blitzkriegdeb Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I think I feel most bad for the band. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the fans too, but this has to be 10x harder for them. Obviously, one their brothers is going through some tough times. It's such a shame that the trilogy is going down like this. This was such a monumental point in their careers, but now it will forever be masked by all of the events that have happened. There isn't one person to blame for this, all of the shit just hit the fan at the wrong time, and sadly the trilogy will be paying the price for it. It's easy to say, "oh the band doesn't care about album sales", but it has to sting a little when you put all of this time and soul into music only to have it go relatively unheard. I wish we would be able to look back on the Trilogy Era with good thoughts, but it looks like it's out of the question at this point. :/
Todd Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I sort of thought this might happen, Billie probably would have gotten into an even worse state with the tour. People can't expect him to jump back on stage again like that, problem free. Feel sorry for all the people who are missing out/their date is getting postponed. You'll see them eventually don't worry. They'll definitely make it up to the fans somehow. And we all know that by postponing and cancelling, it just makes Green Day even more sad. They hate to do that to their fans. You saw how apologetic Mike and Tre were in Italy or wherever when Billie was sick, imagine how they feel cancelling this much
alaniluau Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 One of my greatest fears was that Billie would insist on the tour and end up hurt as a result. This is definitely in his best interest, and I trust the band's decision completely. The next time I see Green Day will be so incredibly meaningful, whether it's in a few months or a few years. Stay strong, boys.
norcalgreendayfan Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 It's unfortunate but ultimately it's for the best interest of the band and especially for Billie. His health is the most important thing right now and would hope to get him to as close to 100% before any sort of touring resumes.
Heather. Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 One of my greatest fears was that Billie would insist on the tour and end up hurt as a result. This is definitely in his best interest, and I trust the band's decision completely. The next time I see Green Day will be so incredibly meaningful, whether it's in a few months or a few years. Stay strong, boys. I thought that might happen too, that Billie would think he's ready when he's not and insist on going back on tour because he loves it and he's a workaholic and feels guilty. I'm glad that's not the case. I also hope it's voluntary on his end and not something being forced upon him by his family, friends, band, doctors, etc. where he at the very least recognizes that this time off is necessary. I'm sure he feels depressed or guilty about it and I hope he can get past that and just focus on the positive which is him getting better in the time he needs to do it.
The Grohl Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Just like the rest of you this really messed up my day. But I would lying if I said I was totally surprise. And while I am pretty disappointed because I won't be able to see GD when I thought I would, I'm trying to look at the positives. At least the show I was going to was postponed and not flat out canceled...I'm sure they would make up those canceled dates though. And as others have pointed out hopefully we won't have to deal with bad weather. That was another thing I was honestly worried about when thinking about the show. And we do get Tre early, even though I would've preferred to have it come out later. I was happy to read that Billie is doing better and in the long run it is better than he takes his time with getting better. And GD hates disapointing their fans, so you know when they're ready to tour again they're gonna do it in the best way possible. So yeah I'm a little sad, but I guess I gotta think I'll still be able to see them, just not right away. Plus, I didn't think Billie would be able to give his all if they proceeded with the tour right after rehab. So I think it's just better for everyone.
alexwetherell Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm glad they've postponed the tour in order for Billie to get to 100%. No worse thing than him rushing his recovery. You know what the guys are like, they hate cancelling stuff so just think they'll make it up to us! I know they don't have too but they will. By the time the Emirates gig comes found they'll be kicking ass with their live shows like always. I know its disappointing for the fans in the US but theyll make it up to you's.
The Grohl Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Is it rude that I hope by the time they're ready to tour the US again that they'll pick a different opener? I was not feeling Best Coast at all.
Cob Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 That's just YOUR opinion I love the trilogy How someone say they don't like the trilogy when they've only heard one album and a handful of snippets, singles, previews, and crappy bootlegs of incomplete songs? But I digress. On another topic, how do those of us who have tickets to the cancelled shows go about getting our money back?
teresa1988 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I was not really surprised when I heard the news today. I was kind of expecting something like this. And I think it's good that they don't rush to come back, especially with Billie's rehab going on. He should take all the time he needs and hopefully they'll be back very soon. And not forgetting we get at least one good thing out if it: iTré! is being already released in December!
Muttweed182 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm kinda disappointed that while some shows got the honor of getting postponed my show just got flat out cancelled... Sucks sucks sucks.
Yojimbo Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm kinda disappointed that while some shows got the honor of getting postponed my show just got flat out cancelled... Sucks sucks sucks. I am pretty sure they are gonna make up for the cancelled ones and I'm sorry to all those who purchased tickets. And I am really glad that Billie is really into getting better and doing this right. This is much better than not getting enough treatment and maybe relapsing or falling off the wagon when he is on tour.
joeysturkeyhead Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm pretty sure they cancelled dates during Warning era, not sure about Insomniac, but either way, short answer is "yes, they have done it before." They cancelled allmost a whole tour (or something, all I know is that they did cancel a whole lotta shows) due to Mike suffering from servere panic attacks.
Guest Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm already starting to feel that vibe of how bad it must be with guys having to be under this blanket of problems with the Trilogy. At first this look like it could take over. Until all that shit happened. Now the band, Warner, and even us are stuck in this rut. I honestly wonder how the people in charge of all the booking, promotions, TV spots, and how the label are feeling inside... I feel like Warner won't be too happy with the guys after all this is over. I feel like that's been said already. But, mann. This seemed like it was gonna be the fun and happy era of Green Day, but now it's the polar opposite....
