Shock horror, some teens want to be "anti-conformist" so they end up conforming to something else. There are some talented artists in even the highest selling pop just now (Gaga, Adele, Florence, Calvin Harris, Coldplay etc) and some who have talented people giving them great songs (Rihanna, at least up until the terrible one she has out just now) But he's not one of them, his songs are dull, formulaic and have been done a million times. Green day are not "as pop as they come". I would give that title to one of the many manufactured pretty boys or girls that are featured so heavily on the airwaves. Twilight soundtracks always manage to do well, so it should be good publicity. I'm aware that some people do have and express genre-bias, but unless someone makes an obviously biased statement, you shouldn't assume that is the reason for someone's dislike of a particular artist. Green Day are a popular band and they do have pop elements to their sound and promotion, but that doesn't mean that everyone who likes Green Day should also like every single pop artist on the radio, nor should they have to like every rock artist or punk artist or alternative or whatever. I know from experience cali's office very rarely work with the NY office unless they have to. I sometimes feel the same way about green day. They could definitely do a lot more experimental interesting work than they currently do and mars is even more limited.
