porksoda Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I love the fan interaction, it brings an element that you won't find at other shows. But I also love they're playing more intimate venues, because that also increases fan interaction. Maybe not a band to play Knowledge, but the Green Day is right there, rocking out to, for, and with you. And that's awesome. But I'm making a point to learn almost every Green Day song on guitar to be prepared for this next tour.
.Holly Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I went up to sing know your enemy in the 21cb tour. Best moment ever!!!! Still can't believe it happened. I think other folks should get that chance I hope they keep doing it.
Alex R. Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I love the fan participation, I mean it keeps the energy going throughout the concert ! I think they should keep doing that, It means a lot for fans to have a chance to be on stage with their favorite band, it's like a dream comes true ! Anyway, Billie loves his fans ! And now we're going to have 36 new songs, so probably there will be a new fans participations (playing guitar, sing, stage dive...) I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that ! In some interview Billie Joe said they're not sure if they'll keep doing that anymore... You still have the interview please ?
tvrman Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 In some interview Billie Joe said they're not sure if they'll keep doing that anymore... I remember that, he was being asked lots of questions but I did not take it as 'no more fans on stage'. He was just saying do not expect it at every gig. It might have been the same interview or a different one that he also highlighted how they approach gigs differently according to the size of venue and the audience. eg Opening with All By Myself (at the SBE.... just going back in time to remember that for a moment....) is not going to happen at a festival. I think Billie just decides on the fly, depending on the atmosphere, crowd reaction, his mood etc on any particular night.
hamza_elyoubi Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 They should keep longview and reduce some "heeey hooo" for more music
Pieces of Truth Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The only annoying thing about asking people on stage to play instruments is that no left handed people can play the guitars. SOMEBODY THINK OF THE LEFTIES! true.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The only annoying thing about asking people on stage to play instruments is that no left handed people can play the guitars. SOMEBODY THINK OF THE LEFTIES! Hahaha I never thought of that, although I'm left handed and play guitar right handed. I love the hey-ohs, maybe he overdoes them sometimes but there are songs that sound better with him getting the fans to sing, like for example the She and East Jesus Nowhere on Awesome As Fuck. I'd like them to cut out the medleys and just play a full cover of one song instead. It's great the first time but if you go to back-to-back concerts you really can't be bothered the second night. Whereas if they played like Blitzkrieg Bop one night, Bastards Of Young another, My Generation every now and again, it would be more interesting.
BradGreenDay Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I Love it when Billie goes HEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9au3tGAqng
Nemo. Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I hope they still do that, what they did during Paper Laterns/ 2.000 Light years away. Bringing ~ 50 people on stage
Lauren Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The only thing they did at Irving Plaza was bring a kid up on stage to stage dive during Know Your Enemy, but that wasn't an arena show, so I understand the reasoning for lack of participation.
ExtraordinaryGirl23 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Billie will pull me up during fuck time to well.. " fuck me "
Mike of Suburbia Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Personally I'm wondering if they'll do the whole Longview "come up and sing" or the Jesus of Suburbia "come up and play guitar" with any of the new songs. I think that'd be REALLY cool
kerplunk_chick Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 more fan participation -> longer songs new albums -> more songs longer songs + more songs = longer concerts I like your math!
TheGreenDayKidd Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The only annoying thing about asking people on stage to play instruments is that no left handed people can play the guitars. SOMEBODY THINK OF THE LEFTIES! Oh god! I didn't even think on that?! Well I'm not left handed person, but i fell sorry for lefties!
Beathe. Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I think it's fun that they bring fans up on stage. But when they did the whole Knowledge thing it used up too much time in my opinion. Hope they'll do something new on this tour.
Isabel Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The fan participation is one of the things that makes me value Green Day's live shows over any other band's live shows. Not many people can say "Yeah, I've sung on stage with my favourite band in front of 10,000+ people." I just love how something that seems so effortless for the boys to do, like bringing someone up to play or sing, can mean so much to that person. Almost 3 years later and my experience is still something that I think about all the time, and still shake my head over. Was the best thing that has ever happened to me, I've never felt more alive in my whole life than when I was on that stage with them The very first GD show I ever went to was in 2005 where they were doing the Knowledge piece each time, asking people to come up and play. Unfortunately, they ended up wasting a bunch of time because the girl that Billie Joe picked for guitar at this particular show was all the way up in the balcony seats and it took her ages to get down to the floor and then on to the stage. Then it transpired that she was only about 11 years old and couldn't actually play the song at all...turns out her Dad was the one yelling for her to get on stage. Felt so bad for her, they had to pick someone else.
Harriet Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The only annoying thing about asking people on stage to play instruments is that no left handed people can play the guitars. SOMEBODY THINK OF THE LEFTIES! This is why I'm glad I can play drums both ways! I like the fan participation, but if they drop some of it to make room for more songs that's cool. The thing about pulling people up to form a band or whatever is that it takes time out of the show to find people and get them on/off stage that could be used to fit in another song or two. That said, given the chance I would kill to play on stage with Green Day

That is what it's all about, making a fan's night (er.. life really). Getting on stage to sing with Green Day is one of those things that you wish for on 11:11 EVERY FUCKING TIME. Haha. It would suck for them to get rid of fan participation. But if they want to make the shows longer to fit in some more songs, I won't mind.
Marrymebilliejoe Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Here's what Billie has to say to all the people who think he overuses his "heyyy ohh's" Haha, I like them
Forever Now Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I would just like it if Billie would cut some "hey-oooo"s out so they can play more songs in their sets... Same!
BradGreenDay Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Here's what Billie has to say to all the people who think he overuses his "heyyy ohh's" Haha, I like them Genius...
GreenDayisAmazing Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I personally think the participation makes Green Day over the top amazing, 3 hours of non-stop fun, they actually talk to the fans and include us in the show! Every time I get the change to write about Green Day in concert at school I do or any chance I get to tell people about how amazing they are live I do. I think it sucks see bands that have no participation or just have a boring show where they don't acknowledge the fans. I will tell people Green Day are the best band I've ever seen live and they say yeah because their your favorite band I tell them No because they seriously know how to put on a great show. Really how many other bands play for almost 3 hours pretty much non stop on stage, only other band I've seen play a set that long was Foo Fighters. How many other bands invited fans onstage I've only seen Hollywood Undead and Weezer do it both for the radio stations contest, I've seen HU 4 times and they only had one person 1 time go on stage for winning the contest. Green Day invites lots of random fans on stage you don't have to be the lucky one person to win a contest. Ohh yeah how many bands give away guitars and let the fans kiss and hug them. My parents, sisters and brothers favorite band may not be Green Day, but we all agree they had the best concerts we have ever seen before!

I would NEVER in a million years sing in front of ANYONE, let alone an arena size crowd. But when it's for Green Day then fuck every single thing in the world, I'm doing it. When are you ever going to get another chance like it??
Slave To The Network Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I don't think Green Day will ever get rid of fan participation, not entirely. That's what drives them. That's who they are and it's part of what makes them such incredible musicians and people. If anything, the mode of participation may shift to accommodate more songs and their mood states, but it will never disappear. It's in their blood. Especially Billie's. I think whatever their shows are like this time will be just as amazing as any other time.
