teresa1988 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I saw Billie's posts on instagram and I was thinking, that everything is going to be fine. And now I see this article and I don't know, what should I think. I'm really worry about him, because, to be honest, we don't know anything for sure. I'm waiting for another official statement from the band. I feel the same way like you at the moment. We know that he is getting help and that's good, but we don't know for sure how he is getting on with it. I am really worried too after this article.
Marrymebilliejoe Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 One: People on Instagram need to stop think they know it all. They don't. I am happy Billie said something. I feel sorry for that guy too. Two: This article was an overall good thing. It finally cleared up any misconception about Billie pulling a "stunt" or whatever. This is a serious situation and people need to recognize that. And, granted, it may take a long while for Billie to get back where he needs to be, he is still here with us! I don't want to say I'm "glad" he had his little rant or anything, but I think that it was a wake-up call for himself. Better to realize that you need help before it's too late. I am just thankful he is still here with us and fixing things. I don't know what I'd do without Billie. He is someone I really respect not only as a songwriter, musician, but also as a person.
Hermione Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I feel the same way like you at the moment. We know that he is getting help and that's good, but we don't know for sure how he is getting on with it. I am really worried too after this article. That's all the article has told us though, that he's getting help and no one knows how long it'll take. We already knew that. I guess having it spelled out makes it hit home a little harder but really that's been the case all along. It's natural to worry but remember Billie's getting help, he's doing the best thing he could be doing. That'll take as long as it takes, in the mean time all we can do is wish him the best.
Slave To The Network Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I just talked to my mom, who knows a lot about medical stuff, and asked her what exactly "medical supervision" means in the context of rehab. She said that basically he's probably doing it from his home, but he is getting the help he needs from the doctors such as monitoring the detox and giving him any medicines that he needs to help his body cope with the withdrawal, like if he needs minor sedation to be able to sleep etc. Anyway, she thinks that he will be absolutely fine since he is getting this treatment in the first place. It would be a problem if he wasn't in rehab, but since he's getting the help he needs, everything will be okay, it will just take how ever long it needs to. I feel a bit better now and I hope this makes you guys feel better too.
Mary711 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Hmm. I'd just like to give him a big hug and send him some energy to get through this. Everything seems to be so pointless when it comes to one's health.
gerardsangel4977 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 You're really overstating how much promotion they've done. 10 or 11 gigs over August/September, followed by two award shows. Their TV show appearances are a song or two at most. Much of the promotion has actually been online stuff and advertising tie-ins, such as the recent CSI soundtrack. That's not to say Green Day don't work hard, because clearly they do. And yes, traveling through Europe gets tiring. But they're a band - they play shows. It's what they do. It's altogether more likely that Billie has had a growing problem for a while, and it just came to head at a busy time. To blame the trilogy is, I think, a little misguided. Consider the promotion for American Idiot, or even 21CB. Look at how hard other artists have to work to promote their work. If anything, now - before the real touring begins - is the quietest time for the band! Either way, good to hear an update from Rob. Billie will get there in time, I'm sure. I agree. I don't think the trilogy promo was the cause of everything, but I'm sure it probably compounded the problems. Tired, cranky people are not the best at confronting and/or dealing with things Finally someone explained this to me. Because when I first read that he's in rehab I was like ''Oh my God!!'' Because from what I know, going to rehab is something like when they take you to another country, they drug you with medicine, you have no contacts with the world, your friends, family. And then you live there in that institution with many other people, do something productive every day and stay there for like 5, 6, 7 or even more years. But then he posted pics of himself, and Adie... And I was like.. ''What the actual f***?!'' ._. Oh, thanks you. No problem I'm just really worried because I've been planning my trip to Chicago and Philadelphia to see them and it takes up time and money. I don't want to sound selfish but I can't help it. My mom will cut my head off if everything goes wrong. I'm sure that they will try to give people a decent notice if they have to cancel anything....you can still make plans but I would hold off on actually buying any plane tickets or hotel reservations yet. The smartest comment on this situation yet Trust me, I know my psychology, and talented people who drink and use drugs don't have it easy. Billie probably goes from extreme highs to extreme lows, and has delutions of grandiosity. Mentally, you can compare him to an out of control 16 year old kid who thinks he's god (and it doesn't help when you have people telling him he is)..lol. I'm sure when he's sober he's the most down to earth happy mother fucker on the planet, so let's just pray he gets there again. Since they started promoting UNO I could really see a strange look in Billie's eyes like he was about to lose it..ha! "I still feel like we're writing [our legacy]. You can't think about it when you're in it. I still feel immortal. I still feel like a fucking superhero. I'm just going to keep doing it 'til my superpowers are gone." -- Billie Joe Armstrong, Alternative Press, October 2012
jacknovella Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I think above all this just serves as a sobering reminder that Billie Joe as well as Mike and Tre are only human, no matter how much we idolize them and think they can go on forever. I'm sure Billie is doing reasonably well if he feels up to updating his Instagram. I for one will find it a lot harder to listen to a song like Amy now, especially because it relates to Billie Joe in some ways now, and especially if this has been a long running issue, it would certainly have impacted the writing of that song, there may be a hint of his own demons in the lyrics.
