So was/is Billie actually IN rehab or is it still a rumor and it's possible he's seeking treatment from home or something similar? It's ridiculous to believe everything you hear that's not from a reliably Green Day source, take it all with a fucking massive bucket full of salt!

One of the things that sucks (not to sound like a selfish asshole) is that this is the only thing I can associate the trilogy with now. :(

But, better he get help now or go the route of so many tragic musicians before him. All that matters is that he's healthy & happy, everything & everyone else can wait.

Dude Rob Cavallo is a reliable Green Day source

I'd say that Rob Cavallo is a pretty reliable source, better than Tre's ex wife or whoever.

sometimes when I read these articles about Billie I still think it's just a nightmare, I can't believe it's true...

Health is more important ...if they cancel for a later date than I'm fine with that. Billie had to shut some dude down on Instagram for saying that Green Day was no longer punk rock...that they should go back to their old roots etc, etc..., the guy's comment was subsequently out of line and Billie just simply said that he was wrong and he felt sorry for him....it got deleted from his instagram.

We still don't know, Rolling Stone says he "checked into rehab" but when you click that link it just takes you to an article about the original statement about him seeking treatment for substance abuse. Cavallo says he's "under medical supervision" which isn't necessarily rehab in a rehab centre/outside the home. I'd say him being IN rehab is nothing more than a rumour, I haven't seen any evidence for it. Either way he's getting treatment though, it doesn't really matter.

Both this article and Mike's interview just make me sad. I had no idea that it was so serious. Billie Joe has always joked about being a drunk (like when he talked about peeing in his closet, for instance), and I have been amazed at his stamina when they are on tour, so I guess I thought of him as being a (tiny) rock. He knows how to make himself vulnerable, wearing his emotions on his sleeve. I just didn't want him to be so vulnerable.

go billie, that guy needed to be told off. i'd be pretty annoyed too if people kept telling me that my music wasn't "good" anymore.

its weird reading the article and then seeing him post pics on instagram cause in one way we're like Yay hes getting better it shouldn't be long now cause hes posting stuff again..and then you have an article like this which makes it seem like hes still not doing that great.. i've got mixed emotions haha

Well, he is okay in the sense that he's not bedridden. Hence, instagram photos.

I think he's at home judging by his posts but he might not have always been. Bit gutting hearing this though it could be a way of letting us know that at the minute it really could go either way. And even if he is starting to get better now, getting out there too soon could be a recipe for disaster.

Taking everything together, it seems prety safe to say that Billie is receiving outpatient treatment from his home, rather than having been checked into an actual facility anywhere. That was assumption made by journalists based on Green Day's statement and was never corroborated by any other source.

Oh my god. Was on twitter came across a seriously selfish tweet. To paraphrase. ''Billie better get his shit together. He's leaving the fans down.'' Uggghh

I blame the over-promotion, all of the tv appearances, and just plastering UNO everywhere. Jesus christ this isn't some newbie band. Green Day will always top the charts no matter how many facebook likes they get or how many tv performances at the ass crack of dawn.

If I were Billie or Mike or Tre, I'd be exhausted as fuck by now too. And probably resort to ways of keeping my energy up.

They should have skipped being on all the stupid shows and interviews and just do what they do best. Play live around the country.

They got burnt out before they even started

This article makes me feel like he might have been "in rehab" for a short time - maybe to just dry out and then was sent home to continue "treatment" there. Via inside/outside meetings and possibly therapy. Kind of make sense that he'd need both if the problem, as Mike insinuated, was important to keeping him alive.

But it's all a guess, really, He just needs to get better, however long it takes, it takes.

I'm glad someone finally said this. It just started to really annoy me that a lot of people said it was promotion for their triology. Still it's kind of sad to hear this, it is everytime we get to know some more about it. I really hope Billie takes his time, no matter how many shows they'll have to delay or cancel.

You're really overstating how much promotion they've done. 10 or 11 gigs over August/September, followed by two award shows. Their TV show appearances are a song or two at most. Much of the promotion has actually been online stuff and advertising tie-ins, such as the recent CSI soundtrack. That's not to say Green Day don't work hard, because clearly they do. And yes, traveling through Europe gets tiring. But they're a band - they play shows. It's what they do.

It's altogether more likely that Billie has had a growing problem for a while, and it just came to head at a busy time. To blame the trilogy is, I think, a little misguided. Consider the promotion for American Idiot, or even 21CB. Look at how hard other artists have to work to promote their work. If anything, now - before the real touring begins - is the quietest time for the band!

Either way, good to hear an update from Rob. Billie will get there in time, I'm sure.

It's really scary. We must just hope for the best. And try to don't go crazy, but it's hard. OH SHIT. first mike looks calm and soothing, seems to say that things are better and that the worst is over.. THEN this interview to Rob where the situation seems even dramatic, but wtf?!

Posted

I'm really, really worried about Billie! The fact that there haven't been any specific details released just makes the whole situation that much scarier. Did you guys see what Mike said at the end of that Rolling Stone article? What he said sounded like Billie's life could be in danger. Did you guys interpret it that way or am I just catastrophizing? I don't like this and I feel like I'm going to cry! I just want Billie to be okay! If something happened to him... I don't even want to think about it.

Posted

Just got devastated. I hope it will be all done soon. Getting these updates is better than just waiting.

But what makes me hopeful is that I know billie is a strong man and he's got a family and friends who are there for him. I'll pray for him tonight

fuck the 'overreacting'

I'm genuinely sad after reading this, knowing Billie was in need of medical care. Its just so hard to you know, realize they're humans too. Idk. God I love him

Seriously arguing with this guy on twitter. He is feeling sorry for himself. Saying Bilie should pull his shit together. That he should be fine now after this amount of time. Some people make me want to bang my head off a wall.

This makes me sad. It sounds really serious, and I'm glad they're taking care of it. Billie's lucky to have such caring people in his life, and I'm happy that he's putting his health first. That's the most important thing.

At the same time though, this makes me really sad considering the trilogy. I don't want the trilogy to be associated with this difficult time that Billie, and the band, are facing. I don't want to think that Green Day's tremendous inspiration and creativity - as well as generosity and love for their fans - is what may have contributed to this issue. You know? Considering that making those three albums (fairly quickly) and putting so much effort into them, and the doing all this promotion for the new records, it seems really bittersweet. That such wonderful new music in a way led directly to Billie becoming worn out and thus needing treatment for substance abuse. It's really depressing.

This should have been the best time in their careers - releasing THREE new albums and just being in such a creative space, and hopefully being really successful in their ambition. That's what I, and probably everyone, had hoped for. And this is just really unfortunate timing that's putting a damper on the whole thing.

I wish that Billie gets well soon. I was looking forward to them maybe performing an the AMAs (right after Dos comes out) and seeing them on other shows, though that's looking less likely unfortunately. But I understand that Billie needs to take all the time he needs to get well. If he doesn't, that could just make the problem worse. So despite this being really serious - maybe more so than I had thought - I hope that Billie stays positive and gets 100% healthy soon. :)
