americanidiot812 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I don't really know why but I dislike Jason. I was pretty disappointed to hear he's officially a member now...Green Day's always been three guys and other than 1039/SOSH it's always been just Billie, Mike, and Tre. I don't think they need an official second guitarist. I'd rather Jason be just a touring guitarist.
Heather. Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I think it sounds better when Billie does it, but IDGAF it's just screaming. It makes sense to have Jason do it, just like when Jason plays lead guitar... it gives Billie a break (and that kind of screaming is probably not good for his vocal chords, so it's probably better if Jason does it.)
Hermione Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Does Mike do any backing vocals on any of the new songs? Yeah when I saw them a few weeks ago he was doing backing vocals on both the new and old songs, just the same as always. So not to worry.

Jason has been a close part of the band for over a decade now, so I'm glad he's finally getting some recognition. I don't see how it changes things other than making the band a bit happier with how things are.
Schlappy Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 It doesnt matter to me but I'm still kinda torn cause i think it sounds better when Billie sings it but i get friken excited when jason does. idk, oh well
Asa. Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I personally like Jason's singing and I'm happy he's finally I'm the band. Hopefully he'll start doing some interviews with the band!
AwfulHomesick Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I don't mind Jason doing it but... Who. The. Hell. Cares? It's one detail of a whole song.
WhiteTim Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Sceaming takes alot out of a person and GD plays on average 20-30 songs a show its better if Jason does the gotta let it go parts
Sleeper Agent. Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 What'd Mike win to get the end of American Eulogy? Somethings are best left secret in the band
suicidexmakeover Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 He sounded a bit weird when he did it. Like at the end it sounded like a helium balloon being relseased haha bless him! But if it saves BIllie's voice then so be it!
joeysturkeyhead Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 This thread should be closed, it's one of those subjects that doesn't need their own thread.
Todd Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Jason seems like that depressed guy who isn't recognized for anything, so it's good that he's getting some recognition.
Hermione Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I think he's just a low key guy who doesn't care about the limelight. You can see from his face he enjoys performing, just seems to be his style to be a bit more subtle about things than the average band member. I agree it's nice to see him get recognition but I don't think he ever lacked it really, he's just contributing more now so he's getting more recognition accordingly.
Moriarty Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 He's like the guy who has Facebook but never posts a status update. He's always there, but never in the limelight. I like that about him.
Emilie Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 My ears bleed when Jason screams. Wow, we get it, you don't like Jason.
Slave To The Network Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 It really is funny how absent Jason is from any sort of center stage position. I realized that I have never actually even heard him speak. I know vaguely what his singing voice sounds like, but still, that's always in the background. I agree that Billie does do the screamy part better, but Jason does an alright job too. I also think it's funny how people keep mentioning that he did that part at the VMAs because Billie's throat was still kind of messed up from his horrible protracted vomiting episode. How many times does it need to be said? I think we've got it by now.
Jon Benjamin Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 People keep saying it's to save Billie's voice but as an ex-vocalist in a metalcore band I can say that if you scream right there is no harm done to your voice whatsoever. Plenty of vocalists scream then do great clean vocals ex. Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria), Stephen Keech (Haste The Day), Telle Smith (The Word Alive). Look them up if you haven't heard of them.

Jon Benjamin Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 i think Billie had some problems with his voice after he got ill in Italy.. so maybe that's why Jason is screaming in Let Yourself Go? Well yeah that's understandable, that was directed to people saying screaming damages your voice in general. They worry about that which if done right doesn't damage your voice or vocal cords at all but ignore the fact he smokes cigarettes, in time his voice will sound like shit from that unfortunately.

Over excessive screaming can harm your vocals over time...
Jon Benjamin Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Over excessive screaming can harm your vocals over time... I kinda take back what I said, over excessive, yeah because Mike Hranica (The Devil Wears Prada) has been doing it in that band since 2005 and his scream has changed and gotten shittier, but obviously the amount Billie does it isn't comparable

Guest MadeInRatCity Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Billie singing "let's yourself" repeatedly at the end of this song during live shows sounds great. Should've been in the studio record as well.
