*withoutadoubt* Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I don't think what was referred to as Billie Joe's "substance abuse" was ever defined; I just think we assumed it was alcohol. But honestly, it could be anything. On that note, and before a huge 30 page debate starts about what he's on or not on, does it really matter? We are all worried about him and want him to be well no matter what his specific issues are.
Rumpelstiltskin Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I hope that Billie gets better. If it comes down to the tour being cancelled, I must admit, I will be disapponted, but understanding. I also would imagine they would reschedule any cancelled dates. I don't think what was referred to as Billie Joe's "substance abuse" was ever defined; I just think we assumed it was alcohol. Slave To The Network Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I also would imagine they would reschedule any cancelled dates. Of course they will. This is their job after all. If they had to cancel a whole bunch of concerts and then didn't reschedule, they wouldn't be making any tour money. Besides, none of them want Billie to be going through this right now. I'm sure they would all much rather be out playing and promoting their new music and it would break their hearts to just not do that even after Billie get's over his problems.
Schlappy Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Not sure if idiot is the right word. Just because you (and me) don't agree with JohnnyGold doesn't mean that he is an idiot. Just because his friend he worked with in Arizona gave Green Day a place to crash during a pre-dookie show, doesn't mean they're still that way. I thought it was commonly known that Billie is in for alcohol abuse. its less his opinion, more his crappy evidence he states as truth that i have a problem with. But yes idiot was probably the wrong word
gerardsangel4977 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Trust if bja was taking meth for over 20 years we would know just off his apperence... Yeah, prolonged exposure/addiction to that stuff really fucks people up, not just mentally but physically. Not an easy thing to hide. Whereas alcohol addiction and, even, some prescription meds are easier for your body to adjust to and function around, with far less visible symptoms.
Clockwise Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I really haven't talked about this a great deal, and there's a reason why. We could all speculate what's really going on, and a lot of us are probably close to the truth. There's really no harm in speculation, but there's no point. This was definitely a crazy thing, realizing your idols are human. Very strange for a lot of people. At the end of the day, we just have to wish him the best. I was at the Irving Plaza show, and I know that was the craziest Billie Joe I'd ever seen. It was extremely high energy and probably the most fun GD show I've been to. It's weird to me that the breaking point was just a few days after that show. I don't know, a lot of things to think about. And I do think that they overwork themselves for sure, and that's probably a big factor.
farley drexel hatcher Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Oh come on, green day have made no secret of the fact they did drugs back in the day, but I dare say they'd look a whole lot different if 20 years later they were still doing it to those extremes! Billie has spoken openly the last couple years about being almost afraid of drugs now he's older, that he is at an age where he worries about his heart, so who knows. The long treatment doesn't have to mean anything other than he's serious about getting healthy - physically and mentally
Cob Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 bj is obviously getting treatment for a meth addiction. these guys have been speed freaks for 20 years. the reason why information isnt being leaked out is because thats considered a "taboo" drug--its not sheek like heroin or coke, its not funny like alcohol. i worked for several years with a guy from arizona, he had a place out there when green day was touring pre-dookie. he said 2 things about them: 1) they never showered and the smelled like sh*t, and 2) they were blasting meth 24/7. i know a lot of their "newer" fans dont want to hear that, or understand that, but christ, insomniac is basically a documentary of a meth binge. geek stink breath? brain stew? the damn album is named INSOMNIAC. i remember even when american idiot came out, being in college, talking to some of my old friends, and every single person thought "boulevard of broken dreams" was about bj trying to kick meth. i mean... ... these f*ckin guys have been strung out for 2 decades. the first lines of uno even: coupled with mike saying that they "hadnt slept in days and it got the best of bja." you do the math. im sure he was up for about a week straight, on a bender, absolutely snapped at that radio one gig, and the label said, in no uncertain terms: get clean before you go out and promote these albums. considering these guys have been blasting lines of meth for 20 years, the "getting clean" process is going to take awhile, im sure. They've never been meth heads. They've always been adamant about their experimentation with drug use, and time and time again they've talked about how disgusting they thought crystal meth was. It's why Billie Joe wrote "Geek Stink Breath" and why he hated the original version of "Basket Case" he had written. If they were always on meth they would not look the way they do, meth addiction has serious repercussions on your health and appearance (look at pictures of people addicted to meth or other bands during their time in the 90's, you'll see what I mean). In that video of "She" he's strung out on acid, they used it a lot back in those days but they never got into it as much as others have because it wasn't a buzz, same reason they don't smoke cigarettes They're like Metallica: they're drinkers. Look at The Network and the "Church of Lushotology" and the Foxboro Hot Tubs record. And of course they love pot but that's a whole other deal.

