Can you all shut up? Seriously. None of you were there (with the exception of the Basket Case dude). Yeah some people were booing, perhaps those certain people don't like Green Day and were happy that Metallica replaced them. Who cares. There were hardcore Metallica fans in the front, but also a ton of people who were in the crowd just to enjoy the act, no qualms against Green Day. Also, not to mention, they were probably booing because if Green Day was playing, then that would mean Metallica would not be playing. They wouldn't even be there. Voodoo once asked Metallica to play earlier in the year when they began scheduling bands and Metallica turned them down. So to have them come back and say yes probably made a lot of fans excited and thankful. I have no issues with people booing. It's not like Metallica themselves were booing. They did the complete opposite. It was just a select few parts of the crowd that booed. Not the entire fucking crowd. So all of you stop this debate and get over it. Not everyone in the world likes Green Day. I was so happy they had their several GD shoutouts. That doesn't mean all Metallica fans hate Green Day. Just shut up and enjoy the terrible cover.

There were several people around me that liked both. That had bought tickets to see Green Day, but settled for Metallica purely because it's Metallica. I mean, I love both bands, and still say to myself how I wish it were Green Day that had played. But, nonetheless, Metallica kicked ass, and gave many props to Green Day and Billie. I mean, he could have simply did the cover and ripped on them. Instead, he dedicated a song, played a cover, and mentioned to the entire crowd that the world needs them to get better, that Metallica needs for them to get better. If they didn't give a shit, none of that would have happened. It surely made an already somewhat of a crappy night (due to Green Day not performing) a much more enjoyable experience for a fan of both groups.

I'm not saying that all Metallica fans hate Green Day but I will say, that i think that is what the booing was about and like Spark in the night said, almost everyone here wasn't there, so they can't really say whether or not that is what the booing was. On the other hand, I was there and heard the people who participated in the booing trash Green Day and even joke about Billie being in rehab. Let me give you guys some quotes:

"If Green Day were still playing, I would have left after AWOLNATION. Who wants to listen to the same four cords for two hours"

"That's right, you go to rehab!"

"How are they still around"

"Green Day just needs to stop making music"

Those are just a few things i heard. And like I said in an earlier post, this wasnt just one group talking as I ended up in a few different places from beginning I end. AGAIN, I'm not saying all Metallica fans don't like em, but a lot of them don't.

This was my experience. On the other hand, I gotta hand it to Metallica as they were really good and real respectful toward green day. Props!

Yeah. I agree. There were several folks dropping the F-Green Day and such. They all looked like folks that would never have listened to Green Day in the first place. And they all had to sit through AWOLNation and Silversun Pickups to head Metallica, which Wasny easy for me. Big I was surrounded by a bunch of girls, couples, then those thrash metal dudes that just wanna mosh. The musical diversity was intense. We went from local blues alternative, to some kind of screaming techno alternative, to a girly sounding techno alternative band to Metallica. What a crazy night!

And I'm not denying there are plenty of people in the metal community who feel that way. But keep in mind, I've heard almost those exact same arguments used against Metallica. There's assholes everywhere, but more importantly, an extremely diverse bunch of musical genres. Not everyone is going to like every one. As long as the bands stay respectful to each other, I don't give a shit what the fans say.

Ya know i was being a bit harsh yesterday with my comments with James and Lars...

I'm just still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Metallica paid tribute to Green Day. Can you imagine growing up and loving a band, learning their music, and eventually becoming good friends with them? And then to top that off, they save your ass at the last minute and pay tribute to you? Crazy.

I know it's already been said but I think it's great that Metallica have gone out of their way to do a short Green Day cover and dedicate a song to Billie Joe - I think it just shows that these big bands are big headed and actually care about other bands :)

I'm not saying they're assholes, they all seemed very nice. I tend to think if it as te same we we bash Justin beiber and what not (bad example lol).

So I dot care about fans too much and as muh as I hate hearing it, I didn't say anything to anyone cause they are allowed to have opinions and whatnot. I'm not 14, it doesn't upset me. Does make me sad for obvious reasons cause no one likes to hear bad things about the band they love but it doesn't upset me. Im just adding in my experience with the whole thing.

And yes, as long as the band are respectful, I'm happy. He'll, I'm not sure it would upset me if the bands weren't, but I know Metallica has a good relationship with Green Day.

Hetfield is a beautiful person as always.

I think mainly he wanted to do this cause he relates to what happened to Billie Joe on a personal level, they're both up there among my favorite bands of all time and I can see how Hetfield relates.

Hetfield and Billie Joe: underground band makes big name on the streets, underground band strikes it big and signs record deals, the band gets mainstream success but band members chose to remain true to their music roots attitude wise, artist finally breaks out of the last point and into accepting rock star status and life style, behavioral changes start getting noticeable to fans, artist gets edgier and more erratic for no apparent reason, artist collapses and enters rehab.

Where Billie Joe goes from here is where he's going to be different from Hetfield, post-rehab Hetfield is lost 95% of what made him a great frontman before. We'll see what happens with Billie.
