Rusty Hart Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 yeah,, and overall this concept of song kinda like LYG... just 2:30 ... and the part after solo like LYG too... also "Let yourself gooo let yourself goo" "Ill make you surrender ill make you surrender"
The Forgotten Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I really can't stop listening... it's a serious case of OCGDD
watchmefade92 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I think the song is a little too simple. And the studio version's too slow. But it's definitely not a bad song.
joyn6160 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 IMO the song is too short, and could have had the potential to be a great song.
jona92 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Why is there so much hate for this song?... because people have different opinions?
Shredder2 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Is it me, or does the main riff of this song sounds like it was kinda recycled from the second part of "Homecoming", "East 12th Street"?
WrongWayToSalvation Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Is it me, or does the main riff of this song sounds like it was kinda recycled from the second part of "Homecoming", "East 12th Street"? The main riff to Makeout Party also sounds similar to East Jesus Nowhere. Why is there so much hate for this song?... Because, besides the intro, there really isn't anything special about it. The solo sounds so distant, the guitars sound muddy, and the lyrics are corny. "Out of sight/out of my mind" < one of the most cliche and overused lines in lyrics. It's like they slapped the song together in 5 minutes just to fill up the tracklisting.
Ritz Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Love it. Well, obviously the tempo will be different when played live but I dont mind that. Its a good song.
Sixtrix Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I think the song is a little too simple. And the studio version's too slow. But it's definitely not a bad song. I guess that's a "fair" response after being spoiled with a bit more complex Green Day after AI and 21CB. Though I can not fully agree, as it is still very subjective. If this song would have been released somewhere before AI I doubt anyone would call it a bit too simple except for the critics who have always complained that Green Day songs just existed out if a few chords and nothing else. If it is too complex then Green Day has lost its way in experimenting. If it is too simple Green Day has written a retarded brother to another simple song. This just clearly shows that there is no possible way in pleasing everyone. But let me just end this message by saying that even a retarded brother can have way more potential than the people judging him for what he is.
muru Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 If you make music for a couple of decades chances are some of your songs are going to sound a lot like some of your other songs. That's life. I like this song. It's simple, it's fun, it gets stuck in my head. This makes me think about A Clockwork Orange a lot for some reason. Strange. o.o
watchmefade92 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Or maybe it's too simple for being that slow, there could be more energy (Like, I really love LYG for it's speed). But I haven't listened so many times to it, so my opinion could easily change.
Asa. Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Okay, so we've heard the live version for months and everyone loves it. Everyone hears the preview from CSI, and loves it. Then everyone hears the studio version and a bunch of you just bitch about it. Seriously?
Soroush Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I was expecting at least a 4 minute song for this long title. Good song though. Don't like the solo but like the rest of the song but I hope this song is not a single. Music industry is kind of single oriented nowadays and I'm sure this song won't do well.

Kitty Purry Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 wow had no idea people hate this song so much oh well they'll come around. lol but i can't judge though only heard the little part on csi but i fucking loved it. and also can this whole 'let's compare every new gd song to every song ever existed' trend die already :angryokay now i heard the whole song and i get the hate i suppose same thing happened with kill the dj i dont understand the different tempos did gd realized it sounded better faster when it was too late.

This. and also can this whole 'let's compare every new gd song to every song ever existed' trend die already :angry and this. I do not understand what people were expecting from this song. Why does everything they write have to be huge to some of you guys? "It could have been soooo much better." They obviously wanted to write a quick, fun little song that they could bash out live or in a rehearsal to have a good time. That's the point of this song: fun. You can see it when they play it live, the band is having a blast and Billie is grinning like a fool while hes singing it. The band has said Dos is a party, its made up of fun songs that are meant to be a good time. They're not supposed to be complex, over the top songs, that's what Tre is for. "The song is meaningless." Nobody thought this was going to be "Imagine". There's plenty of meaning on American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. There's plenty of meaning in Uno. There will be plenty of meaning on Tre. Can't we just have some fun as we listen listen to fun music for a change?

This song even if released back in Green Day's older days would still be said to be filler. Take the melody of the song for instance. Its catchy, but compare it some of the melodies from past songs, such as Walking Alone, Stuart and the Avenue, Pulling Teeth etc., it isn't as memorable. It just sounds passable, like a lot of these songs do. Like there was really no quality control, they just threw whatever song they could on the albums and just said "Oh, we thought ALL of these songs were good." to justifiy it. Why do you think we haven't had a single b-side with any of the singles? They say that they're their hardest critics, but it doesn't seem like that to me, especially with Mike and Tre saying things like "These songs are going to blow their minds!" "This is fucking genius!". Be honest, have any of these songs reached "genius" levels? Or have you had your "mind blown"? And this is all my opinion, so I don't want to hear any "Aw you're a troll!", "You're a hater!" comments just because I'm saying what's on my mind. If you don't agree with it then ok. If you have a problem with it: http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/10866563.jpg
inthehallwaynow Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Idk bout anyone else and I dont really care but for me every new song they've put out is really rad and im not saying that as like someone who loves everything Green Days does im very judgmental but for me this trilogy is really hitting the spot for me I believe its been a hugely creative time for the band and im enjoying every second of it.

Anyways, I don't have a problem with people disliking the song. I'm just puzzled that there is no way in pleasing people with simple music anymore these days. Besides that, in my opinion SWTRLF is a very driven catchy song. And I don't care if the lyrics don't hold a lot if deep meaning. I have other Green Day songs to listen to, to fill up that hole for myself. This song pleases me quite well and made me more anxious for Dos

If anything I'm one of the few people on here who don't get their panties tied in a knot if someone criticizes my opinion, and I always back up what I have to say, I don't just throw it out there. Cliff hangers aren't my style, I'll feed the baby birds. I never say things like "Hey I think this song sucks!", I give reasons as to why I feel the way I do, which seems to piss people off more for some odd reason, even though all I'm doing is trying to get people to see from my POV. But I guess it isn't very bright to say something different from a lot of other people and explain why, because they don't want to think about and hear stuff like that. But then again common sense is a vestigial trait, internet personas prove that. And I personally have no problems with simple music, but just because its simple doesn't mean that it can't be complex. wow had no idea people hate this song so much oh well they'll come around. lol but i can't judge though only heard the little part on csi but i fucking loved it. and also can this whole 'let's compare every new gd song to every song ever existed' trend die already :angry okay now i heard the whole song and i get the hate i suppose same thing happened with kill the dj i dont understand the different tempos did gd realized it sounded better faster when it was too late. No, because they played this song a year ago at Red 7, it even had a little more to it back then than it does in the studio version. Little guitar sections and things like that. It might seem minor, but it added to the song.

Some of us waited to hear the full thing before judging it in order to give a properly formed opinion of the song. We've now heard it in full, and have judged it to be terrible.
The Forgotten Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 You people are too picky thinking every new song has to blow your minds, I think you set your expectations a little too high, even for Green Day.