Mar Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I'm glad this was posted. Yes it's vague but it's a good way of finally hearing some news and letting the fans know that the possibility of the first part of the tour being canceled is more realistic than some had hoped. Still hope it doesn't come to that...it's weird, to want more than anything for Billie to be well and healthy, but not feel selfish in wanting the tour to go on as normal and not want any more canceled events. That's exactly how I feel, Jaymee. I think it's a good way to soften the blow. Honestly? I'm now expecting not to see them any time soon (even though my concert isn't until January and it sounds more like the November and December dates are obviously the ones most affected, I'm a pessimist), and I'm fucking gutted, but that's just because I'm fucking pathetic and have nothing else going in my life but looking forward to concerts and shit. I hope I'm wrong - for my selfish sake, for the fans' sake AND, most importantly, for Billie, the band, the crew, the venues' sakes, etc. One of the things that sucks (not to sound like a selfish asshole) is that this is the only thing I can associate the trilogy with now. But, better he get help now or go the route of so many tragic musicians before him. All that matters is that he's healthy & happy, everything & everyone else can wait. This makes me sad. It sounds really serious, and I'm glad they're taking care of it. Billie's lucky to have such caring people in his life, and I'm happy that he's putting his health first. That's the most important thing. At the same time though, this makes me really sad considering the trilogy. I don't want the trilogy to be associated with this difficult time that Billie, and the band, are facing. I don't want to think that Green Day's tremendous inspiration and creativity - as well as generosity and love for their fans - is what may have contributed to this issue. You know? Considering that making those three albums (fairly quickly) and putting so much effort into them, and the doing all this promotion for the new records, it seems really bittersweet. That such wonderful new music in a way led directly to Billie becoming worn out and thus needing treatment for substance abuse. It's really depressing. This should have been the best time in their careers - releasing THREE new albums and just being in such a creative space, and hopefully being really successful in their ambition. That's what I, and probably everyone, had hoped for. And this is just really unfortunate timing that's putting a damper on the whole thing. I wish that Billie gets well soon. I was looking forward to them maybe performing an the AMAs (right after Dos comes out) and seeing them on other shows, though that's looking less likely unfortunately. But I understand that Billie needs to take all the time he needs to get well. If he doesn't, that could just make the problem worse. So despite this being really serious - maybe more so than I had thought - I hope that Billie stays positive and gets 100% healthy soon. Couldn't have agreed with these posts more. This is a tremendous undertaking and it just makes me sad that without promotion, Dos and maybe Tre could fall at the wayside in terms of the public consciousness (please note, I'm not blaming ANYONE for anything, just being realistic). How the fuck is Dos going to stand a chance against One Direction's album (out the same date) in terms of sales without publicity? Uno got clobbered by Mumford & Sons even with "hype" from iHeartRadio. By Nov. 13, people will have forgotten about that incident (although that MAY be a good thing, let's be real) and it'll land with a thud. It would just break my heart to see that happen for the band's sake. I know that success isn't everything, but without promotion, fewer people can love the album and that's what makes me sad and really frustrated. Again, it is what it is, in the grand scheme of things it matters nothing compared to Billie's health. We still don't know, Rolling Stone says he "checked into rehab" but when you click that link it just takes you to an article about the original statement about him seeking treatment for substance abuse. Cavallo says he's "under medical supervision" which isn't necessarily rehab in a rehab centre/outside the home. I'd say him being IN rehab is nothing more than a rumour, I haven't seen any evidence for it. Either way he's getting treatment though, it doesn't really matter. Yep, well said. I highly doubt it's anything inpatient; I doubted that when we saw him using his phone right after.
Cob Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 They do smoke cigs, though. Or at least Billie does. Just saying. Really? I don't think they smoke cigarettes...joints yes...maybe though BJ does use "cigarette" a lot in his lyrics hahaha
karma1215 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I'm glad the doctors are monitoring his progress... seems to me we lost stars way too soon because their management would put them back on stage and they were still fucked up...I'm talking specifically about Amy Whinehouse/ Michael Jackson. It's not healthy to put a person in the limelight regardless of who they are on the stage and their one to two months just out of rehab. I recall Billie making that comment when he talked about Britney Spears in the Rolling Stone. He said that it was really crappy for her management to send her back on stage knowing she was still messed up. The same argument can be used in his case...as much as I want to see my favorite band play one more time... I want to see this band heal first. They will still be a mega band but there is only one Green Day....no one else can replace that sound no matter how many covers they try to emulate.

And I do think that they overwork themselves for sure, and that's probably a big factor. I've been thinking a lot about just what you said the last few weeks, too. First this - "realizing your idols are human." This realization hit me kinda hard, ESPECIALLY after being at the Irving Plaza show myself and also feeling that it was the best show I had ever experienced. There was just something about that night that was so amazing. I agree that there was something about Billie Joe that was - I don't know even how to describe it - maybe urgent or anxiously excited, I dunno. From the time he came out onstage to take pics of Lipstick Homicide and throughout, it was just like he was having a great time. (With exception for the fall from the speakers - that honestly scared the living crap outta me. I literally gasped.) There wasn't a negative feeling in the room, tho; it was electric. After the events of the next week unfolded, it just didn't make sense. It has left a lot to think about. I really just hope he takes the time he needs to get himself better.
