.Holly Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Its nothing like that. This is half of the chorus. Not just a single word. Carpe Diem A battle cry <-- Your long lost son Aren't we all Too young to die <-- Heroes and cons Ask for reason And no reply <-- A worker of pride Aren't we all Too young to die <-- Means to an end Sing the chorus with these lines replacing the ones originally there. The melody is the exact same. Literally the EXACT same. If the last line ended with a word that rhymed with pride it would have been perfect. the melody is 4 syllables. I'm guessing there aren't an infinite number of 4 syllable melodies that fit into this punchy kind of chorus. Anyways, the tempos of the 2 songs at the points you're refering to make them sound very different in my opinion. Back to stray heart....I've still refrained from listening but have had stop, drop and roll!!! On repeat whilst doing my marking to make up for it :-D
Rusty Hart Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 "Ohh and I'm where I belong" i think "Ohh and now I'm where I belong" i heard now there
cj_unoxx Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Great bass, I agree with other people on this thread..................but I feel like I'm the only one that's not really into this song. It's just sort of the same over and over.........it also sounds like Billie is singing with his mouth closed. Hope I like the rest of Dos better. Adnajksndfjsanldjkfbskljgnjrsngjlsergnrslnglrsk it feels like blasphemy. Yes I noticed that, this is like the first time I had a hard time understanding what he is saying, like the first line he said I thought he sang "I lost wittle baby, this stray heart" haha
GuitarPunk94 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 going through the day with a huge smile on my face this song is music at its best #fact i listened to the live recordings from the secret show, but the studio version was like a completely new surprise...i just cant get enough of it, especially of the bass line! i rly hope stray heart will be the last single download from the box set and that it will be on iTunes soon and get many radio-playtime like Oh Love does
Sixtrix Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Yes I noticed that, this is like the first time I had a hard time understanding what he is saying, like the first line he said I thought he sang "I lost wittle baby, this stray heart" haha I thought the same when I heard it the first time I thought he went a little Elmer Fudd there until I checked the lyrics
cj_unoxx Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I thought the same when I heard it the first time I thought he went a little Elmer Fudd there until I checked the lyrics Lol that's exactly what I thought
Alan86 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Yeah. The THAT is really really clear in 'everything that I need, I need from you' I just saw that you had made the exact same point just above my post

WHO CARES? and tbh, what you wrote doesn't even sound alike
DannyDirnt Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I just saw that you had made the exact same point just above my post Yeah haha anyway I hope they see it and correct it
WestboundSign! Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Finally some more time to listen to this amazing track now!
petros Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 This song is awesome! The first song I really loved from the first listen...
Florence Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Also, very small change to the lyrics but I think it's: 'Everything that I want, I want from you . . . . . I hear a "that" ""Everything THAT I want........... Everything THAT I need......." EDIT: I just said the exact same thing as above doh!! I hear "that" too.
Mike of Suburbia Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I agree with most of the opinions on here...it's great, I love it, it's foxboro esqu but with their our little twist to it.
DannyDirnt Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 My friend heard Stray Heart, Fuck Time and Stop When The Red Lights Flash, and just so you see how good influence it can have: He said he loved them and that he's going to buy ¡Dos! because he wants CDs from varied artists (he likes rock and metal ). Then, he said it doesn't make sense to only buy ¡Dos! so thanks to those three songs he's going to buy all three albums. And he isn't a Green Day fan, he just thinks Green Day is pretty nice. Imagine the impact in people that already loved Oh Love.
CameronM. Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 THE FUCKING BASS LINE

I love how Green Day is loved, hated, respected It's like they're at an unique place haha
WrongWayToSalvation Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 WHO CARES? and tbh, what you wrote doesn't even sound alike Because they're reusing melodies from a song on their previous album. It isn't from an album that was released 10 years ago. And its the song's chorus which is usually the most memorable part of a song. And I'm sorry, but if you don't hear the similarities, despite the fact that its literally the exact same then you're kidding yourself and in denial. Taking part of a previous song's bridge and making it the chorus to another song is pretty bad. At least try to change the way its sung or something instead of it seemingly being a copy and paste job. Jesus some of you are so blind to critisism when it comes to them. Oh and uh Stray Heart yadda yadda.

DannyDirnt Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Because they're reusing melodies from a song on their previous album. Can you please indicate me where Carpe Diem sounds like 21st Century Breakdown?

Oh and uh Stray Heart yadda yadda. I don't want to claim I am a music critic and granted I am bias towards Green Day, however, people use the same melodies all the time and change the words. It's not like Green Day is the only one who uses this practices. Hell, some people on the radio nowadays are using other people's songs in their song (ex. Good Feeling by. FloRida) <- Now, that's some cutting and pasting crap right there. However, despite Green Day using maybe some of the same melodies or whatnot, I think the song sounds amazing! I find Green Day criticism hard to take, not gonna lie. But I don't think it's fair to call Green Day out, when bands and artists out there are doing much worse when it comes to composing their songs. Oh, and at least Green Day writes their own songs and music, it seems like most artists now a days just get their music handed to them and just lip-syncing..oops, I mean sing
DannyDirnt Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Trying not to overplay this and burn myself out but it's so hard. I played all the singles so much from Uno that I can't listen to them anymore, I don't want that to happen with this song but it's just too good to not listen to all day. Same. I'm trying not to play Stray Heart too much so I don't get sick or tired of it.
WrongWayToSalvation Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Yeah, though they sadly earn more hate with the iHeart festival. Also respect however Respect? From who? Saying fuck every other word and trying to make yourself sound important doesn't seem all that worthy of respect. We fucking get it, you've fucking been around since the late fucking 80s, fucking whooptie fucking doo! He made himself sound so pretentious. If that had been any other band people here would probably just write it off as a bitch fit. Also I laughed my ass off when Mike started slamming his bass on the ground when Billie started smashing his guitar. He just wanted to be popular