.Holly Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Hmm, I've been wondering for a while if they should delay the release of DOS if Billie's not on his feet by then. It's a shame to release the albums when they can't do any shows or promotion stuff. Surely it's quite an exciting time when a new album comes out, and they're missing out on making the best of it. It might be affecting sales to some extent too. I just think they're not getting the most out of all their hard work and creativity
San Miguel Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 it is certainly sobering to read anything about this situation - but all we can do is hope Billie makes a full recovery.
basketcase85 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Sad to hear that more shows may be cancelled, but the most important thing is Billie taking his time and getting better.
EastCaitNowhere Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Well this cleared a lot of things up... Either way, I don't really care how long it takes, all that matters is that Billie gets the help he needs.
serenade_xx Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 at least now we know he's really taking the time he needs to get better. It surely is hard for him to know that they have to cancel shows and promo stuff...We can only hope he'll be better soon, that's the only important thing right now...
fuckyeahgreendayfans Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I have a really bad gut feeling we're not going to see green day at Seattle in November well right now im more worried if its more serous then we thought
karma1215 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 The important thing is his life. He is still alive maybe not performing at present but still alive!!! This gives me hope.
justcause Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 It's good that someone made this statement - it's like stop the world, and make space for what's important. He can be quiet and heal, he can write and make music, he can keep in touch, and know that he's surrounded by love. Meanwhile, we have this store-housed trilogy of music provided for us - way enough to take us to whenever his comeback comes.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Something tells me Rob was trying to soften the inevitable blow of future cancellations...Billie must be really bad if it will potentially take until after Christmas to get back on his feet. That's three months (from when it started) and that is seriously serious in my humble opinion. I have loved bands/artists who've done rehab for alcohol/drug addiction before and especially during tours/promotion they never seemed to be longer than 30 days. Makes me think his problems run deeper...makes me think of what Mike said about him having his own "struggles" and to be honest it makes me really genuinely sad and worried for Billie. In all honesty despite his instagram updates (i think he has proven up to the iheart incident that he is capable of smiling through whatever is going on below the surface thus i am reluctant to take his updates at face value anymore...he really is a good actor) i am still very concerned about the guy who has given me the soundtrack to the last ten years or more of my life...i know i won't be affected by potential cancellations but fuck it...even if they refuse to tour the entire Trilogy Tour (not just the US) then do be it...as far as im concerned i owe Billie Joe Armstrong my life and he owes his fans nothing because he has given us his heart and soul already. Sorry if its sappy but im feeling emotional after reading that.
Jack [DF] Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 This is awful. I really hope Billie gets the treatment he needs. I would be devastated were something to happen, and not just as a fan. I can't stand hearing about people dying or whatever because of drugs; I just shake my head and wonder why people do it. T his is exactly why drugs aren't worth it. One minute you're under control and the next you're under supervision. xtruetilldeathx
JohnnyGold Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 bj is obviously getting treatment for a meth addiction. these guys have been speed freaks for 20 years. the reason why information isnt being leaked out is because thats considered a "taboo" drug--its not sheek like heroin or coke, its not funny like alcohol. i worked for several years with a guy from arizona, he had a place out there when green day was touring pre-dookie. he said 2 things about them: 1) they never showered and the smelled like sh*t, and 2) they were blasting meth 24/7. i know a lot of their "newer" fans dont want to hear that, or understand that, but christ, insomniac is basically a documentary of a meth binge. geek stink breath? brain stew? the damn album is named INSOMNIAC. i remember even when american idiot came out, being in college, talking to some of my old friends, and every single person thought "boulevard of broken dreams" was about bj trying to kick meth. i mean... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abCuxqF-uPk... these f*ckin guys have been strung out for 2 decades. the first lines of uno even: coupled with mike saying that they "hadnt slept in days and it got the best of bja." you do the math. im sure he was up for about a week straight, on a bender, absolutely snapped at that radio one gig, and the label said, in no uncertain terms: get clean before you go out and promote these albums. considering these guys have been blasting lines of meth for 20 years, the "getting clean" process is going to take awhile, im sure.
Schlappy Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 i'm sorry but you're an idiot... welcome to the forum
WhiteTim Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Trust if bja was taking meth for over 20 years we would know just off his apperence...
deadair Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 i'm sorry but you're an idiot... welcome to the forum Not sure if idiot is the right word. Just because you (and me) don't agree with JohnnyGold doesn't mean that he is an idiot. Just because his friend he worked with in Arizona gave Green Day a place to crash during a pre-dookie show, doesn't mean they're still that way. I thought it was commonly known that Billie is in for alcohol abuse.

They have always been open about their casual meth use back in the nineties. They've also made it clear that they haven't been super into recreational drug use since they've had kids, they've never said they don't do it at all. Also, I think there's a moment in the last BBC Radio 1 interview in which Billie mentions he's on pills. I really have no idea what it is, but I doubt it's meth addiction. Compare the Jaded in Chicago show to the iHeartRadio show, Billie is fucked up in a much different way.