Webb_2011 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 First off, like most of you, this doesn't come as a huge surprise to me about them postponing the tour. Although I am very sad I won't see Green Day on February 1st, I would much rather have the Billie we know and love be back and better than ever! I was very happy to read that he is getting better. We definitely didn't want him to feel he had a "deadline" to make with getting better. As long as he is healthy, physically and mentally, we will all be happy! Aside from the random Instagram pictures, we really knew nothing about his progress so it's nice to finally have an official statement. I know he'll come back stronger, and better, as well as the rest of the guys! I was, however, surprised that Tre is being released early. I honestly did not expect that at all. It definitely sucks that they won't be able to promote the albums properly. To me, leading up to the release of Uno, it felt as if this huge Green Day wave was getting ready to take over the world before it came to a screeching hault. I guess it's one of those "what could have been" moments, though you can never count Green Day out. Regardless of when they come back, they will be 150% better and will kick some major ass with their next tour. I can only imagine how emotional their first show will be. Between Billie overcoming his demons and the rest of the guys all there for support, and not to mention the emotion coming from the crowd knowing that our best friends (we may not know them, but it sure feels like they're our best friends) are back! Anyone else get the feeling that, whenever it happens, the tour is going to be absolutely incredible?! Not only will they be anxious to just get back to playing live again, but I'm sure they'll be wanting to show everyone that they're still one of the best bands in the world and THE best live act in the world. I can't wait! I hope I can make it to the Moline show, but seeing as I have to drive 5 hours and am in school, my best bet is a weekend show. If I have to miss it, yes I'll be sad about it, but I think just knowing the fact that they're back will just get me more excited for their second US leg of the tour! It's been a dark time here in Green Day world for the last month, but we can definitely see the light (see what I did there?) and exciting times are ahead!
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 This seemed like it was gonna be the fun and happy era of Green Day, but now it's the polar opposite.... It is rather ironic how this music is characterized as "the most fun they've had in a while," but in retrospect, knowing what we do now (and even that is minimal information), a lot of really bad things were happening.
Jet Taman Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm really sorry people are inconvenienced about the concert delays, but it's starting to sound a little bit selfish. Saying things like "I'm bummed because the concerts are now going to be when I"m at school" or "that's when exams are so now I can't listen to Tre" and "now I have to wait even longer" kind of sounds like you're missing the big picture here. Rock God Billie Joe (and I'm not saying that to be sarcastic--I do think he's a rock god) is also a husband...a father of two boys...a real person. Anyone who has any clue about substance abuse of any kind knows that personal issues such as family and own personal health is THE #1 priority. Billie is a real person and we have to forget about our "disappointment" that the concerts are going to be some kind of 'inconvenience" to US. WE'RE worried about how it affects US???? No matter what, Green Day fans will buy the CD's, will go to the concerts, and support the band no matter what. The absence of promo for the band 2nd and 3rd albums in a trilogy is not going to make a difference. Any "new" Green Day fan that might be just hearing of Green Day is NOT going to miss out on them being on Ellen or Letterman or Conan because any "new" Green Day fan doesn't use that sort of media outlet anymore. It's all social media and iTunes. Let's not dwell too much on the fact that the promos aren't out there because the only people it really affects is US because we just want to see them on TV and perform live and be interviewed. Let's not be selfish, people. Let's just be happy that we have not one, not two, but THREE albums by our favorite band! Yeah it'll be delayed that we see them live again, but BIllie's LIFE is more important than ANY THING! Not "life" as in "life or death" but "life" as in maintaining the IMPORTANT things to HIM--Adrienne, Joey, Jakob, and of course, Billie Joe himself. Think twice please before posting how you're disappointed that you made plans and now you have to change them. It'll be okay. Trust me.

I'm not quoting the majority of your post, because I agree with you for the most part. I actually thought that of all the threads this one had some of the most understanding posts I've seen on here in awhile. Yes there is the occasional asshole that doesn't take things the right way, but overall I've seen some very mature reactions to all of this. No body is going to be jumping for joy because their concert was cancelled. At the same time, most of the disappointment that has been expressed has been done along with admitting that they understand why it has to be that way. Everyone is happy that Billie is taking care of himself, and I think once this news has had some more time to blow over, people will be even more accepting about the cancelled/postponed tour dates. I don't think you'd find a single person on this board that would rather have these shows go on as planned at the risk of Billie Joe's health.
spark in the night Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Is it rude that I hope by the time they're ready to tour the US again that they'll pick a different opener? I was not feeling Best Coast at all. I. Want. Alkaline. Trio. Damnit.
Clockwise Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Why do you guys think they decided to cancel all of the club shows, but only postponed the Jan./Feb. shows?
lizziebix Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Glad you said what you said, Jet. I've been reading on and off here all day wondering why I'm not as upset as so many others. Maybe because I'm so happy to get new music from Green Day. Live shows - yeah whatever, whenever. But new music! I could just dance.
The Forgotten Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 On the bright side of things.... at least we get Tré earlier and the concert was after all right in the middle of my exams, so it being pushed would be better. I'm relieved to be lucky enough to not be one of the dates that got cancelled
spark in the night Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Why do you guys think they decided to cancel all of the club shows, but only postponed the Jan./Feb. shows? Because Billie's treatment will not allow him to play Nov and Dec. They postponed Jan/Feb because they're not sure if his doctors will allow him to play those shows or not. The rest of 2012 is for sure no, Early 2013 is still up in the air. Either they will cancel them completely or un-postpone them. It's a waiting game.
