PaulS Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I've said this before, but people are doing some insane post-news rationalisation here. Apparently everyone just knew something was off in all these promo interviews, appearances and gigs, yet no one said anything. We don't know the nature of the problem or when it started. All we know is that the reaction here to huge swathes of their promotion this time around was excitement, not fear. They've played some great gigs: the two in England were superb, and Irving Plaza - so often cited as a disaster now - has some amazing moments and great playing. It's all there on the videos you used to enjoy. Their interviews have been funny and on-point; if anything, I'd say Billie was more lucid than he's been in a long time. We've had some great, insightful features on the band. The band themselves have said what a great time they had making the records - something that is clearly evident in all the videos - yet now all anyone can speculate about is what a nightmarish slog it was. Billie clearly has some problems he's getting help for, but I promise you didn't fucking see it in that way he glanced at Tre that one time at 00:17 into that one video that one time.
The Grohl Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Am I the only one who didn't foresee something happening in all the early promo? I never got that feeling.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Okay...heres my honest opinion...honest to god (Billie himself that is ) I had odd feelings about how Billie appeared in many of the interviews/promo from as far back as that Little Steven (or whatever it was called radio show thingy they were on in NY last October) where among other things Billie declared he "urinated on Tre" which may have just been a joke between them had it not been for Tre's reaction to the situation and Billie's general demeanor. In fact it was the reaction of Tre and Mike TO Billie throughout the promo and tour that made me go huh as much as Billie himself. I was lucky enough to go to Shepherds Bush and i must admit i noticed nothing but then again i was totally carried away with it being my first club show of the guys (not first GD show obviously) and getting first row...it was odd that Tre opened the show and now we know about the fighting back stage etc it makes more sense. Watching Irving Plaza show you would be an idiot to say Billie was his normal self he just wasnt. Im guessing if people were casually observing other shows from the tour from their living rooms rather than the pit they could calmly make an assessment of the situation rather than coming out going "fuck yeah they sang ---". Even in the Nylon Guys interview check out the reaction of Mike and Tre when Billie says "All i got is my word and my balls"...they don't laugh or ignore it...they exchange glances of concern. It is sooo noticable. And finally why did noone mention that they noticed Billie acting "off" IF that were the case? Well I for one did not dare face the wrath of the gazillion people on here who would instantly tell me how "Billie is the happiest he has ever been!!!" "Billie says the band is in the best place they have EVER been so fuck off!" "What the fuck would you know?!" "Billie has the guys and Adrienne and his boys and blah blah why on earth would he be unhappy and blah... where do you get the nerve blah" ...long story short anyone who suggested Billie was doing anything other than smiling all day while gazing longingly at Adrienne and writing songs with Mike and Tre (occasionally allowed to get a bit tipsy but its all fun) would have been set upon by wild dogs so no thanks I for one kept my opinions to myself. Personally i believe we have no fucking idea of what Billie lives like and what he experiences and goes through and it is offensive to assume anything to the contrary. All i know is he was not the same this past year and a blind deaf person could tell you that but i guess we see what we want to. Feel free to unleash the hounds
farley drexel hatcher Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I haven't noticed any dodgy reactions to billie from mike and tre at all. I will admit I noticed that billie seemed a lot more relaxed, maybe, during promo or whatever, but I myself put that down to the fact the albums are more relaxed. There's no message to set out there, nothing to be serious about. It just seemed like he was happy to have no concept albums to talk about and to be free if that. I just deep down figured billie was going through some kind of midlife crisis, rather than him being off his head on substances (apart from the times he was blatantly drunk) but the band have been the way they always have together. At least publicly. Hindsight is a funny thing and given what we know now it would be easy to see things that probably aren't there.

I didn't think something was off during the interviews and all that stuff (maybe I didn't watch them with enough attention or enough time to see something), but I do remember thinking Billie was quite intense at Irving Plaza when I watched some videos on youtube (and it was before iHeart and everything, so).
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 The title has annoyed me slightly for a few days now. There should be a 2nd "L" in cancelled. Nah, Americans are stupid and spell it both ways. http://www.reference...led-vs-canceled Am I the only one who didn't foresee something happening in all the early promo? I never got that feeling. Hindsight is 20/20. Everyone apparently knew this was happening, but no one mentioned it in even the tiniest "Hey, does anyone else think something is a little off?" comment or anything like that until after all of this was revealed. I didn't foresee anything substance-abuse wise happening either. I feared the trilogy wouldn't be as successful as I hoped after hearing "Oh Love" and seeing its crappy video, but no, I never was like, "Aha! Alcohol. It all makes sense."
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Am I the only one who didn't foresee something happening in all the early promo? I never got that feeling. Definitely not alone. I was just glad the old Green Day was back, without the burden of the last two records.
Marrymebilliejoe Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I think when people are trying to look for something they find it. So, I think that when Billie had his rant and people started to look back at his other interview/shows, all of a sudden people were like..oh, now I see it. I'm sorry, I didn't see anything different, and although I can't speak for all people, I'm sure most other people didn't either

Cob Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Did anyone going to the Santa Cruz show get an email about your refund yet? They were supposed to go out at 4pm today but I haven't received anything and wanted to see if anyone else got an email.
Mar Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 The title has annoyed me slightly for a few days now. There should be a 2nd "L" in cancelled. It can be both ways, even in America. According to AP Style (which I know GDC isn't explicitly using but whatever), "canceled" is preferred; as someone who edits copy based on AP Style, I hate it. [/csb] Actually, what bothers me more is that it just says "December tour canceled" when, sadly, November dates were, too. Oh God, I'm a bitch.

Mozzabillie Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Why in the world is Ticketmaster still selling tickets to Reno? It had been sold out but they some how have tickets now. It should show "cancelled" instead! They are still selling tickets to some of the postponed shows, too.
Mar Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Wolstein Center and The Liacouras Center say the new date will be in spring, maybe revealing more than they should have
Mozzabillie Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Wolstein Center and The Liacourias Center say the new date will be in spring, maybe revealing more than they should have That sounds very promising! Where did you see or hear that? Nevermind, I just clicked on your links.
Mar Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 When is spring in the United States? The season officially begins March 20 and runs officially through June 21, but the beginning of March is commonly associated with the beginning of the holiday. Even though we frequently are still fucking around with snow in most of the areas this tour is happening So, March and April, maybe May (but also frequently linked with summer, especially the end of May/Memorial Day), basically.

Ok I understand, thanks! At least we'll have 3 albums to wait for the tour. And they will have a ton of new songs to add to the setlist.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Wolstein Center and The Liacourias Center say the new date will be in spring, maybe revealing more than they should have I won't believe it until it's official. I refuse to get excited. Bad things (like tours getting cancelled/postponed) happen when I get excited... But fuck, "spring" makes it seem so close... Springtime is warm and makes me happy. This would be enough springtime happiness to get me through the dreary wintertime for sure.
The Grohl Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Yeah it would be nice if they did the postponed US shows in spring. Spring is better concert weather than winter
netty Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I very much doubt new shows will be confirmed until Billie is a lot nearer to being fit to do a full blown tour. that`s why the full european tour hasn`t been announced yet! and those shows have been booked for a while from the impression I had!
