Disapperingirl Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I honestly think this is so cool, just to see other artists supporting Billie and showing respect to Green Day. And then, they're Metallica, they're legends, and to see them playing American Idiot and the bassline from Welcome To Paradise made me so proud, even though a big part of their fans there probably didn't give a shit about Green Day songs
Nemo. Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Metallica covering Green Day. That made my day!
San Miguel Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I think it's good they did something to recognise Green Day. hmmm.. i haven't really added anything with that comment but oh well..
Alan86 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Metallica covering green day made my day. Love both of those bands?
Hermione Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 What an nice tip of the hat to the boys. Much respect to Metallica. That was the shittiest cover yet. I mean they played it well, but all half-assed. Still, they're not exactly very similar to Green Day - so it's cool they did anything. It's not like they announced it as a cover, they just played a snippet of the song to show them some respect. Didn't sound any worse than some of Green Day's seconds long heavy metal "covers" that they do before Brain Stew, and at least unlike Green Day they weren't half taking the piss with it
Tubbie Head Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I think it's cool! =D They did it much like GD covers other bands (including Metallica)
The Forgotten Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Well fuck. That must've been awesome to be there to see!
Travis Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 http://youtu.be/rovZ3a6OoBQ Here's "Battery" dedicated to Billie.
HeeeyOhhhBillieJoe Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Regarding the booing on the video.. the majority of Metallica's fan base consists of close minded asshole music snobs. They're all basically like "I must only like metal music! and classic rock!!11". I've experienced it because I use to be a member of a Metallica fan forum. I use to get hate messages for liking Green Day.. the booing doesn't surprise me.. They think they're cool or something..

Yeah, and the majority of Green Day's fanbase consists of whiny teenage brats. I should just stay out of this thread.
Jaymee!! Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 In response to the booing, I think it was based on the fact that 'yeah Green Day could've been here, but we're happy that YOU'RE here'. Not that the fan base consists of nothing but asshats. You guys are too judgey. And just sayin', I think I have better judgement than the rest of you. Since I was there and stuff. And had the feel of the crowd.

Not that the fan base consists of nothing but asshats. You guys are too judgey. Nah, I think that the booing was definitely becase a lot of people who like Metallica don't like Green Day. And no I don't think ALL Metallica fans are music snobs, but a lot of them are. Anyways, props to Metallica for doing this. Lars is still not very good lol. But whatever it seems to fit Metallica.
Jaymee!! Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Nah, I think that the booing was definitely becase a lot of people who like Metallica don't like Green Day. I think you're 100% wrong and a bit ignorant. But that's just me.
germanfuzaloo Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I think you're 100% wrong and a bit ignorant. But that's just me. Haha alright. Apparently I struck a nerve. Didn't mean to offend you. Btw just read the last part of your post and saw you were there. Didn't see it before. Guess you do prolly know better than me.
spark in the night Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Ok I remember that solo and I never would have assumed that's Basket Case. Are you sure it's Basket Case?
.Holly Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Yeah, and the majority of Green Day's fanbase consists of whiny teenage brats. I should just stay out of this thread. well said
LouLou Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Nah, I think that the booing was definitely becase a lot of people who like Metallica don't like Green Day. Yes, you are correct, this is absolutely why they were booing. As someone who was there, I've never heard so much Green Day bashing from people. All day, that's all I heard was people talking about it, especially when they were getting ready for Metallica to come on and during Silversun Pickups, who came on just before. It wasn't just from one group either, but from many many many people throughout the crowd. Made me really sad, but in the end, they are entitled to their opinions, just like we say bad things about many musical artists and, remember, they are a totally different genre of rock, so it's natural the two sides wouldn't be fond of one another. That's why we listen to punk and they listen to metal.
! Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Who cares ahout what fans of another band thinks about THIS band. The fact that they did what they did was a good thing.
Justin Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Eugh the old metal fans can't like punk bands debate. Whatever happened to people liking different genre's. This is exactly the same as everyone generalising the SBE show because one or two people boo'd. Sure you would have had some idiots boo the mention of Green Day, hell i bet when Justice were playing, i bet a couple people boo'd when they mentioned Metallica. To say alot of Metallica fans dont like Green Day is a pretty stupid argument. I know a shit load of Metallica fans who happen to all be it not be their biggest fans but have enough interest in Green Day.
captain peroxide Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Ok I remember that solo and I never would have assumed that's Basket Case. Are you sure it's Basket Case? It's not. That's the same solo Kirk has played live for years. Clean chorus, riffing on C, with the little slide-y riff at the end.

WhiteTim Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Yeah i know some hardcore metal fans that will attack u for days if you mention anything thats not metal but i know other metal fans who listen to everything I'm just like its music who cares with what genre it's in
germanfuzaloo Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Yeah i know some hardcore metal fans that will attack u for days if you mention anything thats not metal but i know other metal fans who listen to everything I'm just like its music who cares with what genre it's in Essentially. By the time I stopped being 14 I was like "Oh, you mean I DON'T have to be a complete douche about music I don't like?!" Problem is, some people don't stop being 14...
Justin Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 It's sort of a thing for metal fans not to like punk. Not saying all metal fans hate punk, but it's a little more than a stupid argument. It's not really though.... As someone who listens to so many different genre's. For example, i listen to bands like Green Day to Cypress Hill to Aerosmith to Taylor Swift to Metallica to Two Door Cinema Club to Gogol Bordello to The Cure to Frank Turner to Dashboard Confessional. That is such a huge coverage of music genre's. There are so many people who are the same, so to say Metallica fans would boo the mention of Green Day because they dont like them is a generic stupid argument with little substance.

Sure, there are a lot great people like you. But there is also a lot of hate towards Green Day in the metal community. So I think it's legitimately possible that some Metallica fans there did boo Green Day. I don't see why people are so defensive about this. Since when was it an unfathomable for Green Day to get booed at a metal concert?
