. Will be one of the songs I skip a lot. Stray Heart 8/10 One of the better songs on Dos, I really like how the song is kind of flowing. It has a nice melody. It also sticks out and gets stuck in my head. Ashley 4/10 Once again, absolutely mediocre and not at all the kind of music I expect when I hear Green Day. This is not meant in a way of the style, I just don't think the song is very good musically. Like many of the new songs, it's very repetitive and there's just nothing special about it. Baby Eyes 7/10 I kind of like this, although I can't really say why. The verses are really nice while the chorus makes the song lose a bit of quality in my opinion. But then again, I kind of like that "kill" thing, so it's not too bad. Lady Cobra 2/10 Absolutely worst song on the album. I already hated the preview and I hate the full song too. It just sounds as if they're randomly smashing their instruments while Billie's singing. Nightlife 6/10 I didn't like this at first and I still dislike certain parts of the song, especially the ones with Lady Cobra. But I really like Billie's singing, it has a nice vibe to it. Definitely not typical Green Day, but really interesting. Wow! That's Loud 4/10 So why does everyone love this song? I don't really get it to be honest. It sounds just like a lot of other new songs except that thing with the "And it goes..." But yeah, not too great either. Amy 7/10 I really like the melody of this song and the lyrics are pretty sweet of course. Yet, it seems to get old quite fast. I don't think I could listen to this song more than a few times a day without getting bored. But it's quite a beautiful (although not beautiful in a Good Riddance and The Forgotten way) song. Alright, so that leaves us with an average of 5,9/10. I don't really remember, but I think that's even worse than Uno. I was actually really excited for Dos, because I was hoping it would be better than Uno, but it isn't. There are just three or four songs on it that I can see myself listening to regularly while I don't really like the rest. Now go ahead, get pissed because I'm not totally stoked about Dos.
TheJedi Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 at first, i was really excited for Dos, then i got a liiiittle dissappointed. but, the more I've listened, the more I actually like it. and now I love it xD but yeah, I REALLY love Uno, so my expectations were very high.

I'm really enjoying the album but I agree with a lot of that review and I think you've definitely picked out the best songs on the record.
Gregorovich Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 When I'm 64 is my favourite Beetles song. No dissing.
Nemo. Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 see you tonight is just... bad. and the rest doesn't convince me too. I don't like Dos that much. The most songs sound the same, and i don't get the hype about Lazy Bones. Fuck Time is the best song on Dos. in my opinion. I have to agree with Kaddy. I'm so disappointed.
Anja Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 See you tonight is sooooo Simon&Garfunkel-ish, I honestly wouldn't mind if they made a record full of that kind of style. Other than that, Dos is WAY better than UNO in my opinion. So much fun listening to, even though most songs sound very alike at first listen. It's not exactly an album I can relate to lyrically but as I said, it's super fun listening to and I can't wait to hear it live on tour! Good job, Green Day I had almost lost faith
pisquano Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I'll tell you my ratings, though it doesn't make much sense to me. 1. See You Tonight 6/10 2. Fuck Time 5/10 (I can't believe they used those chords in the chorus once again, it's like the 5th time in their songs) 3. Stop When The Red Lights Flash 7/10 4. Lazy Bones 7.5/10 5. Wild One 6/10 6. Makeout Party 7.5/10 7. Stray Heart 6.5/10 8. Ashley 5.5/10 9. Baby Eyes 6.5/10 10. Lady Cobra 7.5/10 11. Nightlife 4/10 (that high just because the instrumental part is more than decent) 12. Wow, That's Loud! 7.5/10 13. Amy 4/10 Overall: 6.2/10 which mean "decent" to me. Uno! was something like 5/10.
Kaddi. Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I'm really enjoying the album but I agree with a lot of that review and I think you've definitely picked out the best songs on the record. Thank you. I don't enjoy it that much though. Since I normally skip all the songs that sound the same (Stop When The Redlights Flash, Makeout Party, Ashley, Wild One, Wow! That's Loud), plus Lady Cobra because I hate it and See You Tonight, because I normally don't listen to intros, it only leaves me with 6 songs to listen to. Not quite much. If it wasn't Green Day, I'd even be a bit upset about having spent 17€ on it.
.Holly Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 So I came to this thread would looking for official reviews on the album. Instead I just read another argument with people saying the same things over and over and over....

Bob2123 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 This is the most sensitive site i've ever seen. Well it is a Green Day fan site. People here are passionate about them. I'm sure it's the same for any other fan site.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Well it is a Green Day fan site. People here are passionate about them. I'm sure it's the same for any other fan site. Nature of a predominantly teen fanbase I think. However not all fan sites are like that, this one tends to be quite unappreciative of any kind of criticism of the band.

