I wish I could see the video. Stupid region blocks!!!

I'm American and not used to this, but now that I'm in Spain I feel everyone's pain. This sucks. Whoever thought up region blocks is evil :angry

I do love it (and the unexpected guitar solo). It's really pretty. I think the last verse could've been cut since it just repeats the previous one, but it's not as bad as Oh Love in that regard  And if/when this gets radio play, that'll be cut and it'll be totally fine.

I'm confused about the lyrics "Like losing faith to our abandon" and "We share the scars of our abandon." There's something poetic about it the first time, but then I'm like... OK, you're using that phrase twice, so now I feel the need to actually understand what he means by that. That kind of weird grammatical use of the word "abandon" only makes sense to me in a "we threw caution to the winds with reckless abandon" kind of context, so that's my attempt at understand those lines, but does anyone else want to have a go at explaining it?

The song will be a great album/trilogy closer. Its so much better than "See the Light" from 21st Century Breakdown.

I didn't even watch the video. I just played it, then minimized the screen. Good for the eyes, and ears.

Just a guess, but maybe he's using abandon in two different ways. The first time could be like what you said, the "throw caution to the winds with reckless abandon" kind of meaning - so losing faith to their freedom and carefree-ness. The second time, however, might mean more like they've been hurt by that recklessness. Or it might mean they've been hurt by being abandoned, i.e. left behind.

I'm not really sure yet.

"Like losing faith to our abandon" to me seems really regretful. Like whatever Billie is singing about, or maybe it's nothing concrete, he regrets focusing on over being happy or just living life. The song seems to have a really "don't give up before it's too late" vibe and when he sings "we share the scars of our abandon" he's kind of saying that he (or the listener) isn't the only one with regrets and mistakes, but we all have them.

The thing that messes me up about the first one is "losing faith to our abandon", that doesn't really make much sense. The word "in" would be much better than "to" imo.

I was presently surprised by this song. Its nothing like I thought it was going to sound like and I love it. It sounds reflective and I want to go back through and really look at the lyrics and listen to it again. This is just my impression on a first listen. Right away it kind of blew me away and made me want to hug something

Is the band in the music video? If so, is it new footage filmed for the music video or stock footage?

It's one of those songs that I have to be in the mood to listen to, HOWEVER

I just...I can't get over the sheer rawness and beauty of this song. The entire time I listened, it just reminded me of a Queen ballad in its ability to be simple yet hauntingly emotional. You can hear Billie's soul he put into every lyric, and his voice flows so beautifully (as does the bass, drums, and guitar) that it gave me nonstop chills. You definetly get the feeling that, Uno was the lead up, Dos was the way out of hand party, and now here you are on Tre, looking back and realizing that maybe you got too out of hand. You're here by yourself, with your thoughts, and you just want someone to talk to.

Something interesting I noticed too, this ballad sounds VASTLY different from the ballads on 21stCB, but I can't put my finger on why. If there's anything the trilogy made us realize is just how adaptive Green Day are to all music styles. And, for the most part, they can make them all work.
