I guess the pet store way makes it a lot easier to "shop" because you get to look at many different breeds of dog at the same time all in one place. In the US you do need a license for your pet but hardly anyone checking up on you. Most pet store kittens & puppies are from 'puppy mills and catteries'. The conditions in those places are hideous...All they do is just crank out litter after litter with no proper care for the mother or puppies/kittens. We've had several of these mills shut down in Michigan and the condition those poor animals lived in made me literally sick to my stomach. I find it sad that people buy pets from pet stores when there are so many shelter animals that need homes or else they get euthanized. Even if one wants a purebred, there are tons of rescues for nearly every breed out there. I own (or I should say they own me..LoL) 3 purebred Pomeranians that are rescues. My Jitterz was an abuse case and took some time for him to trust, but now he's my sons best buddy...Goes everywhere with him and there's a bond there that will never be broken. Billie's puppy is adorable though. He can only hope that it's healthy and has no genetic problems they'd be unaware of unless the parents were on sight or they had contact with the breeder. It's like Russian roulette buying a pet from places like that. Just my 2 cents
Mykee Mexx Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Yes, pretty much every pet store. We also have Petco which is essentially Walmart but with pets. So in England where do you go when you want to buy a dog? So what happens with the puppies, when they grow bigger and no one buys them...?