DTH Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 i posted my review already in the dos thread but since everybody is doing it here.... here is my review, track by track, but viewed in album context. i gave uno a 4/10. 1. See you tonight - i wouldn't listen to it without hearing the full album. but it just builds up atomosphere very well and followed by fuck time it becomes clear what they wanted to do here. 5/10 2. Fuck Time - some people are saying: i know it's supposed to be stupid but i don't like the lyrics. i'm saying: you don't understand that it is beautiful trash and very ironic. "i'm a beggar, but i don't want a dime". the music is just perfect. 9/10 3. Stop when the red lights flash - i never liked this one. to slow and repetetive. in the album context it is hearable though. and the intro of the song is very good. 5/10 4. Lazy Bones - completly different style compared to the previous songs. it is the hymn of the album. catchy on the first listen and it doesn't get boring. if anyone one is refering to new green day: this is the sound they didn't do in the 90s and that could represent the good side of the "new green day sound". and this is the kind of song that brings in some diversity to the album which makes it so good. it just doesn't get boring with songs like this one loosing up the structure of the classic rock'n'roll vibe which is present in many songs of the album. 10/10 5. Wild one - this is a live song (at least for a good crowd). just imagine everybody singing along to it... this is how slow songs can be good. good lyrics too, touching a serious theme. and then there is the guitar from 2:52.... perfect. 9/10 6. Makeout Party - "like a dirty old man with babysitter", again the humourus side of the album. it's refreshing that green day doesn't take themselves to serious after AI and 21stCB. the song is ok, but nothing special. but as soon as i'm ready to say "filler" the guitar solo and bass solo show up, which make the song a lot better. and again: it fits the album perfectly. following the two different songs lazy bones and wild one it brings the fast power and fun back 7/10 7. Stray Heart - that one was my favourite from the live recordings. it's definetly a live song, too. the studio version is not that good and i probably heard it to much, but i still can tell that it is a high quality song. the bass line is classic and it gives you this good old times atmosphere, yet being fresh. the other side of classic rock'n'roll compared to the more garagy fuck time. 9/10 8. Ashley - the punk song of the album. it does have something of the misfits, but still a classic green day punk tune, but with a completly unusual melody for green day. maybe would have fit on insomniac after panic song, too. but on dos it fits perfect too, showing another variation of green day. good lyrics, too. 9/10 9. Baby Eyes - the intro reminds me of christians inferno (which is one of my favoruite tracks of 21stCBD). melody reminds me a lot of the ramones, but with some unexpected changes in the melody. good follow up of ashley and you wouldn't notice this song on other green day albums as an unusual one. 8/10 10. Lady Cobra - again bringing back the vintage sound. you start to notice they placed those tracks very well. nice and fast, good live song for some pogo. 8/10 11. Nightlife - i knew this track was to come. but the casual green day listener will be suprised, thats for sure. positive or negative, thats up to everyones music taste. i love the bass, the solo and billies distorted voice. usually not a fan of studio effect on his voice, but this is the kind of music it does sound good to. i would have loved have loved a dub version of this following the normal track (for the young kids: dub doesn't have to do anythign with dubstep shit). you know something like the clash did alot, e.g with "one more time" followed by "one more dub". so do "Dublife" as a b-side please, without the rap... the rap is not good. but it fits the song. i also sence a double meaning here: girl trying to seduce this guy=drugs. 8/10 12 Wow! That's loud - nice guitar riff. melody of billies singing is average, nothing special. but then there is still this reappearing intro riff and a damn fine guitar solo. 7/10 13. Amy - it is essential here, like for every emotinal slow song: you have to be in the mood. i wouldn't hear this one too much, or it could get annoying. but it has some decent lyrics which are not cheezy or anything. and i prefere a sound like this for ballads to songs like the forgotten. the forgotten comes across very calculated and too cheesy for me (music whise). the melody and chords change in the middle part of amy is very nice. 8/10 conclusion: the average rating would be 7.1/10. but you can't rate an album with the average score of songs. the tracks are placed with so much thought and the album is so full of variety but still comes across as a unit. even thoug some green day albums have better single songs, iDOS! convince me as an album not as a collection of songs. and therefore it will be maybe the only green day album i wil hear full without wanting to skipp any tracks. green day keeping albums alive in a time where everyone is going for the big hit. they have my respect for this and also for the way they handle singles these days. so my rating for iDos! is - 8.5/10 maybe it will get a 9 over the long term... all albums (at the moment!): 1) 1039/Smoothed out slappy hours - 9/10 2) Insomniac - 9/10 3) Dos - 8.5/10 3) Dookie - 8/10 4) American Idiot - 7,5/10 5) Kerplunk -7,5/10 6) Nimrod - 7,5/10 7) Warning - 6,5/10 8) 21st century breakdown - 5/10 9) UNO - 4/10
Marrymebilliejoe Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I never understood the point of reviews...people make their own judgements by listening to the album themselves..and honestly posting your opinion probably won't change other's minds about what they think. If you like the album great, if you don't that's ok tooxD no, need to get in arguments
