The song just fits with the story from the albums. It's the end of the story.

I really don't see this as a "goodbye" song for the guys. The reason the music video is nostalgic and sad is because a) the guys aren't available right now to shoot a music video, so they used clips instead and did their best to blend it in with the movie clips by giving it an old home movie feel, and b) it's sad just because the song, for me, seems to relate a lot to the Billie's current situation, which has obviously made many of us sad. Plus, it is the end of the trilogy. I think it will likely be far easier to evaluate when put in context of Tre! and the trilogy as a whole.

I mean, of course there is a chance that after this, the guys will take a long hiatus after this. There is always that chance. It's always a guess as to how long it will take a band to find inspiration and make a new album, and how long they want to chill out with their families before hitting the road again.

I know everything feels so uncertain with the band right now. And I feel like all of us (DEFINITELY myself included) are looking for signs anywhere to tell us what the hell happens next. Because its scary, not knowing. But truly, I personally do not believe that this song is trying to tell us anything about the band's future. My take is that the feeling that this song is a "goodbye" song is more a reflection of the band's current state than how they were when the song was written/recorded, you know?

Fuck, yeah. Like, we were in the midst of the whole promo thing, everything revving up, people planning their show-trips and then iHeart happened and wham, everything shut down. We'd had this steady communication with the band that segued from Billie Joe's excited Tweets about the trilogy to the Instagram stuff, and now we're down to getting it from Press Releases. It's a fucking emotional time for Green Day fans, and this video played to those emotions.

Yeah, this video touched a nerve, and for me, it expressed something - not 'the end' of Green Day, but rather those cancelled shows, how the band's gotta be hurting for that, just like the fans are. This video is that moment, and if it feels mournful, well yeah it is, but it's also yearning towards when we all get to be together again. Didn't it make you wanna just be right there, right now at a fucking kick-ass Green Day show, and don't you know sure as fuck that's what Green Day's yearning for too?

So to this beautiful song - as an album closer, it sits with See the Light in terms of having been thru a journey; See the Light has this fucking great thing of 'I've done all this stuff and I don't know what I've got from it, I feel lost, I'm still searching', and it's so fucking cool to have the courage to end such a majestic album as 21CB on a note of uncertainty. For 'The Forgotten' - yeah, it feels like that, 'for the forgotten', an elegy for a time and the people of that time, to let it be known that they're not forgotten, not insignificant, to somehow pin it to the threads of time and so to let it go. The first instrumental break calls out to 'In My Life' - yeah, this is Beatles-drenched, and yeah, this is that kind of song, but whereas 'In My Life' has this sweet sense of outgrowing and finding something better, 'The Forgotten' doesn't have that comfort. It doesn't know what's coming next, in its empty-hallway, lost-child places; it only knows what it's always known - itself, and what it's learned. 'Don't look away', no matter how hard that is sometimes. Don't be oblivious to each important moment. Face down your nightmares, and let them inform and empower you. Open yourself to the love that surrounds you. There's this vision of 'the arms', this embrace, this will to say 'yes' to all of these experiences, these moments. These are rules for going forward - this is the breastplate of courage. This is a mighty song.

I'm not saying that I'm not going to tolerate the song or whatever, its still fucking them. I'm just a bit overwhelmed by all of the different promos this time through Angry Birds and a 30 minute CSI scene.

But hey, they're a big ass band, doing big ass things. After all, they're Green Day and can do whatever the fuck they want to.

listening to The Forgotten, am i seriously still the only one who thinks the trilogy is Green Day's last stuff?

 no, no way

I finally watched the video and the song is nice...that's the only way I can think of describing it. I guess I'm not really used to ballads like these. I kept waiting for some hard explosion of guitars or something, like what was found in "Restless Heart Syndrome." And it never came...the strings kind of threw me off, but it's something I can get used to. I think I have to hear the song again without the Twilight visuals and with the lyrics in front of me to really appreciate the song.

But I hated the video. The green day parts were fine of course, but I can't stand seeing those two Twilight people flying around in the background with cheesy CGI...no thanks.

I'm a little bothered by people saying this could be Green Day's last music. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but I really don't think the video or the song is trying to say anything about Green Day breaking up. The video was most likely made before any of the current issues occured. My take on the song is that it is about death and/or loss of some sort. Of course only Billie (and the band) really know what it is about, we can only speculate. I think this is an awesome, beautiful song and the Green Day parts of the video are good, the Twilight stuff is very distracting to me.

I guess the song is about not just be another musician/band that comes and goes away. He wanted Green Day to be remembered. Relevant to the past Green Day career.

The Forgotten is a pretty good song, but the mixture of Twilight and Green Day in the same video leaves a bitter sweet taste in my mouth. :ermm:

It's such a great song!

Sounds a lot like Restless Heart Syndrome, one of my favorites from 21stCB.

This has nothing to do with Green Day. I just wanted to say I love your avatar! It made me laugh so hard!

It is a goodbye song, that's why it fits at the very end of the trilogy. But this has nothing to do with the current or future state of the band, I think.

So I'm just watching the video and I'm fucking laughing my ass off at that horrendous green screen scene with Kristen Stewart running and looking at the web and shit. Hahahaha oh my god. They thought that looked good? Isn't this a big budget movie too? It looks like absolute shit.

The Forgotten is a good song but I don't like Twilight

I'm kind of getting tired over everyone all butt-hurt about the video revolving around Twilight.

So you don't like the movies/books/whatever, who cares? I creeped on a Twilight fansite, and this video brought them to tears. They love it. Shouldn't that count for something? Our favorite band is bringing something memorable to a fanbase. Who cares if it's Twilight?

This is an amazing way for Green Day to gain new popularity. I want people to love my favorite band. I want new people to join our fandom. I want Green Day to be widely appreciated. What in the Hell is wrong with that?

This song is going to be huge.

who cares if you like twilight or don't like twilight! the song and movie have nothing to do with each other really! i'm pretty sure the song is not even on the movie, just in the soundtrack and at the end of the day, it doesn't affect anything.

Am I the only one who didn't feel all that sad watching the video? It looked cheap, had twilight in it, and awkwardly mixed in studio footage that I feel didn't suit the song very well

I just kinda blocked out the Twilight parts in my head xD And it wasn't like the Green Day parts were amazing or anything..just studio/performance stuff :P But then again, it's not about the actual video, but the song :P

ok, apparently you know something I don't. Care to tell this story? :P

I listened to the forgotten and I honestly started crying because I started wondering if this was Green Day's last song, but then I thought to myself that that was a very stupid idea and I should slap myself. Because I believe Green Day are still going strong.

A lot of peoople hate it, but I actually really like it. It's rare that we get to properly hear that lovely voice of his in all its glory

What about the X's on the eyes?
