21 guns Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 The judges daughter. I can't even play the guitar but when I hear that solo... man... I feel like I can.
Mr. Shluffy Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Its not as flashy as the others, but I always loved the solo in The One I Want
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Worry Rock or American Eulogy.
Fuzz Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 We don't want this topic just to be a list of song titles, that's not very interesting. Please add on to your thoughts about the best guitar solo instead of just the song title. Maybe explain why you like that certain one more than another, or expand the topic a bit to include your thoughts about Green Day's decision to add more solos in the trilogy.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Worry Rock or American Eulogy. Both are "solos" that are actually just nice lead breaks. American Eulogy in particular after "fucking lies" has a brilliant little melody that takes the song in a different direction which I think all great solos should. The Worry Rock one is just the vocal melody for most of it but it's unusual for a lead break since it's played on the lower strings, which gives it a more acoustic sound which suits the rest of the song. I dunno how much of a factor it is but both solos come after really good "departing lines". "And I'll guarantee we'll have the road" and "Deny the allegation as it's written...fucking lies". As for the solos on the new album, they're all quite similar and nearly all of them contain the same two licks he used on the first two albums. I suppose it's good for the live show that they have new songs with solos but none of them are really anything to write home about IMO. The best on the new album is probably Let Yourself Go, it has the classic "chord progression as solo" that they've always done well, and then a neat little transition into the aforementioned Billie-Joe lick combination.
porksoda Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I like the Judge's Daughter solo because it's just like a burst of raw energy. "I think I'm gonna pop..." and then the solo, it just fits the song perfectly. It's also technically impressive. I like the Troublemaker solo because it starts out simple and then goes into this catchy Weezerish 80's solo. Makes me want to play my guitar.
Sleeper Agent. Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Star Spangled Banner by Jimi Hendrix... It says best guitar solo, but doesn't relate to to Green Day, except it's on a Green Day forum
StarKiller Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 How can this not be Stairway to Heaven? Related to Green Day, the first solo that came to my mind was actually Oh Love's. It starts with this a pretty basic and expectable figure but then there this little retro-lick which comes totally unexpected and gives the solo a totally different vibe. That really grabbed my attention on first listen and I still think it's really good.
Asa. Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Either Troublemaker or Coming Clean. Coming Clean has a pretty sweet rhythm to it.
Tooooooooooooom Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Let Yourself Go is pretty awesome and old-school
Yellowcard Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Actually, Stray Heart. I love that kind of solos, When the music just goes on. Solo doesn't have to be complicated to be good
StuckWithInsomnia Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I can't remember a whole lot from 1,039, but I always admired to solo to Hitchin A Ride, I just love that bit in the middle that goes "wew new new wew new new new new wew new new new wew new wew new wew new new new wew new new new neeeeeeewww" if i know what I mean.
CocaColaX Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 New songs wise, definitely Troublemaker. I don't really love the song as a whole but the solo is fucking great. Troublemaker. I'm loving that song, with all the clapping going on, then when it gets to the solo, its just WOW!
Iminyourcoffeemaker Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Rusty James is just a follow-the-melody solo, nothing particularly interesting about it. Troublemaker, while different, is just a bit boring. The version at Reading is one of the most epic solos I've ever heard from any band, never mind Green Day. Please tell me you are joking. I just looked that up. This had to have been a joke.
Guest Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Please tell me you are joking. I just looked that up. This had to have been a joke. I never joke about Stay The Night's solo.
StarKiller Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Stairway to Heaven. /thread You sir, are a very wise and experienced man.
King Wata Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The Judge's Daughter is the best guitar solo because Billie still plays it today. And it's just one of those guitar solos that has mix of everything including hammer-ons and bends in a such a combination that it's goosebump-triggering!
