I think I figured out why I don't understand the main line of the song  I feel like it should be "Where in the world ARE the forgotten?" not IS the forgotten. Because if it was "are" I would picture a world of lost souls, but when it's "is" I'm like ... huh. Especially followed by "they're lost inside your memory"... so I guess it's not referring to forgotten people but forgotten thoughts or feelings...

Syntax :P

I think he is referring to the forgotten as a group, which would make it singular even tho he's talking about more than one person. Does that make sense or am I too late answering this? :)

So, the song itself is just so amazing. It's one of those songs that gets right into your heart and soul from the first notes. It’s beautiful. Love the lyrics, the violin, the PIANO  Gave me instant goosebumps. I love a lot of Green Day's songs, but this one is gonna be at the top of my list.

As for the video - Right off the bat, I love the old film aspect to it, how the film reels roll and make that old-time sound. Also love the imperfections of the ‘film’ – just gives it such a feel of reflecting on the past. Like they are looking back at old home movies or whatever. I actually like how the Twilight scenes are intertwined with the guys – there is a lot more shots of the band than I thought there would be, and I think they mixed it up nicely. It all just gives you a feeling of looking back. Melancholy is a good word to describe it.

Yes, that makes sense. Although now I'm just thinking of The Forgotten as a band that Billie regrets broke up

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

this. I finally listened to it. Most definitely my favourite GD ballad. The guitar solo is beautiful.

Video was like being stabbed in the face, song was like my ears were having an orgasm.

I think it's a beautiful song and I really liked the video.

The song is just beautiful. And the video, surprisingly, was better than I thought it would be. Props to Tom Kitt and Rob Cavallo for the magnificent strings on the track. And the way Billie sings "arms of love" at the end gave me chills.

Eyespasms and eargasms, yo.

The song (and maybe parts of the video sans-GD's images, I can't recall) are also being used in commercials for the movie. So, that will help its exposure. It's clear this is going to be the big theme for the movie.

I can see why people are thinking GD wrote the song for Twilight - other bands' music (Metric, in particular) had songs specially written for the film, and since Tre isn't out yet, they don't know the tracklist unless they're big GD fans. So, eh, while it makes me roll my eyes, I get it.

I'll say it...the song itself makes it feel like the band is trying to say goodbye. I know no wants to hear that but it is my opinion and that's how I feel about the song. The band is looking back at the past 23 years and saying "Shit, where'd the time go so fast???". I don't know how else to say it. Honestly this whole trilogy has made me feel like that. Sure other bands have released trilogy albums before and have still gone on but...this is Green Day. They aren't breaking up...maybe they're just planning a long-er hiatus. Which isn't bad, sometimes bands need that.

Ok....bring on the hate. Who's gonna call me an asshole first? Who's gonna say my opinion is stupid?

I'm going to do the opposite. I'm gonna agree with you and say that your opinion/observation is plausible. Because it is.

I get that vibe also from the song. It makes me teary eyed and sad of Green Day going on hiatus or breaking up.

Thank You! May the force be with you!

Yeah, its like what else can there be for Green Day after 3 whole albums??? They would need a break. A longggg break. I think maybe they'll do what the Foo Fighters are doing.

people just dont understand the difference between twilight using a green day song and green day writing a song for the twilight movie. its as simple as that. a lot of folks claim the later, its not true

Completely agree, its the last song on tre, just happens that Twilight chose it as a single. All promotion is positive....

The solo reminds me of John Mayer's Friends, Lovers, or Nothing (also the last track on that album). Except I think this song is leagues better.

Sounds like a mixture of all the slow songs on 21CB and AI.

Nah part of the melody is almost identical to some other song, I just can't place it! Think it's something quite old though.

You might be right, but actually I don't think you can assume something like this based on just one song and a couple impressions the albums leave. It's like those people who go to a museum, look at a painting and start talking about the intentions the painter had when painting it although they have no idea.

One part of solo is Celine Dion's Titanic song .. :D

listening to The Forgotten, am i seriously still the only one who thinks the trilogy is Green Day's last stuff?

Not at all. The song itself and the footage used in the video both have that nostalgic, melancholic feel and sound you'd expect from a band about to call it a day. It's quite a lovely piece of music though.

OK, I didn't want to be the one to say it but I definitely thought of the "My Heart Will Go On" music, it's EXACTLY the same for that one part

I cried when I saw the video for the first time today on tv  Such a wonderful song

The combination of the boys' footage and Twilight is quite meh, but all I care is the song, so beautiful to listen...

I gave in and listened to this, it's beautiful . I think it's my favourite Green Day ballad, they really went for it with the classical sounding violins and it feels like more of a "proper" slow ballad than any of their others to me, and probably the most emotional too. Just sounds gorgeous. The lyrics are beautiful too and I absolutely love the last line. What a fantastic way to end the Trilogy.

And the video didn't even annoy me at all which I'm very pleasantly surprised by! The clips of the band are really cool and the clips of Twilight don't bother me, and I like the effects and the way it's blended together. Good stuff.

That's always a possibility but I don't think there's really any point in worrying about it, if it happens it happens and if it doesn't it doesn't. Could just as easily just be a goodbye to the trilogy at the end of the story/journey of the three albums, that's the vibe I got from it.