Clockwise Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I Absolutely, it was the best show I've been to. I mean, they were having the time of their lives. Billie Joe was just on fire the entire night, more so than I'd ever seen. And that's really what I'd call the peak since the 2010 tour, they've just been having a great time doing what they love. It's a shame their good times had to come to a pause like this. And it makes me wonder what it'll be like after he's fully recovered.
ChelseaDagger Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I would say to anyone who does have tickets to the first part of the upcoming tour to hold out booking travel/hotel - just in case. Because a concert ticket will be refunded but those things are trickier and at least that way the only downside is no show, not losing out on all the other money. Yes I'm glad I didn't book my flights to California yet......... though I wish I could!!!!! My excitement is now cautious optimism Get better soon Billie xx
gerardsangel4977 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Really? I don't think they smoke cigarettes...joints yes...maybe though BJ does use "cigarette" a lot in his lyrics hahaha That, and there's plenty of footage of him smoking cigs.
blitzkriegdeb Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Really? I don't think they smoke cigarettes...joints yes...maybe though BJ does use "cigarette" a lot in his lyrics hahaha Have you seen the Oh Love video lol
Cob Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Have you seen the Oh Love video lol No I have not. I tried and I was bored out of my mind. Seriously I think that is probably their worst music video. But that's not important.
Mar Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Holy fucking shit this is a debate? REALLY? Wow it's like this showed up on my dash just now for a reason
Hermione Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 On that note, and before a huge 30 page debate starts about what he's on or not on, does it really matter? We are all worried about him and want him to be well no matter what his specific issues are. Exactly. Let's not have a debate about what he is or isn't on please, none of us have any idea about it anyway so speculating and guessing is pointless.
AngelBlue_ Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 It' a very sad situation It's like a terrible nightmare poor Billie  I hope he doesn't give up his fight .. he's Human like everyone else... I hope he doesn't undertimate the whole situation...and really fight for his life... It's a serious problem, and I hope Billie thinks about how life is important... I wish him the best  I know that a Rehab process takes a 90days treatement in most of the case....so I think we'll see Green day again after Christmas
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 There's a song that I keep listening to lately, and I keep applying it to Billie's situation in my head. One line is "Remember that we're strong, even as we fall." And later: "This war I'm fighting, how it turns me inside out, and I don't know if you'd love me if you saw me right now - would you?" The song is called Don't Ever Give Up On Me. I'm sure Billie will overcome this, and he has the personal strength as well as a loving family, friends, and us fans. We'll all be here for him for as long as it takes, because we just want him to be happy and healthy. As difficult of a time as this is, it will get better before we know it, and soon they'll be back to really enjoy this whole trilogy era like they should.
EmmaCharlatan&Saints Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 No I have not. I tried and I was bored out of my mind. Seriously I think that is probably their worst music video. But that's not important. Off topic but you profile pic is awesome dude. Clockwork Orange + Green Day = EPICNESS. But yeah he should take as much time as he needs. Like someone mentioned earlier he said it sucked that Britney Spears managment threw her back on stage when she wasnt ready and it was terrible to watch I know people make fun of it now but she had a serious breakdown yknow and as with anyone in her situation I.e Stage performers it suck to send someone back out when they arent ready. At the least it pushes their recovery back at worst they can end up dead. (Not saying Billie is dying.. ) I was talking to someone on twitter and the selfishness was mind boggling. He should pull his shit together this hes letting fans down that. Also he thinks he should be fine cause its alcohol and seemingly not drugs. This naivity is really insane alcohol can do just as much damage as drugs but some people fail to see that. Anyway he can take as much time as he likes its his health, his family and friends are the main priority
Kristy_TheIdiot Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I don't know how to take your comments on here considering you have stuff in your sig. about the breakdown I just thought it was strong, and I don't update my signature for a while. and yes, I'm really worried
Firecracker Lell Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I just hope he gets well! One of the most annoying things is those comments on Instagram. Whenever he posts a pic ( I mean recently ), there are some comments like " Come to ----- ", " When will you come to ....., ... loves you " & some worse ones " You could drink less idiot ", " Ugly little emo fag ", " ughh!! My money's all gone!! What am I gonna do? " , " Couldn't you drink/take drugs another time? " & many more that I feel sorry for all of them! I think it's a bit unfair to say these kinda stuff! Some ppl think Billie Joe is an immortal fallen angel from the sky just for the sake of entertaining them & making music! " He IS human, like the rest of us! " this is one really important point that some people gotta understand before anything! He's no exception, he gets sick & has problems like everyone!! And he doesn't have any anti-alcohol or anti-illness hormones in his body! If you think he does & he haven't got the right to get better or get treatment, you're so damn stupid!! Making music isn't an obligation for him! If you care for your money, your entertainment & those kinda stuff more than someone's life, then it's really sad! You don't have to be that aggressive! To quote Adrienne: " Sometimes we just need a moment to reset ourselves... Thanks for all the love & support #gdfamily " and now it's Billie's time to do it Generally, I guess his life is the most important thing! We shouldn't offend someone if we don't know about them clearly! Sorry if I messed up, these were just a bunch of my opinions Rage & Love Billie Joe!
